** In the original game, Annette Birkin was an unabashed and trigger happy MadScientist whose anger towards Umbrella and UndyingLoyalty for her husband's "[[TheVirus genius work]]" makes her come off as batshit insane. Worse still, Annette dismissed her only daughter Sherry and cared more about safeguarding the G-Virus. In the remake, Annette is sympathetic as she wants to keep the virus from falling into the wrong hands to prevent further incidents like Raccoon City from happening and actively works to destroy all remaining samples of the G-Virus. This also makes Annette's attempt to kill Ada (who wants to sell the virus to a third party) completely justified -- in fact, when Annette reveals Ada's true colors to Leon, she is able to make him turn against her. It's even more apparent in Claire's scenario as Annette saves Sherry from getting infected and [[TearJerker tells her daughter how much she loves her while dying]].

Zigzagged in that she also undergoes a pretty pointed case of AdaptationalVillainy at the same time, due to her [[spoiler:overseeing the Raccoon orphanage along with William and Chief Irons, and [[WouldHurtAChild signing off on Umbrella's use of the children housed there as test subjects]].]]
