Fixing an oversight when I amended this in late 2022, since The Content Policy is primarily concerned with pages, so "page" is more accurate than "link" since the original text referred to work pages before I clarified that creator pages can be redlinked as well

Links to works and creators that don't yet have pages will thus show up as red. However, they'll automatically shift to blue when the page is created, so always link to works and creators even if they don't have a page yet, unless the link would violate Administrivia/TheContentPolicy--it makes it easier for when someone eventually writes it up. We do make an exception for long titles over the 64-character limit mentioned on Administrivia/HowToCreateAWorkPage -- red links that are too long come with some technical problems, so they should either be linked with an official shorter title or not linked at all.

Creator page links are fine, and removing an outdated paragraph that doesn't need to be there even in commented-out form

%%Sometimes a link is blue when the specific page referenced does not exist. This is because the same page title exists in a different Administrivia/namespace. Clicking on such a link will take you to an automatically generated disambiguation page. Since the link is therefore technically valid, it won't be red. - no longer true after a site update, links to non-existent pages now show up as red even there are pages in the same namespace

When a wikilink is made to a page that doesn't exist yet, the link text appears in redto be more precise, it's the HTML color #c60000, as opposed to the blue used for normal wikilinks. ItLooksLikeThis.

A misspelled or otherwise botched link will be red too, even if the page it was intended to go to does exist. These might be Administrivia/FrequentRedlinks, and should be fixed on sight.

Pages destined to forever be redlinks are listed on Administrivia/PermanentRedLinkClub.

Sometimes, Tropers will make redlinks without even intending to link! This is because the markup assumes every use of [=CamelCase=] is supposed to be a link. This can be a pain when trying to talk about, say, the SpeedChat function in an online game. In order to fix links like that, put [=[=this=]=] markup around the word, so SpeedChat becomes [=SpeedChat=].
