The Pebbles Cereal brand was originally introduced in 1969 in an effort to revive an older Post-brand cereal called Sugar Rice Krinkles. It was Larry Weiss, then-Product Group Manager of the company, who had the idea to license use of the characters from then hit Creator/HannaBarbera cartoon ''WesternAnimation/TheFlintstones'' to act as mascots and Fruity Pebbles cereal was born. While the gimmick of [[TieInCereal having a cereal being associated with Fred and Barney]] was thought to be a fad at the time, high consumer demand led to the creation of a companion cereal, Cocoa Cereal, to be created only one year later. While the recipe for both cereals had changed over the years, Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles has always been a popular children's cereal AdjacentToThisCompleteBreakfast and it still sells more than 50 years later.

The commercials associated usually follow the same formula: Fred Flinstone is enjoying a delicious bowl of the iconic cereal, and Barney goes through a convoluted, Advertising/TrixRabbit-esq plan to steal his cereal for himself. Unlike the Advertising/TrixRabbit, Barney succeeds, and the commercial ends with Fred finding out that he had been tricked and he chases him off into the sunset while the narrator closes out the commercial.

While the brand has had many different Limited Time-flavors -- Berry, Cinnamon, Dino S'Mores, Marshmallow, Peanut Butter & Cocoa, Crunched, Ice Cream -- Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles will always hold-up as classic cereals.
