''Gundam Build Fighters Try'' is the 2014 sequel to ''Anime/GundamBuildFighters'' , directed by Shinya Watada (''Anime/GundamBuildFighters'' eps 2, 8, 17, 23) and written by [[VisualNovel/PhantomOfInferno Yosuke]] [[Manga/HoneyAndClover Kuroda]] (''Anime/MobileSuitGundam00'').

** In the final episode's WhereAreTheyNow segment, Minato is shown to be back at the Gunpla Shingyo dojo [[spoiler: with Master Chinan, who was initially reported to have passed on before the first episode but shown here to be alive after all, watching him]]

* UpToEleven: The story's rendition of [[Memes/{{Gundam}} The]] [[FanNickname Meatbun]] [[ShipTease Chronicles]]. When the story isn't focused on Gunpla and battles, it almost entirely focuses on the ShipTease involving the Try Fighters and their potential love interests (up to six possible ships ''and counting'', which includes ''three'' girls linked to [[IdiotHero Sekai]] alone) This is justifiable, however, since the original Meatbun Chronicles were a major part of the first series' success, so it only makes sense to capitalize on it in the second.

** Episode 10's title is called [=GunColle=], not unlike the [[VideoGame/KantaiCollection browser game]] by Kadokawa. The difference is only one symbol in one of the katakanas.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Adou Saga twice resorts the the old anime cliche of [[PunchAWall slugging a wall the vent frustration]]. Once against a thick glass pane after being denied the chance to fight Meijin Kawaguchi, and once against the metal Semi-Final Randomizer out of irritation to get Yuuma and Minato to stop arguing, both times with the same hand. [[spoiler: This abuse of his hand, combined with his remote-controlled Fang drones caused him to develop fractures in it leading to him being taken to the hospital after the events of the final battle.]]

* IdiotBall: Team Angelfish, when they can't access the water in episode 7. Rather than blast through the ice with their FrickinLaserBeams to access the water, or fight on land (their Gunpla were all originally designed for amphibious landing operations), they promptly self-destruct upon Team Try's approach.

* SequelDifficultyDrop: An in-series example. The new generation Gunpla Battle systems have variable damage settings, allowing Gunpla models to suffer only light scuffing instead of complete destruction at lower levels.

Gunpla Battler Fumina Hoshino hopes to one day make it into the All-Japan Gunpla Battle Championships using her custom Gunpla, the "[[Anime/MobileSuitGundam0083StardustMemory Powered GM]] Cardigan''. Unfortunately, these Championships are 3 vs 3 team matches, and Fumina is the only member of her Gunpla club. Fumina's luck turns around, however, when she meets [[MysteriousStranger yet another mysterious red haired boy]], Sekai Kamiki, whose martial arts training makes him a natural at Gunpla piloting. With the addition of a model builder at her school named Yuuma Kousaka, Fumina at last has her team, and together the three set off to realize their various dreams ToBeAMaster.

* ConspicuousCGI: Just like in Anime/MobileSuitGundamAGE, Vagan Gear K is rendered in CGI. The only scene when it's not rendered in CG is when Gundam Portent sliced it.

* OriginalGeneration: The Winning Gundam is the only model not based on an existing mecha (apart from some elements of [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamZZ the ZZ Gundam]] and [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam0080WarInThePocket the NT-1]]) [[spoiler:The Star Winning Gundam throws that out, its ability to turn into a fully-proportioned Gundam comes from the Tekki Yusha Bakushinmaru SD Gundam, itself based on the Gundam ZZ.]]

** The Mamagguy's sacrifice to protect Petitegguy in the tenth episode resembles how Piccolo rescued Gohan from Nappa in ''Manga/DragonBallZ''.

* AllJustADream: The [[CrowningMomentOfFunny beginning]] of episode 8, where Minato imagines himself winning an award and getting a harem of Fumina and women from other Gundam shows. Then his alarm wakes him up.

** Then there's the first battle of the main tournament. MidSeasonUpgrade aside, Team Try Fighters has also ''vastly'' improved their teamwork, and [[CurbStompBattle near-effortlessly defeat a team]] [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome that made Top 8 in the previous year's tournament]].

* OriginalGeneration: The Winning Gundam is the only model not based on an existing mecha (apart from some elements of [[MobileSuitGundamZZ the ZZ Gundam]] and [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam0080WarInThePocket the NT-1]]) [[spoiler:The Star Winning Gundam throws that out, its ability to turn into a fully-proportioned Gundam comes from the Tekki Yusha Bakushinmaru SD Gundam, itself based on the Gundam ZZ.]]

** The tournament scene at the start of ''Island Wars'' shows a whole bunch of banners for just a split-second. They're [[ReferenceOverdosed chock-full of references]], ranging from straight-up team support (Gyanko and Yuuma apparently have sizable in-universe fan clubs) to [[MythologyGag in-jokes]] (the most visible of which reads "[[MobileSuitGundam00 You are Gundam too]]") to [[ShoutOut lyrics from other mecha shows' theme songs]] ("[[BlueCometSPTLayzner Lonely Way]]", "[[MetalArmorDragonar Dead Heat - I Love You]]").

* ConspicuousCGI: Just like in Anime/MobileSuitGundamAGE, Vagan Gear K is rendered in CGI. The only scene when it's not rendered in CG is when Gundam Portent sliced it.

** Shunsuke's Mega Shiki combines the Hyaku Shiki with the Mega Rider
** Yomi's Amethyst Victory Gundam is a normal Victory Gundam armed with the Sword Impulse's Silhouette Frame.

** During the ''6 Years Later'' short, China is shown to have not only her Bearguy III, but also Aila's Command Gundam.
