** ''Kirara'' #45: Residents of Mari Land give each other octopi (sometimes living!) instead of chocolate for Valentine's day. Kirara and Kuromi get attacked the legendary Heart Octopus. And when My Melody gives her biggest octopus to Bakujuuichirou, a star fragment falls on her mom's head and she forces them into an idol contest.

** In the finale of ''Kuru Kuru Shuffle'', she asks the audience to help recite her tongue twister. When no cards flip, she offers to do it again, slower. An in-universe audience chants along with her.

* BigBad: The Spirit of the Dark Power comes back in every season intent on removing all dreams and destroying Mari Land.

* BreakThemByTalking: My Melody's mom is very good at this. In episode one of ''Shuffle'', she breaks Kuromi's magic by talking down Uta's entire class for their faults.

** One episode of ''Kirara'' had a Star Fragment appear alongside the star in the show's logo. Bakujuuichirou noticed this and rewinds the show to the start to get it.

* {{Kawaiiko}}: Mana's cousin Harumi is in every way her antithesis. Aunt Kyoko wishes Mana could be as cute as her.

* OriginStory: The fourth series Kirara★ is set before the events of the other three series. It delves more into Kuromi's hatred to My Melody and the origins of the Spirit of the Dark Power.

* BodyHorror: That time Kirara reshaped Sorara's beak into a musical whistle

** Kakizaki also despises Keiichi for being better in every way, even after he transferred schools and trained in the mountains, he still can't win.

** Kuromi attacks the New Year's festival at the castle with a Kuromi Robo. Everyone wishes for the wishing star itself to destroy it

* ImpactSilhouette: [[spoiler:Following his EvilCostumeSwitch,]] Jun seems to forget what doors and walls are.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Kakeru to Uta multiple times, and Mana to My Melody.
* JidaiGeki: ''Sukkiri'' #40-41 takes place in feudal Japan. Some characters' names were changed to fit, such as O-Uta, [[UsefulNotes/TokugawaIeyasu Tokugawa Keiichi]], and [[UsefulNotes/YagyuJubei Junbee]].

* ShipperOnDeck: Basically every friend of Uta and Kakeru wants to ship them, including Jun Hiiragi, who has the hots for Uta himself.

** When Baku goes on TheQuest to learn how to undo the Baku Punishment, the God of Eggplants dresses his team up ''Literature/JourneyToTheWest'' style: Baku as Bajie/Pig, Uta as Monk Sanzang, My Melo as [[MonkeyKingLite Wukong/Monkey King]] (including getting some of his powers), Kuromi as Wujing/Sandy, and Jun as the horse.

** Kikuchi quotes various in-universe soap operas as pick-up lines while looking for a girlfriend. He's an aspiring actor-to-be.
** Berry and Cherry are fans of an action cartoon called ''Usamimi Kamen GO GO''. [[spoiler: If the King and Queen have seen it too, it would explain where they got the "Bunny-ears punishment" from.]]

* FracturedFairyTale: The school play, starring Uta as {{Literature/Cinderella}}, My Melody as Literature/LittleRedRidingHood, and Mana as the queen from ''[[Literature/SnowWhiteAndTheSevenDwarves Snow White]]''. Then Kuromi and Baku interfere and fracture it even more.

** Mr. Eidaibashi wished for "him" to return to his youth. Kuromi granted the wish before realizing he was referring to Keiichi, who has learned how to thwart magic. He himself doesn't age down, but at least half of the other people in Yumegaoka do.

* TheJeeves: The twin brother valets of the Hiiragi household.

* SempaiKohai: Hiiragi is the senpai to Uta and Miki. Uta learned violin hoping he'd notice her someday, and it's through her that My Melo only calls him "Senpai-san." He's also Kanade's senpai, but she stopped crushing on him long ago.

* EarWings: Baku can extend his ears and use them to fly.

* TransformationTrinket: The Star Pendants in ''Kirara'' allow Kirara to change into whatever she needs to be. My Melody [[InformedAbility also changes.]]

* TrappedInTVLand: Early in ''Sukkiri'', a kid's gaming shoes (The console was based off the Wii) become Huff-Huffs and drag him into his soccer game, and he starts pulling other people into the game.

** The Chibi-Melos! Even My Melody herself couldn't resist them.

** Jun rarely goes a scene without saying something in English, sometimes then repeating himself in Japanese.

** After losing too many dates, Kanede wishes on Kuromi for a nice man. She turns every guy in the area from Kakeru's age up, plus Flat, Baku, and Mana(!), into hunks and takes half of them for herself.

* MonsterOfTheWeek: Kuromi's Melody Key turns people into these.

Instead of Kuromi using nightmare magic on other people, people become possessed by Black Notes and become "Huff-Huffs", and by refreshing them or making them madder, those notes become jewels for My Melo's/Kuromi's tiaras.

* ExpressiveShirt: The skull on Kuromi's hat changes expression.

** ''Kirara'' is a bit different. Prince Sorara needs to collect the Wishing Star fragments so he can regain his full power. Then he and Kirara can each go home.

* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Baku idolizes "Charapova-chan", who's clearly based on tennis star Maria Sharapova.

** Kuromi tries to hold all of her friends and family at bay with nightmare magic so no one could attend her party. Kakeru and My Melody have to stop her.

** During ''Kirara'', the king sends all of Mari Land on a goose chase when he sees a Tsuchinoko in the courtyard. Bakujuuichirou bonds with him and returns him to his {{Kaiju}}-sized dad.

* TransformationTrinket: The Heart and Star Pendants in ''Kirara'' allow Kirara to change into whatever she needs to be. My Melody also "changes", but not in any noticeable way.

* MythologyGag: My Melody as Literature/LittleRedRidingHood in the school play and in a flashback. In 1989 Creator/{{Sanrio}} released ''My Melody no Akazukin'' which was a straight-up adaptation of said tale.

** Kuromi's birthday is on Halloween, so she assumed Keiichi went to the costume party instead. [[spoiler: He was forced to when My Melody summoned Bunny-Ears Mask.]] [[spoiler:Subverted afterwards when he gives Kuromi her birthday party and dances with her afterwards.]]

* OnePersonBirthdayParty: Kuromi once fell victim to this because My Melo had a fever on that day, and everyone went to see her.

* NobodyPoops: They certainly do.

* NeverBareheaded: My Melody is never seen without wearing her pink hood. Even one episode had her putting on another pare of pink hoods when she is waking up. But only her hands and are visible when putting it on.

** In ''Kirara'', a piece of the wishing star crashed on the art museum and brought all the exhibits to life.

** Nearly {{Deconstructed|Trope}} in ''Sukkiri'', Kuromi and Baku ask the audience (again, in-and-out-of-universe) to share their loser auras with them for a CombinedEnergyAttack. [[spoiler:Not only does the attack fail, but the negative feelings that come from the audience almost create ''another'' Dark Power.]] In the final episode, they have to apologize and ask for more help from the audience to fix this.

* CombinedEnergyAttack: A send-up to ''Anime/DragonBallZ'', in the final battle of ''Sukkiri'', all the show's losers, plus the audience, pool their loser auras into one "Make-inu Dama" the size of Mari Land. [[spoiler: It does nothing; the king drops it on himself.]]
