* CassandraTruth: {{Defied}} and consequently {{downplayed}}. Mariko is GenreSavvy enough to only explain everything about Monster X to Monarch once they've found out for themselves that it has Vivienne's DNA in it, and Mark is the only one who outright [[ArbitrarySkepticism doesn't believe her]] at first.
* CatlikeDragons: {{Downplayed}} by San and Godzilla respectively, who both at times produce purr-like vocalizations as an affectionate gesture. Played straighter by the newborn [[SeaSerpents Manda]], who behaves like an inquisitive kitten and was once [[https://www.tumblr.com/hrodvitnon/704531515544092672/ compared by the author]] to an "overgrown noodle cat".

* ColorContrast:
** Ghidorah and Monster X notably have this. Monster X's lightning and bioluminescence are reddish-orange instead of yellow, and after its second {{Metamorphosis}}, the gold traces in its bones and skin have turned into silver (in stark contrast to Ghidorah's gold scales) and its skin is [[DarkIsNotEvil dark-gray]] compared to Ghidorah's [[BrightIsNotGood gold scales]].
** Thor's bright-blue lightning is also a contrast to both Ghidorah and Monster X.

* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Monster X dishes out some of these during the story, particularly to Jonah's men early on -- ripping in half, reducing to ''unrecognizable'' viscera, blowing them away with lightning -- not to mention the RasputinianDeath Monster X delivers to [[spoiler:[=MaNi=]/Elder Brother which renders the latter [[OnlyMostlyDead mostly dead]]]]. It's also confirmed in the story that Vivienne didn't die too quickly when Ichi/Eldest Brother ate her alive in Antarctica. [[spoiler:Thor's death by HeroicSacrifice when he gets infected by the Many and goes out fighting Keizer Ghidorah]] is a pretty horrible Rasputinian Death.
* CueTheSun: Twice.
** At the end of the Yonaguni battle, the stormclouds caused by the Many's WeatherManipulation break up and sunlight begins filtering through.
** At the end of the FinalBattle, [[spoiler:Keizer Ghidorah]] is defeated and its sky-blotting storms dissipate just moments before dawn breaks.

** Jonah has no problem killing any DisposableVagrant who compromises his operations, and he (possibly due to SanitySlippage) forgets to think about his own soldiers' welfare in [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13357907/6 Chapter 6]].
* BaddieFlattery: Vivienne gets complimented a couple times by [[spoiler:San-Who-Could-Have-Been/Youngest Brother, Ichi/Eldest Brother and [=MaNi=]/Elder Brother respectively]] on how ferocious, brutal and beautiful a creature she's grown into, because a monster that's just like Ghidorah is what they want of her.
* BaldOfEvil: Besides [[Creator/CharlesDance Alan Jonah]], two of his {{Mook Lieutenant}}s who are [[OCStandIn O.C. Stand-in]]s in the story – Tejada and Sergeant Travis – are confirmed by [[https://hrodvitnon.tumblr.com/post/628652716177096704/ Word of God]] to be {{Mook}}s from ''King of the Monsters'' who were shaved-headed. In the case of the latter two it's arguably {{subverted}}, since Tejada and Travis are both AffablyEvil and one of them is implied to make a HeelFaceTurn.

* BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil:
** Jonah and later [[spoiler:Ghidorah]] both seek to [[InvokedTrope invoke]] this on Monster X so they can break down Vivienne's identity and reshape her into something else.
** It's later revealed that [[spoiler:this trope happened to Ghidorah in its {{Backstory}} at the hands of its creators, driving Ghidorah to pull a TurnedAgainstTheirMasters and subsequently suffer SlowlySlippingIntoEvil due to the TerribleTicking its creators had left its heads with]].

* BewareMyStingerTail: Mothra gets to use her stinger once she reaches her imago form, and [=MaNi=]/Elder Brother has a thagomizer-like tail which he enjoys using as a weapon.
* BewareTheNiceOnes:
** Monster X overall has this. Vivienne wasn't easily angered when she was a human, but her temper was frightening when she was pushed too far, and she is now more dangerous due to her TraumaCongaLine and PTSD. Likewise, San is a real sweetheart towards Vivienne and is at least tolerant and mildly curious towards humans, but God help you if you hurt his sister. (Did we also mention Monster X's storm powers are fuelled by anger and hate?)
** Mothra has an angelic and benevolent personality, but you do ''not'' want to cause a harmful ruckus involving those she considers her children. Rodan and Thor learn this in [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13357907/9 Chapter 9]], and she furthermore lives up to her name as Godzilla's Queen of the Monsters in Chapter 17.
** Susan Graham is/was also this, as proven in [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13357907/12 Chapter 12]].
** Dr. Brooks is a rather mellow man and he can even be slightly nervous at times, but when a firm hand is required he'll remind you with nothing but his gaze that he's the same guy who [[Film/KongSkullIsland unloaded a machine-gun at a gigantic Skullcrawler]].

* BigScrewedUpFamily: To put it ''very mildly''. The Many's HiveMind have a very twisted idea of themselves, the slowly-regenerating Ghidorah, and [[AntiAntichrist Vivienne]] who [[spoiler:Ghidorah still]] has very nasty plans for, to be a growing family, a notion which San-2/Youngest Brother also seems to buy into.

* BladeBelowTheShoulder: Scylla uses her sharp-bladed legs as cutting weapons, and [=MaNi=]/Elder Brother possesses a retractable bone spike-claw in his arm.

* BloodierAndGorier: It has more BodyHorror than any of the canon [=MonsterVerse=] installments, to say nothing of the {{Cruel and Unusual Death}}s.
* BlueIsHeroic: Thor's eyes and electrical powers are blue, and he's a fierce protector Titan. Manda has a blue coloration, and despite being a baby is already displaying noble personality traits.

* BreathWeapon: In addition to Mothra's webbing and Godzilla's abilities; Rodan can spit fireballs from his maw, and [=MaNi=]/Elder Brother [[spoiler:retains his Gravity Beam]].
* BrightIsNotGood: Unlike Monster X, the Many have partly golden-yellow skin to match Ghidorah's scales and lightning.

* BruiserWithASoftCenter: Monster X, and most of those heroic Titans who are Protector class (namely Godzilla and Thor), are ferocious beasts who'll fight tooth and claw to the death, yet they have soft sides for humans and/or certain fellow Titans. For a human example, Zima is a well-built and intimidating-looking guy even after he's been malnourished for months, yet he's very tender and concerned for his wife.
* BrutalHonesty: {{Downplayed}} and PlayedStraight. San is honestly blunt and doesn't leave out relevant details when reporting to others, partly because he hasn't had a concept of lying before and he thinks once he understands it that it's a waste of brain-power. [[https://hrodvitnon.tumblr.com/post/697040294509690881/ Word of God]] notes that this is something San and Ni/Elder Brother have in common [[spoiler:after a regenerating Ghidorah gains access to the Many's socio-cultural knowledge]].

** In Chapter 4, Jonah has one of his {{Mook Lieutenant}}s deliberately attempt to provoke Monster X to anger by relentlessly hurling increasingly vicious taunts at Vivienne. When said soldier finally goes too far on her, San takes over the wheel and shuts him up permanently -- ''[[BewareTheNiceOnes and]]'' [[BewareTheNiceOnes mercilessly]].

* EleventhHourRanger: [[spoiler:Methuselah and the MUTO Queen]] join Godzilla and Mothra in the FinalBattle.

* AlternateSelf:
** There's essentially more than one version of San, as the San who serves as one of the protagonists only has memories of Ghidorah's actions up to his head's decapitation, and doesn't remember what his regrown doppelgänger on Ghidorah's body did before it died at Boston -- kind of like an outdated backup file copy. Besides the San who died at Boston, San-2/Youngest Brother is the result of San's old Ghidorah head regenerating his personality and memories after San's consciousness transferred from it to Monster X, and he lacks the main San's CharacterDevelopment that led to a HeelFaceTurn.
** [=MaNi=]/Elder Brother is [[spoiler:a "shed skin" like Vivienne's San, created by Ghidorah's right head splitting off during the three-headed monster's regeneration and forming an autonomous body with the Many. He's also seemingly even more AxCrazy than is normal for Ni. During Chapter 17, two versions of Ni/Elder Brother are existing at the same time after Ghidorah has regenerated its right head from [=MaNi's=] creation]].

* AnimalTalk: Specifically Kaiju Talk. All the Titans including Monster X are able to communicate with each other and understand what they're saying, plus there's special humans who can somewhat [[SpeaksFluentAnimal Speak Fluent Kaiju]] to a degree.

* TheAntichrist: Monster X is the AntiAntichrist; a half-human ArtificialHybrid created by Ghidorah which [[spoiler:Ghidorah]] wants to drive down a StartOfDarkness, but is firmly on the side of humanity and the heroic Titans. The Zmeyevich are {{implied}} to be a straighter example of this trope: they are quite literally Ghidorah's hybrid offspring, and [[spoiler:once they're born, there's nothing to suggest they'll be inclined to side with Team Good like Monster X did]].

* ArmorPiercingQuestion:
** This question from Vivienne to Mariko about the deaths at Outpost 58 renders the latter silent in [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13357907/3 Chapter 3]]:

* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade:
** [[AdaptationalAngstDowngrade Inverted with Jonah]]: him being slowly maddened into misanthropy by decades of repetitive war experience is largely absent in this story, and the murder of his daughter (which was mentioned as a factor in the ''King of the Monsters'' novelization) is the chief reason for his start of darkness.
** Mark Russell, on top of the grief of losing Emma and having missed out on a big chunk of his now-ShellShockedVeteran daughter's childhood like in ''Godzilla vs. Kong'', also has SurvivorGuilt and receives YouShouldHaveDiedInstead in this continuity.

* AxCrazy:
** Ghidorah's three heads (especially Ichi/Eldest Brother and Ni/Elder Brother) are no AdaptationalNiceGuy here whatsoever, getting a kick out of tormenting and then killing with extreme prejudice anything that they consider to be an enemy or beneath them -- [[ItsPersonal except for Vivienne]]. The story also reveals how Ghidorah became this way, [[spoiler:revealing it was a result of BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil followed by eons of death-demanding TerribleTicking]].
*** [=MaNi=]/Elder Brother takes this a bit further: unlike Ghidorah, who knows how to restrain itself when it's very pragmatic, [=MaNi=] only cares about ''playing with'' Monster X with some good old ultraviolence [[StupidEvil and he doesn't know when to stop]]. And he won't hesitate to attack ''any'' living thing that has Monster X's scent on them, if he thinks it'll provoke Monster X to fight him more fiercely.
** Jonah has an [[NotHimself uncharacteristic]] psychotic episode in Chapter 5, when he performs a particularly nasty experiment on Monster X that involves fire and he goes out of his way to try verbally ripping Vivienne to shreds for minimal reason, signifying his SanitySlippage.

* BloodKnight: Though San isn't an OmnicidalManiac like his brothers and is less sadistic unless provoked, he genuinely enjoys a fight. San's Elder Brother Ni and by extension [=MaNi=] in particular favor fighting and killing for their own sakes. Rodan is no fight-avoiding diplomat himself. {{Subverted}} by Godzilla, who draws the line between TranquilFury and TheBerserker in Chapter 8.

* CainAndAbel: San and his brothers (Ni and Ichi) are the Abel and the Cain respectively.

* ChildByRape: Nadezhda, Esfir and Lubyov have been artificially inseminated with [[spoiler:Ghidorah-related]] {{Fetus Terrible}}s, clearly without their consent. It's revealed in Chapter 16 that [[spoiler:Ghidorah intends to {{invoke}} [[BabyFactory this]] on Vivienne as another way to torture her]].

* ComicBookFantasyCasting: The author has described what the voices of [[https://hrodvitnon.tumblr.com/post/623720240777412608 Godzilla and Ichi, Ni]] and [[https://hrodvitnon.tumblr.com/post/631248784044736512/ San]] respectively sound like. She's also provided voices for [[https://hrodvitnon.tumblr.com/post/674866733284294656/ Thor, Rodan]], [[https://hrodvitnon.tumblr.com/post/656925774619738112/ Scylla and Methuselah]], she's toyed with what [[https://hrodvitnon.tumblr.com/post/670674882177171456/ Mothra]] and [[https://hrodvitnon.tumblr.com/post/665698309633114112/ several minor humans]]' voices would sound like, and she's stated Monster X's voice in its first form sounds like the Gravemind's in ''Franchise/{{Halo}}''.

* DeadpanSnarker: Besides Jonah and Stanton, Vivienne demonstrates a sharp tongue and a deadpan sense of humor a few times throughout the story. Chapter 15 shows it's a trait that [[spoiler:Vivienne's mother Susan]] also possesses, when the latter is observing a news feed. Godzilla himself isn't above making an occasional snark while sounding dead-serious. Even [[spoiler:Ichi/Eldest Brother and Ni/Elder Brother]] get in on this trope at the early onset of their VillainousBreakdown in Chapter 17.

* BodyHorror:
** Monster X's first form is in a chronic state of agony, has ingrown extra fangs along the jaws, and a horrifically extreme case of ''Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva'' which is exacerbated by the {{Healing Factor}}'s defect, making it very difficult for Viv and San to move certain joints without risking breaking their bones.
** Then there's the Many, whose appearance was apparently partly inspired by bone cancer images (do a quick Google Images search, and you'll see why [[https://hrodvitnon.tumblr.com/post/622316219520974848/ the author advised against repeating her actions]]). The Many's [[spoiler:[[TheAssimilator Assimilator]]-style FusionDance splitting apart and fusing together infected bodies, and incorporating tumorous-looking smaller bodies into {{Mind Hive}}s]], only adds to the effect.

* FusionDance:
** The Many perform a lot of this with their biomasses in the style of ''Film/TheThing1982''.
** Monster X is TwoBeingsOneBody, [[spoiler:but when it transforms into its single-headed final form, Viv and San experience a MentalFusion]].

* HorrifyingTheHorror:
** Remember the Skullcrawlers from ''Film/KongSkullIsland''? Vicious, bloodthirsty, HorrorHunger-mad beasties that'll take Kong in a fight without hesitation? Well, what's lurking around the abandoned Monarch outpost following the {{Artificial Zombie}}s' creation and [[spoiler:the disappearance of San's old head]] is so terrible, Kong's old foes flee in terror when it's near them; in [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13357907/11/ Chapter 11]].
** As much of a BloodKnight with a [[HotBlooded fiery streak to his personality]] as he is, Rodan himself is given pause and almost unnerved when he sees from the sideline just how ferocious Monster X can get when enraged, in [[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13357907/13 Chapter 13]].
** [[https://hrodvitnon.tumblr.com/post/694435146019078144/ Word of God]] says that two of the few elements of horror fiction that would genuinely disturb San are: liminal space (a la WebOriginal/TheBackrooms), and [[AfraidOfDoctors hospital horror]].
