* AdaptationDyeJob: The Doublas M2 has a different colour scheme and head which are rounder and more human-like with a SlasherSmile compared to the original which featured a dragon-like head.
* AdaptationalWimp: In the original Mazinger manga, Venus was a huge step up from Aphrodite A, allowing Sayaka to destroy several mechanical beasts and helping Kouji fight Gordon Hell. In Mazinkaiser it being more powerful is nothing more than an InformedAttribute, being defeated just as often as her old mecha.

to:

* AdaptationalBackstoryChange: Tetsuya is a pilot who was recruited for his reputation and skills rather than being an orphan raised for the sole purpose of piloting Great Mazinger. Great Mazinger itself was built by the Photon Power Laboratories using blueprints left behind by Juzo Kabuto rather than being made from scratch by Kenzo Kabuto. [[spoiler:True Great Mazinger was designed and built completely by Juzo rather than Kenzo too]].
* AdaptationalBadass: Compared to the Super Robot Wars original Mazinkaiser, only Koji is able to pilot it and it has the Freezing/Reito Beam and Final Kaiser Blade ability which the other one does not have. The OVA Mazinkaiser appears to not have the weakness the Super Robot Wars Mazinkaiser had in ''Alpha 2'' where hitting it on the back of the Scrander can cause it to cease all functions temporarily.
* AdaptationDyeJob: The Doublas M2 has a different colour scheme and head which are rounder and more human-like with a SlasherSmile compared to the original which featured a dragon-like head. \n Mazinkaiser and Great Mazinger has black forearms, shins and feet rather than the dark blue coloration their first incarnations had. [[spoiler:Averted for the True Great Mazinger which has the same coloration as the original]].
* AdaptationNameChange: OVA Mazinkaiser's attacks are different from the ''Super Robot Wars'' version which remain consistent whenever the OVA version is used rather than the Super Robot Wars original version which is considered a different entity entirely.
** Jet Boomerang is now called the Scrander Boomerang and has a different execution of attack entirely.
** Mazinkaiser's swords, Shoulder Slicer is renamed to Kaiser Blade.
Mazinkaiser itself zigzags between this and AdaptationalBadass where the OVA version went out of control when Koji first piloted it compared to the ''Alpha'' version where it was a SuperPrototype that went out of control ''without a pilot inside'' and was capable of acting independently. It also lacks the Kaiser Nova but gets the Final Kaiser Blade in exchange.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Throughout the entire OVA, absolutely ''nothing'' that Dr. Hell throws at Mazinkaiser can hope to even scratch it due to it's impressive armor. So, in episode 7 final battle when Kouji summons the Kaiser Blade, it involves removing a small but crucial portion of chest armor....thus exposing it's internals and allowing Baron Ashura's attack to electrocute it, resulting in Kaiser's cockpit taking severe damage and temporarily crippling it.

The seven-episode OVA was followed up by the movie ''Mazinkaiser vs. [[Anime/GreatMazinger The Great General of Darkness]]'', a remake of the 1974 film ''Mazinger Z vs. The Great General of Darkness'', where the [[Anime/GreatMazinger Mycenae Empire]] invades while Kouji is vacationing in Paris, forcing him to fight his way back to Japan and take the Mazinkaiser into battle once more. Said movie does not share the continuity with the OVA, with it not even using the same version of the Mazinkaiser mecha, though ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars'' installments since ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsJudgment'' have used them together.

* LavaIsBoilingKoolAid: In one episode Mazinkaiser (with Kouji inside it) was tossed into the crater of Mount Fuji (paying homage to an episode of the original series). Kouji fainted due to the extreme heat and sheer pressure... and that was it. The characters pointed out not even Mazinkaiser could endure that for long and they had to get Kouji out of the magma RIGHT AWAY, though. The lava also seems less dangerous than it should be (it is too bright, too fluid and not viscous enough). However, given the kind of punishment Mazinkaiser shrugs off throughout the series, withstanding a lava bath seems almost trivial.
* LetsGetDangerous: Two twins Lorry and Roll are fanservicey, yeah. But when it's time to get serious, they show that they're more than just FanService: see episode 5, i.e.
** They also show their stuff in the movie, what with piloting a Fembot and all. Too bad that's where they die.
* MadeOfIndestructium: Mazinkaiser takes this concept and RUNS WITH IT. Nothing seems being capable to even scratch it. This video should show it convincingly: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiZwGqhTP5I&feature=related]]

''Mazinkaiser'' is a seven-episode SuperRobot {{OAV}} re-imagining of the ''Anime/MazingerZ'' story released in 2001. It tells the story of how [[TheHero Kouji Kabuto]] discovers and masters his grandfather Juzo Kabuto's final legacy, the most powerful of the Mazingers.
