* HyperspaceOrSubspace: The S-1 forces' use of hyperspace technology is their main advantage over Earth's defenders. Their main base is hidden in hyperspace and effectively beyond enemy reach, while fighters and mechs can strike without warning and evade attacks by entering hyperspace. Gattler and Aphrodia regularly plot to abduct or kill Earth's leading hyperspace researchers in order to maintain this advantage. Baldios being able to access hyperspace is one of its greatest assets.

It's definitely true in the series, too

* EarthAllAlong: [[spoiler: In the movie anyway. Turns out that Planet S-1 is in fact Earth from far in the future, polluted and damaged so badly that it's become almost unrecognizable. It turns out that the inhabitants of S1 are responsible for polluting the Earth in the first place thanks to a Stable Time Loop, one which our heroes are unable to stop. Hell, they practically only learn about it after the fact, and by then, there's absolutely nothing they can do about it. There's a reason this show has a reputation for being ridiculously depressing...]]

* FutureFoodIsArtificial: After an S-1 chemical attack devastates Earth's agricultural lands, Dr. Quinstein works to create an artificial food source before the remaining stockpiles run out. No mention is ever made of a counter-agent to the chemicals, so Earth likely spends the rest of the series on artificial food.

* OmnidisciplinaryScientist: Dr. Quinstein's specialty is usually stated to be hyperspace physics, but she's also capable of integrating human and alien technology into a single giant robot, developing an artificial food source, and whatever else the plot requires.

* RewardedAsATraitorDeserves: Gattler decides to have [[spoiler: Marin]] executed after he seemingly betrayed the location of the Blue Fixer base, stating that he was disappointed in his lack of conviction.

A distant planet called S-1 is polluted. Our hero, Marin, is a boy who escaped from S-1's crazed military dictator Zeo Gattler. Unfortunately, before he can do anything about the people trying to overthrow the evironmentalists' hard work at restoration, he is sucked into a time warp and ends up near Earth in 2100. There, he uses his ship to form part of the mighty mecha, Baldios, and joins the rebel military team called the Blue Fixers.

* AggressiveNegotiations: "The False Peace Conference" features a peace conference where Gattler demands [[spoiler: via self-destructing robotic double]] the extermination of all Earthlings in exchange for ceasing hostilities and orders an immediate attack on the attending dignitaries. It's the largest battle of the war to date, and even Blue Fixer's intervention with Baldios and a portable bunker only saves part of the Earth delegation

* RewardedAsATraitorDeserves: Just showing sympathy to the enemy will get you brutally murdered by Aphrodia. Gattler also decides to have [[spoiler: Marin]] executed after he seemingly betrayed the location of the Blue Fixer base, stating that he was disappointed in his lack of conviction.

** Episode 31 gets a bit heavy-handed with a flashback where Dr. Raygun tells his some that the name S-1 is shorthand for "First planet orbiting Soll." The episode ends with [[spoiler: Mercury and Venus getting destroyed by a phlebotinum-induced black hole, leaving Earth as the closest planet to Sol.]] The Narrator even declares this a similarity whose significance no one yet grasps.

* TimeTravel: Serves as the main plot twist in the last two episodes and the movie. Both Marin and the S-1 hyperspace fortress pass through a NegativeSpaceWedgie en route to Earth. [[spoiler: This actually threw them back in time and their actions at the end of the series alter Earth and the Solar System into a mirror image of S-1.]]

* DangerousDeserter: Episodes 20 and 21 center on a gang of deserters from the Earth and S-1 armies who stumble upon a long-lost ICBM launch site. They declare themselves the Third Empire and proceed to hold the Earth to ransom with their stash of H-bombs. Both armies send in kill teams that wind up slaughtering each other, leaving Marin and Aprodia to take on the deserters by themselves.
