Removed redundant part about the halfway point.

** The introductions for all of the other students are toned down to a few sentences, whereas in the game they received several short paragraphs. The pacing of the story moves much more quickly. How much more quickly? [[http://howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=11730 The game averages 25-36 hours of content]] to the anime's 5-6 hours, and it only speeds up following Sakura's death in Episode 9: in the game, this is marked as the halfway point.

In practice, though, the player is probably closer to two thirds of the way through the game at this point given that the fifth chapter and trial are rather short[[/note]]

** The anime in general is heavily truncated, which is an often-cited criticism. How truncated? The end of Sakura's trial is explicitly marked in the game as the halfway point. It happens in episode 9 in the anime.
*** Curiously, this ends up ''helping'' the anime's adaptation of Chapter 3. In the game, it is pretty easy to deduce that Celeste is the killer, due to a) the numerous amount of times you run into her before discovering the bodies, and b) her suspicious eagerness to pin the blame on Yasuhiro and refute alternate theories of the crime. The anime, however, zooms by the case quickly enough that both of these indicators are much less pronounced. Only her FreudianSlip remains as an indicator of her guilt.

** In the final class trial, only [[TheDitz Hagakure]] leaps to the conclusion that a class photo he was given featuring everyone except him means that this entire ordeal is a grand conspiracy against him that everyone (including all the people who died) was in on. Nobody else thinks that way, with Byakuya having outright guessed right away that it was what the Mastermind wanted them all to believe and thus not falling for it. In the game, however, everyone except for Makoto and Kyoko, ''including'' Byakuya, came to this same absurd conclusion until all of their photos were shared.

** Curiously enough, Junko even calls her sister "Ikusaba" at a few points.

* LettingTheAirOutOfTheBand: This happens in Episode 9, just before Monokuma reveals Sakura's real suicide note.

* MrFanservice: Kiyotaka is the go-to guy who'd go topless (especially when a sauna is involved) and shows off his well-built muscles on the chest. Possibly even a case of AdaptationExpansion since in the VN he's only shown wearing nothing but a ModestyTowel in a one-off CG, whereas in the anime he seems to like walking around like this once his Ishida persona takes over. And there's also Makoto, who's shown completely naked in a shower scene.

* AdaptationalNiceGuy: Leon gets a downplayed example, due to Celeste's FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse line being ommitted--when Leon tries to rationalize that Sayaka's murder was done in self-defense, the focus is placed more on his misfortune of being her chosen victim than anything, to the point that he hysterically points out that anyone of them would've done the same if they were in his place.

Added DiffLines:

* DisappointedInYou: Sakura replies to Leon's increasingly desperate attempts to deflect suspicion in the first trial by saying, "Disappointing, Leon."

Added DiffLines:

* FirstNameBasis: While LastNameBasis is the norm, classmates occasionally use each other's first names- Aoi toward Sakura, Kiyotaka twice toward Mondo and a handful of other isolated examples.

Added DiffLines:

* NeverSpeakIllOfTheDead: In the dub, Aoi says this is why she didn't mention that Sayaka was the one who took the knife from the kitchen.

Added DiffLines:

* NotSoInnocentWhistle: In Episode 6, Yasuhiro whistles after Toko claims that someone would be desperate enough for money to kill for Monokuma's latest motive- a large amount of money for anyone who manages to graduate. Considering that he's deep in debt, it's obviously trying to deflect suspicion from himself.
