* CanonWelding: The narrator connects certain events in the classic series to the Time War.
** The Daleks' use of a time machine to pursue the First Doctor and his companions is taken as the "first skirmish" of the Time War.
** It is suggested that the Daleks' creation of an AlternateTimeline in which they conquered Earth in "Day of the Daleks" caught the attention of the Time Lords, and may have even been what led them to "Genesis of the Daleks".
** At the end of the "Frontier in Space", the Third Doctor calls the Time Lords for assistance, and the answer by diverting the TARDIS to planet Spiridon for "Planet of the Daleks". This is recorded as the first instance of the Time Lords acting against the Daleks.
** In "Genesis of the Daleks", the Time Lords, forseeing a time when the Daleks will have destroyed all other life, send the Fourth Doctor on a mission to avert their creation, which could be considered the start of the Time War.

* ActorAllusion: The narrator is Nicholas Briggs, the voice of the Daleks.
* BookEnds: The recap begins with "Dalek", the Ninth Doctor's confrontation with what he believed to be the last ever Dalek, then goes through the classic series from the First Doctor's first visit to Skaro to the destruction of Skaro at the hands of the Seventh Doctor before going back to the Ninth Doctor with the Series 1 finale "Bad Wolf"/"The Parting of the Ways", at that point the last appearance of the Daleks.
* ClipShow: Uses audio from all the Daleks' televised appearances up to that point.
* JokerImmunity: Lampshaded. Dalek history ends with their seemingly final destruction in "The Parting of the Ways", but the narrator puts forward the question, can a species with access to TimeTravel ever truly go extinct? [[Recap/DoctorWhoS28E12ArmyOfGhosts Sure enough...]]
* RecapEpisode: Of the Daleks' history as presented in televised ''Doctor Who''.
