The OVA generated enough interest to make [[http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-08-18/black-rock-shooter-gets-tv-anime-in-january a new anime series]], running on Creator/{{noitaminA}}'s timeslot during the Winter2012Anime season with a different director. The anime began airing on February 3, 2012, and had a [[AlternateContinuity slightly retooled]] plot: Mato Kuroi enters junior high school and meets a girl, Yomi Takanashi, who seems to be completely distant and aloof. An attempt to become friends with her ends up into a nasty run-in with CreepyChild Kagari Izuriha, who seems to be obsessed with Yomi to {{Yandere}} levels. * DoppelgangerLink: Humans and their Otherselves are linked. When Kagari carves a heart-shaped scar on Yomi Takanashi's chest, the same scar appears on Dead Master. When an Otherself is killed, their human counterpart screams in agony, faints, and then wakes up with no memory of whatever caused them grief and pain. If a human dies, their Otherself ceases to exist (this is never seen, but Saya implies this when she attempts to murder Mato Kuroi to destroy Black Rock Shooter, but ultimately cannot bring herself to do the deed). As long as the human lives, the Otherself will eventually resurrect.

It's a completely different continuity, it shouldn't be on the same page. And it has a different name, so I have no idea why it ENDED UP on the same page.

A new series called ''Black★★Rock Shooter: Dawn Fall'' premiered on April 3, 2022. It is only airing on Creator/StarDisneyPlus in Japan. It has a new plot similar to [[VideoGame/BlackRockShooter the game]] and has a light novel prequel called ''Black★★Rock Shooter BEFORE DAWN''. It also has a 4-Koma SliceOfLife spoof called ''Black★★Rock Shooter DAWN FALL Official Yonkoma Manga Dawn Fall!''. It is the year 2062. For two decades, Artemis, an automated workforce AI, rebelled against humanity and laid waste to the Earth. Empress, aka Black★Rock Shooter, wakes up in an underground laboratory with no memories. She joins a resistance force and is ordered to destroy a SpaceElevator Artemis is constructing, because if it is completed, hordes of machines Artemis is constructing on the Moon will be able to descend on the Earth. She also runs into her old friends Dead Master, who is obsessed with her, and Strength, who blames her for her suffering.

[[folder: ''Black★★Rock Shooter: Dawn Fall'']]
* TwoDVisualsThreeDEffects: More than the other two anime. With characters flip-flopping between both mediums on a regular basis; while vehicles, mecha and effects are shown in 3D only.
* AGodAmI: [[spoiler:Lunatic prides herself as one, with the end of the series being a final battle against her as she unleashes swaths of enemies and meteors to wipe out all land-dwelling life and start humanity again.]]
* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: Compared to the other animated versions of B★RS, Empress seems to have a DarkAndTroubledPast that also ropes in Dead Master and Strength and may have something to do with their hostility towards her.
* AdaptationalHeroism: While Dead Master and Strength are ''still'' at odds with Empress at the start of the series, [[spoiler:this is the first time they willingly teamed up with her against a much greater threat, albeit [[EnemyMine not for altruistic reasons]]]]. It is later revealed in flashbacks that [[spoiler:both Dead Master and Strength were already on Empress' side even before the Institution's invasion began and [[HeelFaceRevolvingDoor their initial hostility towards her]] is actually the result of their minds being messed up after [[DownerBegining their disastrous first confrontation against the]] BigBad]], playing this trope straight.
* AdaptationalJerkass: Strength is more of {{Jerkass}} in this continuity: she has a personal beef with Empress (mainly due to believing that all of her pain and suffering is all Empress' fault) [[spoiler: and later acts like an AloofAlly towards her in later episodes]], whereas the previous animated versions of their relationship are either nonexistent (OVA) or mostly just seeing each other as obstacles [[spoiler:and the ''real'' Strength outright being friends with B★RS' counterpart (TV anime)]]. This later zig-zagged, as Episode 5 reveals that [[spoiler:Strength has a SplitPersonality: she acts like a violent, mean-spirited, and sharp-tongued {{Ladette}} with her Gigantic Arms on and her personality suddenly shifts into that of a wimpy NiceGirl if they're taken off]].
* AdaptationalSkimpiness:
** B★RS does not have her signature BadassLongcoat this time around.
** Dead Master wears a sleeveless gray skin-tight bodysuit and a short cape instead of an ElegantGothicLolita dress.
** Strength switches her signature sleeveless hoodie for a more tattered clothing.
* AdaptationalSpeciesChange: Empress, Dead Master, and Strength, who were originally [[ADarkerMe Other Selves]] in the OVA and TV Anime, are {{Cyborg}}s here.
* AfterTheEnd: The series takes place in a ''Film/MadMax''-inspired wasteland, one that seems to be toxic to most humans.
* AIIsACrapshoot: Artemis was supposed to help humanity through Elysion's automated workforce, but ended up betraying humanity and becoming the story's primary antagonist.
* ArtificialHuman: Empress is reimagined as a genetically engineered {{Cyborg}} with regenerative abilities in this series, with heavy implications that both Strength and Dead Master are the same.
* TheBadGuyWins: [[spoiler:Heavily implied in the finale that Lunatic wound up winning and killing most life living on the land.]]
* BittersweetEnding: [[spoiler: Empress destroys both Lunatic and the space elevator but [[HeroicSacrifice seemingly lost her life in the process]] as a result of [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique removing her limiters]]. Earth is spared as a result, but only due to Artemis postponing her plans for at least 200 years despite [[TheBadGuyWins wiping out 70% of humanity]]. However, Empress' death [[DeathIsCheap doesn't stick]], as the rest of the cast (as well as the child clones of Dead Master and Strength) saw her resurfacing again 50 years later to gun down Artemis' forces on the Moon.]]
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: The daughter of Colonel, Charlotte become this thanks to the Institute. [[spoiler:It took a beating from Empress, a {{Deprogram}}ming attempt from Monica, and a ''lot'' of convincing from Colonel to undo the brainwashing.]]
* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: [[spoiler:Empress, Dead Master, and Strength were nameless orphans who lived together in Lighthouse No. 8.]]
* CoolBike: After all previous adaptations barring ''[[VideoGame/BlackRockShooter The Game]]'' left out Black★Rock Shooter's motorcycle, in comes ''Dawn Fall'', where all three of huke's characters have them.
* CoolStarship: [[spoiler:The Black Trike is rebuilt as one in the DistantFinale.]]
* DistantFinale: [[spoiler:The second half of the final episode skips ahead 50 years.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:Realizing they have a common enemy in the Educational Institution, Dead Master and Strength put aside their animosity against Empress to help take them down. [[IOweYouMyLife It helps that Empress saved them from certain death at the Institute's hands]].]]
* KillAllHumans: The Educational Institution's ultimate goal, sparing a few young girls to become the bride of one of their generals, Smiley. They particularly take umbrage against Empress, Dead Master and Strength and attack them whenever they show up, any other casualties being a bonus. [[spoiler:Lunatic engages in this mainly as a stepping stone to her real goal which is to cultivate a new humanity that can adapt to other planets.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: [[spoiler:Even after 50 years, Charlotte and Miya still have their same youthful appearances. This is mainly due to them being pseudo-Hemitheos Units.]]
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Colonel's real name -- David -- is rarely, if ever, mentioned by the other characters.

* {{Stripperiffic}}: Series-exclusive character Monica is dressed only slightly less skimpily than the main trio.
* ThemeMusicPowerUp: [[spoiler: In the final scene, the series' theme song plays as humanity launches their counterattack against Artemis along with Dead Master, Strength, and Empress.]]
