* BloodierAndGorier: The war sequences are even more brutal and graphic than that of ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam''. Both humans and Buff Clan soldiers drop like flies that even ''civilians'' are not safe from active warzones.

* CoolShip: The Solo Ship which also has its own miniature garden.
* CosmicHorrorStory: [[spoiler: The Ide is a god of infinite power who either wants all sapient life in the universe dead from the start for their repeated acts of violence and war or is conducting a final HumanityOnTrial test before it takes this last step. It deliberately manipulates the emotions of the crew of the Solo Ship to accomplish its desires, which the crew becomes increasingly aware of over the show. Many, like Sheryl, are even broken by the fact they have no control over what is happening or even their own minds anymore. This finally comes to a head in the movie, where the Ide forces a DespairEventHorizon so it can get the crew to wish for everything to be "fixed". And once Ideon is [[AwakeningTheSleepingGiant invoked]] by those desires, it uses its YourMindMakesItReal powers to do just that... by wiping out humanity and restarting the universe.]]

* CreatorCameo: Mr. Tomino is briefly seen as a crew member of the Solo Ship in ''Be Invoked''. This most likely means even ''Tomino'' won't escape death in a Tomino story.

** [[spoiler: In the TV series, Kitty was shot by Daram while trying to protect one of the orphans. In the movie, she died in an explosion and Cosmo sees her head flying off.]]

* DisownedSibling: Harulu is disappointed with the actions of her sister, Karala, who sided with the humans after refusing to hand over Ideon to them. She considers her a lost cause and chooses to forsake her. [[spoiler: Upon learning that Karala got pregnant with a human, Harulu is disgusted by this and kills her and her unborn son not only out of jealousy because Karala gets to be with the man she loved but also to salvage her family's reputation and keep the bloodlines pure]].
* DoomMagnet: The Earth colonies and the rest of Earthlings regard the Solo Ship as a threat because they're always followed by the Buff Clan which brought destruction and death and they carry the most powerful weapon that could destroy the universe. It's expected that they blame the crew for the mess they're in and they wouldn't hesitate to attack them. [[spoiler:Then, it turns out the Solo Ship is directly responsible for the meteors that were sent to both Earth and Buff.]]
* DownerEnding: [[spoiler: Everyone dies. Doba Ajiba's final trump card leads to the death of the entire human race and the Buff Clan, including everyone in the Solo Ship, with Ideon and the ''Gando Rowa'' pulling a MutualKill and then Ideon causing a massive explosion that wipes out the solar system. The show ends on the idea this may be an EternalRecurrence, and the audience is left to hope the next form of sentient life can overcome the failings the previous version of humanity could not.]]

* DiesDifferentlyInAdaptation: [[spoiler: In the TV series, Kitty was shot by Daram while trying to protect one of the orphans. In the movie, she died in an explosion and Cosmo sees her head flying off.]]

** One episode of the series is named "Violent Battle on the Film/PlanetOfTheApes'', and its closing shot features an alien ape-man holding a bone and tapping it on the ground inquisitively.

* AscendedFanboy: Harulu eventually joined Solo Ship's crew due to her fascination for the Ide as part of her long-time beliefs in the titular robot's legends. Several episodes later, [[spoiler: Gije, becoming obsessed with the Ideon, eventually defects to the Solo Ship so that he can witness "a manifestation of the Ide" and ends up becoming one of its pilots.]]

** You got Bes and Karala where their first meeting is the former mistaking the latter as one of the newly arrived colonists and then, asks her for a date. After he learns who she really is, he does his job as a soldier where he interrogates her about Ideon and the Buff clan despite Cosmo, Kasha, and Sheryl warning him not to fully trust her. Regardless of the stress and mistrust within the Solo Ship crew, Bes welcomes Karala in open arms and accepts her for who she is. Eventually, they fall in love with each other, [[spoiler:and their love results in their unborn child, Messiah.]]

* MalignedMixedMarriage: Though they're not married, Bes and Karala's relationship is seen like this in the eyes of Doba and Harulu. They are both disgusted that not only Karala's actions led to a never-ending war but her getting into a relationship with a man who is on the opposing side and having a child on the way is considered treasonous for them. [[spoiler:Doba even approves Harulu's murder of Karala because this is the way to salvage their reputation and keep the bloodlines pure. Unfortunately, their attitude slowly leads to Ide's invocation which is something Doba realizes too late.]]
* ManlyTears: Some of the male characters [[{{Pun}} invoked]] this such as Gije who feels regret for actions as he defects to the Solo Ship, Cosmo who watches the people he cared for died, and in ''Be Invoked'', Bes [[spoiler:who learns about Karala's death.]]
* MeaningfulName: The crew of the Solo Ship is on their own against the Buff Clan, [[spoiler:as the rest of humanity rejects them at best and actively wants them dead at worst.]]
* MechanicalAbomination: In an otherwise RealRobotGenre universe where ships and robots are just advanced military hardware, the Solo Ship and Ideon are an EmpathicWeapon capable of infinite power [[spoiler:and are in fact a living, sentient mechanical god, filled with the souls of an entire civilization that can bend those around it to its will... and has come to ''hate'' mankind for their destructive, war-like nature, to the point it wants them all dead. And in the end, [[EverybodyDiesEnding it gets exactly what it wants]].]]
