* In the [[WesternAnimation/AsterixTheMansionsOfTheGods animated version]] of the ''ComicBook/{{Asterix}}'' story ''Recap/TheMansionsOfTheGods'', the Roman couple that gets coaxed into taking residence in the title mansion ends up befriending and helping the Gauls (the husband is crucial in rescuing Getafix and the wife is briefly seen bashing Romans soldiers along with the Gauls), while in the comic they were mainly used as comic relief and overall ButtMonkey.

* ''WesternAnimation/BatmanSoulOfTheDragon'':
** Lady Shiva is shown being an old friend of Bruce Wayne, Richard Dragon, and Ben Turner, having gone to the same martial arts school as them. While she's become the queen of organized crime in the present day, she's also shown to have standards and wants to carry out what O-Sensei asked of her and protect the sword he gave her. When it gets stolen by Jeffrey Burr's mooks in order to open up the portal to the underworld, she does not hesitate to help them get it back.
** Cheshire isn't depicted as an assassin; in fact [[spoiler:Jade dies before she can even become Cheshire]].
** Bronze Tiger isn't a villainous personality created for Ben Turner by the League of Assassins, but rather merely a name give to Turner by Kobra.

* WesternAnimation/DCAnimatedMovieUniverse:
** ''WesternAnimation/JusticeLeagueTheFlashpointParadox'':
*** Some characters are more heroic because their stories from [[ComicBook/FlashpointDCComics the comics]] are cut down. We don't see Citizen Cold murder anyone, and Ocean Master wasn't responsible for the war. Also, Slade Wilson/Deathstroke and Lex Luthor (who died at age 10 in the comics), along the entire crew of the ''Ravager'', are trying to stop Aquaman's weapon instead of looking for Slade's daughter.
*** Flashpoint Captain Atom. In the comics, General Nathaniel Adam never went through with the Dilustel experiment and is the devious and harsh director of "Project Six".
** ''WesternAnimation/SonOfBatman'', based on the first arc of ''ComicBook/BatmanGrantMorrison'', "Batman and Son", sees Deathstroke take Talia's role as the BigBad of the story, resulting is Talia being closer to her original characterization in the movie--until ''WesternAnimation/BatmanBadBlood'' saw her [[TookALevelInJerkass Take a Level in Jerkass]] and become closer to Morrison's depiction.
** ''WesternAnimation/JusticeLeagueVsTeenTitans'', much like the ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans2003'' cartoon, sees ComicBook/{{Raven}} much more resistant to Trigon's influence-induced HeelFaceRevolvingDoor and does what what she can to stop him, only giving in when the Titans are in trouble and fighting back once they're safe.
** ''WesternAnimation/JusticeLeagueDark'' revises the origin of Jason Blood's union with ComicBook/{{Etrigan}} to paint Jason in a better light. In the comics, Blood, a knight of Camelot, had fallen in love with the evil sorceress [[Myth/ArthurianLegend Morgaine le Fay]], and was cursed to be bound to the demon Etrigan by Merlin as punishment for treason in her name. Here, however, Blood was depicted as a much more noble knight, suffering a mortal wound in battle. After Merlin portended that the two had a shared destiny, he bound Etrigan to Blood to save his life, rather than as a curse.
** ''WesternAnimation/BatmanHush'' sees [[spoiler:Tommy Elliot indeed be innocent of being Hush, who instead turned out to be ComicBook/TheRiddler]].

* ''WesternAnimation/Injustice2021'' sees several characters from the undergo this: Green Lantern was called away, both Shazam and Aquaman opt out, Catwoman never joins the Regime, [[spoiler:[[DeathByAdaptation the Flash is killed before Lois]], and Wonder Woman defects after she learns Superman murdered a bunch of kids who idolized the Joker.]]

* ''WesternAnimation/JusticeLeagueGodsAndMonsters'':
** While this version of Lex Luthor still didn't like Superman, he doesn't appear to have the usual GreenEyedMonster side of his mainstream self, and [[spoiler: he proves a hero by the end of the movie]].
** Dr. Sivana, a CardCarryingVillain in the mainstream universe, is working for the government here. However, this version is a KnightTemplar JerkAss, so he's still pretty unlikable [[spoiler: and hence an AssholeVictim]].
** ''ComicBook/{{Darkseid}}'' is willing to make peace instead of continue a centuries-old feud. [[spoiler:Pronounced in Highfather going against the deal ''first''.]] It's also suggested that he is [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes a much better father]] than his [[AbusiveParents mainstream counterpart]] to his son Orion, judging by how he reacts to [[spoiler: Highfather killing Darkseid]].
** Victor Fries never becomes Mr. Freeze.
** Amanda Waller is the President of the United States. Additionally, she's less extreme than in the comics and while she has countermeasures in place to deal with the League, given the League in this as a whole are a bunch of violent anti-heroes, with Superman being a SmugSuper, Batman as a vampiric SociopathicHero, and Wonder Woman as a LadyOfWar, it's hard to blame her for creating them.
** [[spoiler: The tie-in miniseries, ''Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles'', does this to Brainiac. He's typically depicted in the mainstream universe as a shining representation of AliensAreBastards. This one, on the other hand, is a WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds who can't control his power.]]

* ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManIntoTheSpiderVerse'':
** Wilson Fisk aka ComicBook/TheKingpin gets this to a certain degree, in comics while he has the very occasional PetTheDog moments he's still pretty much an unrepentant JerkAss. In the movie, we learn [[spoiler: Fisk is just trying to get his wife Vanessa and son Richard back after they were killed in a car accident, which makes Kingpin a helluva lot more [[TragicVillain sympathetic]] despite his crimes]].
** [[spoiler: Aaron Davis aka The Prowler get this as well, since in the ''ComicBook/UltimateMarvel'' universe, which Miles's universe is based on, "uncle Aaron" was an utter bastard who abused Miles and tried to forcefully make his nephew join him as a villain before getting HoistByHisOwnPetard. In the movie, Aaron genuinely loves Miles and has a HeelRealization when he discovers (by unmasking him) that's he's been fighting his nephew the whole time. Aaron also protects Miles's identity from Kingpin (who shoots him) and apologizes to Miles for his actions while dying]].
** On the heroes side, ComicBook/SpiderManNoir gets this a bit, his violent AntiHero behavior [[LighterAndSofter is toned down]] making him more of a NiceGuy and unlike the comic where Noir happily kills criminals, the movie version notably [[ThouShallNotKill spares villains he beats]]. The comic version of Noir is also a PoliticallyIncorrectHero who holds some of the racist and sexist views that were common in his time, an aspect of his character that was also abandoned for the film.
* ''WesternAnimation/SupermanBatmanPublicEnemies'' sees ComicBook/AmandaWaller's role as an AscendedExtra also involve her being the OnlySaneMan working for Lex Luthor and turning on him when she realizes just how insane he is.
* [[spoiler: Lex Luthor]] is this in ''WesternAnimation/SupermanRedSon'', based on the comic of the same name. He starts out similar enough, what with his vendetta against Superman clouding his better judgement. [[spoiler: Unlike his comic counterpart, when he thinks Superman died, he's genuinely regretful for what he did, resigns as US president, and hands it over to someone else without a problem. Lex also doesn't [[BadBoss kill his lab assistants]] in frustration here, like he did in the comic.]]

* ''WesternAnimation/UltimateAvengers'':
** In ''ComicBook/TheUltimates'', ComicBook/BlackWidow turned out to be TheMole in the team and a murderous traitor. In the movies, she's not only a legitimate hero, but much kinder to boot. She even ends up hooking up with ComicBook/CaptainAmerica at the end of the second film.
** The films notably soften the character of [[ComicBook/AntMan Hank Pym]]. While he's very impulsive, egotistical and hotheaded, he's not a violent, unstable {{Domestic Abuse}}r like he was in ''ComicBook/TheUltimates''. In fact, his relationship with [[ComicBook/TheWasp Jan]] is ''far'' less volatile here, and he [[spoiler: ultimately [[HeroicSacrifice dies a hero]] in the second film, in contrast to the comics, where he was kicked off the team in disgrace after the other Ultimates found out what he did to his wife -- and that's without getting ended up aiding Widow in ''ComicBook/TheUltimate2'']].

* In ''WesternAnimation/HowToTrainYourDragon'', Snotlout Jorgenson is shown to be the biggest bully among the teenage Vikings, making fun of Hiccup for being weak and clumsy, and actively belittling and ostracizing him. [[spoiler:Like the other teens, he gets better in the end.]] Meanwhile, in [[Literature/HowToTrainYourDragon the original books]], Snotlout was Hiccup's cousin, who repeatedly tried to murder him in order to become next in line for chieftainship. The Adaptational Heroism is pushed even further in the TV show, ''WesternAnimation/DragonsRidersOfBerk'', where CharacterDevelopment kicks in and gradually reveals Snotlout to be a JerkWithAHeartOfGold.

* ''WesternAnimation/Nimona2023'':
** Downplayed in that Ballister was [[AntiVillain hardly even a villain in the original webcomic]], but he still identified himself as such and engaged in morally-dubious schemes (albeit while still [[ThouShaltNotKill refusing to take a life]]) because he thought [[ThenLetMeBeEvil it was useless to try to combat the Institution's smear campaign against him]]. In the movie, Ballister is directly putting in the effort into clearing his name, and the official preview has him adamantly refusing to identify himself as a "villain" despite Nimona's claims.
** Played straight with Nimona, who was legitimately murderous in the original webcomic and had to be kept in check by Ballister [[spoiler:until she finally embrace ThenLetMeBeEvil and unleashed her SuperpoweredEvilSide on the Institute, wounding and killing many]], while she's more of a general rebellious teenager in the movie with a dark sense of humor who is more interested in humiliating her opponents than actually killing them. [[spoiler:She briefly does turn into a {{Kaiju}} like she does in the webcomic, but she's talked down from going on the rampage, with the resulting destruction of kingdom being the result of the Director's actions. Tellingly, when it seemed she perished in the fight, the kingdom honors her as a hero, while she was seen as a monster with only Ballister sympathizing with her at the end of the webcomic.]]

* In the ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'' games, Cranky Kong was a RetiredMonster who was [[VideoGame/DonkeyKong the original Donkey Kong]] that [[DamselInDistress kidnapped Pauline in the first game]]. However in ''WesternAnimation/TheSuperMarioBrosMovie'', he's done no such things and [[AdaptationalNiceGuy is a benevolent king]] who's more mischievous than mean-spirited unlike his counterpart.

** Scorpion has a history of Main/HeelFaceRevolvingDoor in the games and is often regarded as a villain and siding with them against Raiden's forces, before finally becoming good by the reboot timeline. Here, [[spoiler:even before Quan Chi reveals he is the one who killed his family]], Scorpion is a rather decent person and even allied himself with Liu Kang, Sonya and Johnny against Kano's mercenaries despite them being his opponents in the tournament.

** Rapunzel's parents in ''WesternAnimation/{{Tangled}}''. The father steals lettuce from a witch's garden in the original tale, simply because his pregnant wife had a craving for it. Rapunzel's parents also disappear from the story and never seem to bother about the whereabouts of the daughter they gave up (although there are some alternate interpretation that the parents [[DeathByDespair died out of despair]]). In the film, the mother is dying and, rather than knowingly stealing from the witch, they find a golden flower that the witch had been using to make herself young. Then, when the witch finds out that the baby -- Rapunzel -- has been given a potion made from this golden flower, the witch kidnaps her so that the witch can continue making herself young. [[spoiler: Rapunzel is also reunited with her parents at the end]] -- and her parents are implied to have been searching for her all her life.
