* AmbiguouslyBrown: Shakti, Marbet and the Massarik brothers.

* WellIntentionedExtremist: The Zanscare Empire believes the Solar System will be a better place under the rule of their God-Queen. It's also subverted as said God-Queen is really nothing more than a powerless figurehead for the EvilChancellor and his political party from Jupiter to exploit for their revenge on the Earth.

* BloodierAndGorier: Notorious for it, especially for a UC series (and remained the bloodiest show in the entire franchise until ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED Gundam SEED]]'', ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Gundam 00]]'' and ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamIronBloodedOrphans Iron-Blooded Orphans]]'' came along).

* BloodierAndGorier: Notorious for it, especially for a UC series (though it later got beaten out by ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamIronBloodedOrphans'' for the title of bloodiest show in the franchise).

* EasyLogistics: Interestingly, this is the greatest advance of this era; The Zanscare's Beam Rotor's as well as the League Militaire's Minosvky drive systems allowed them to fly without refueling (and thus operate independently) since propulsion is powered directly by nuclear reactors, [[GameBreaker giving the users a major tactical advantage.]] That said, nobody ever appears to run out of Hangers and/or Boots for their CombiningMecha, no matter how often they're used as decoys.

* AlasPoorVillain: Several characters in the Zanscare side get these. Good examples are [[spoiler: the kind-hearted pilot that Uso killed in battle and deeply regretted it]], [[spoiler: the StarCrossedLovers Karinga and Kisharl who end up ''killing each other'']], and [[spoiler: the BattleCouple of [[BikerBabe Renda]] and [[BadassBiker Duker]]... who mix this with awesome, as [[TogetherInDeath their souls are seen riding together on a Harley towards the afterlife]].]] Even [[spoiler: Chronicle and Katejina, despite all that they've done, receive sorrowful ends.]]

* BadassBiker: Duke. His girlfriend and partner Renda is a BikerBabe.

* EverythingsBetterWithSpinning: Once on screen the Tyre-type mobile suits (mobile suits in... you guessed right, tires) are a damn pain in the ass for a while.

* KillEmAll: Made during Tomino's depression years (80's-mid 90's). We all know what happens.

* AristocratsAreEvil: The Zanscare heads are mostly just bad bad people.

* BattleCouple: Duke and Renda

* CrapsackWorld: The absolute low point of the Universal Century... which is saying something with the Earth Federation becoming a shell of its former self and most nation-states, cities and global cooperation being non-existent due to years of constant wars.
* DarkActionGirl: Fuala, Lupe, [[spoiler:Katejina]], Renda.

* EvilChancellor: Fonse Kagatie is the source of all evil in Zanscare.

* LaResistance: The League Militaire is meant to be the good guys... it doesn't quite work out that way.

* ObligatoryWarCrimeScene: There are times when it seems that BESPA doesn't know how to '''not''' commit a war crime when the opportunity to commit one comes up. The most notable being when a ceasefire is declared two-thirds of the war through the series. In the five episodes between the ceasefire being declared and the war officially restarting, the number of episodes in which BESPA ''doesn't'' break the truce is zero.

* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler:Katejina]] sends in the [[FanNickname Bikini Babe Assault Team]] to attack Uso, who goes into one before he kills the entire team. [[spoiler:Katejina]] needed to be insane to think such an idiotic excuse for a plan could work...

* EyeCatch: The mid-episode intermissions feature Uso's Haro gradually getting larger and larger over the series... two frames at a time.

* PunnyName: As evidenced by their logo, "BESPA" is a play off of "Vespa" (Wasp) thanks to "B" and "V" being interchangeable in Japanese.

* VideoGame/GundamVsSeries: ''Gundam vs. Gundam'' has Uso in the V and V2 Gundams. ''Next'' adds [[spoiler:Katejina]] in the Gedlav and Fuala in the Zanneck as a boss. ''Extreme Vs.'' drops the Victory and Gedlav in favor of Junko's Gun-EZ, but [[spoiler:Katejina]] returns with the Gottrlatan as {{DLC}}. ''Full Boost'' brings back the Victory. On top of all this, machines like the Gunblaster, Javelin, and V-Hexa show up as CPU-only opponents in the games' mission modes (and as of ''Full Boost'' as regular opponents).
