* FromNobodyToNightmare: Frieza, funnily enough. Soon after Trunks killed him on Earth he took a massive drop on the threat scale (and his threat was nonexistent if one treats Fusion Reborn as canon). Now, though, he's on top form once more.

* NextTierPowerUp: Through some unknown means, Frieza has undergone a power up massive enough to take on Goku in his post-Battle of Gods years, and has a new transformation to boot.

* SuperMode: Frieza apparently has one of his own this time around. Surprisingly, if what's been said about the movie's development so far is to be trusted, this trope is ''[[AvertedTrope averted]]'' with Goku, who's stated to ''not'' go Super Saiyan over the course of the movie, since [[spoiler: he no longer needs the transformation since becoming a PhysicalGod [[Anime/DragonBallZBattleOfGods in the last movie]].]][[note]]That said, this report was later said to be a mistranslation, with the non-transformation edict only applying to one scene. Furthermore, the initial poster and video trailer for the movie which came out before its plot was revealed both featured Goku going Super Saiyan. Only time will tell whether or not Goku not transforming applies to the entire film.[[/note]]

** Or, the filler is canon and this film and its predecessor, which has gaping plot holes (such as Beerus driving the dinosaurs to extinction when they're still alive in the DBZ universe, or Goku being the one who killed Frieza when it was really Future Trunks) is [[CanonDiscontinuity non-canon]].

* ItsPersonal: The main reason Frieza attempts to get revenge on Goku and the others after under going TrainingFromHell instead of taking PragmaticVillainy Tagoma suggested of just returning to rule his empire. [[spoiler: It's so personal he [[ThrownOutTheAirLock threw Tagoma out of the air lock]] for even suggesting it.]]

* HardWorkHardlyWorks: Lampshaded and averted hard. Frieza assumed that being a natural-born prodigy made him stronger than anyone else, a notion shattered rather violently by his encounters with Goku and Future Trunks (who had to train in order to achieve Super Saiyan). Bearing this in mind, Frieza resolves to undergo training for the first time in his life so he can take his revenge.

Frieza was, as stated in an above trope, effectively ''chopped meat'' after Future Trunks put him down. Even though Sorbet and Tagoma had the means to restore him, even ''they'' said that it all depended on Frieza's vitality if it succeeded. He might be a remorseless demon of a tyrant, but you have to respect such a will to live that he'd endure in such a state.

** In the tie-in manga, when Frieza's minions tell him that Goku defeated Majin Buu, he gets a perfect idea of how strong Goku is now; apparently, King Cold told him "The two people in this universe whom you should never cross are the God of Destruction Beerus, and Majin Buu".
