The Galarian Moltres mention is now outdated, and I decided the wild Pokemon depiction was enough for an expansion. The villain elaboration is now all one point which I think is better formatting.

* DarkerAndEdgier: {{Downplayed}}. The series still maintains a relatively lighthearted tone like it did during Ash's tenure, but it's overarching story places a greater emphasis on how dangerous the villains and the wild Pokémon can be. The series still maintains a relatively lighthearted tone like it did during Ash's tenure, but it's overarching story places it depicts a greater emphasis on how dangerous more hostile and uncaring world that the villains and characters live in as opposed to the wild Pokémon can be. In particular, SugarBowl that previous series depicted it as.
** The latter stretch of the Ash saga usually depicted conflict as coming from a misunderstanding with no sides actually being evil, however,
The Explorers are traditional villians whose motives stem from greed and other unholy motives. ** The two immediate predecessors, ''Anime/PokemonTheSeriesSunAndMoon'' and ''Anime/PokemonJourneysTheSeries'' depicted wild Pokemon as very friendly and helpful, and the protagonists could always quickly team up with them if needed. ''Horizons'' depicts them as more aloof and often hostile, and the characters often have to fight or outright ''run away'' from them, a far cry from before. [[spoiler: Notably, at one point, the series depicts a band of Pokemon that act as pirates who steal from ships, and while the characters make peace with them, the series never actually tries to justify them, with AboveGoodAndEvil being the most a character offers as possible vindication.

** Despite being a CallBack to Ash's Pikachu's Thunderbolt, Sprigatito's gigantic Leafage is still a bunch of leaves. It's practically useless against a Fire-Type like Ceruledge.
** Because she spent ages holed up in her room without getting any exercise, Dot has trouble keeping up with Liko and Roy and very quickly tires out.
*** Related to this, while Dot is very knowledgeable about Pokémon and Pokémon battles, she has absolutely no experience in them and only recently caught Quaxly, so she initially struggles against Spinel's Pokémon before Liko and Roy arrive.
