* In ''Fanfic/TropePantheons'', After his failed attempt to corrupt Kyoko Sakura into becoming the witch Ophelia, Albert Wesker had a plan implied to be a Xanatos Gambit. Even if they lost, Wesker has implanted a device into Edward Elric's automail that activates Ignis under the GUAG's nose. However, this hasn't been brought up again.

* ''Fanfic/StarTrekPhoenix'': The conflict between Sunset and Twilight following the former's return was originally intended to last for the bulk of Season 2. However, a number of issues -- chiefly centering around the author overestimating how familiar the readers would have been with the behavior of someone suffering from severe emotional trauma, and thus how well they would understand Twilight's thought processes based on the textual cues present in the story -- led to Sunset and especially Twilight's performances during it to receive strongly negative responses from the readers, which eventually convinced Dewdrops on the Grass that the best way to handle the situation would be to just quickly end the arc several chapters early and move on.

* ''Fanfic/TheNightUnfurls'': This is bound to happen, as a result of the [[OrphanedSeries discontinuation of the original story]].
** First, there's how Grave Levantine is responsible for framing Klaus, Claudia's husband, as a traitor, which drives a wedge between Kyril, Claudia, and their associates. The original being discontinued means that this plot thread had no resolution whatsoever (namely, Klaus is under protective custody, but it is never revealed whether Grave [[LaserGuidedKarma gets his comeuppance]] or [[KarmaHoudini gets away with it scot-free]]).
** Second, [[spoiler:Evetta's presence in the Waking World (or rather, her StealthHiBye tendencies in Celestine's personal quarters)]] is one of the driving points that escalates tensions between Kyril and Claudia. After the ''Rebel Scum Arc'', Kyril makes a note to discuss with Claudia as to what she is doing [[spoiler:having Evetta trailed]], but this is dropped later on during the ''Hunt for Mandeville Arc''.
** Lastly, the ''Thorn Arc'', which revolves around [[spoiler:the siege of Thorn, together with Kyril and his company heading there for the BigBadassBattleSequence that ensues. Since the original story has been discontinued, the readers don't get to see whoever survives and whichever side wins. On the other hand, the way how Chapter 33 ends off is akin to a BolivianArmyEnding.]]

* ''Franchise/{{Superman}}'' fanfiction ''Fanfic/SupermanOf2499TheGreatConfrontation'', deals with the hardships of the descendants of Superman and ComicBook/{{Supergirl}} in the far future. In the fourth chapter a character is fed up with the Family Law which dictates there can only be one Superman and the rest of relatives are supposed to hide their powers. So, he declares he won't pretend to be a normal human again, and a large number of relatives support him. However that subplot was quickly dropped.

* In ''Fanfic/{{Fractured}}'', a ''Franchise/MassEffect''[=/=]''Franchise/StarWars''[[spoiler:[=/=]''VideoGame/{{Borderlands}}'']] [[MassiveMultiplayerCrossover crossover]], the opening of [[spoiler:Vaults]] is set up to produce different results depending on who activated it and under what circumstance they did so. In the [[FanFic/{{Origins}} sequel]], this notion [[{{Retcon}} disappears entirely]] and they are given a different purpose.

** The terentatek's remark about having not sensed a powerful Force-user like Jaune in "many centuries" implies that someone else from the ''Star Wars'' galaxy had previously visited Remnant. This plot point is immediately dropped and never gets brought up again.

** After Ozpin fails to glean any informstion about the terentatek from Jaune, he hints that he intends to keep a closer eye on Jaune as well as personally investigate the terentatek's origins at a later date. Nothing really comes out of this and Ozpin only starts paying attention to Jaune after the events of the Breach more than a month later.

* ''Fanfic/JauneArcLordOfHunger'': The chapters "Fear" and "Malachor" introduced several potential plotlines that end up going nowhere.

* ''Fanfic/JauneArcLordOfHunger'': The chapters "Fear" and "Malachor" introduce several potential plot points that don't receive any pay off.

** The mere presence of a terentatek on Remnant opens up the possibility of other Sithspawn like it being present on Remnant. Outside of a few minor {{Call Back}}s, the terentatek is all but forgotten about in future chapters. WordOfGod eventually confirms that, yes, more Dark Side creatures like the terentatek do exist on Remnant, but makes it clear that they ultimately don't pertain to the remainder of the plot.

* One of the main characters of the ''Anime/SonicX'' fanfic ''FanFic/DontKeepYourDistance'' is Star, one of Dr. Eggman's robots who turns good and helps the other protagonists. Star cannot speak, communicating only in gestures and ambiguous robot noises, but it is implied early on that it actually cannot understand the animals' speech; this is quickly abandoned, likely for convenience.

* ''Fanfic/JauneArcLordOfHunger'': In "Malachor", Ozpin and Goodwitch question Jaune about his knowledge of the terentatek that attacked his classmates in an earlier chapter, since Jaune was reported to have identified the previously-unknown creature by name. When Jaune proves to be uncooperative, Ozpin gives up and leaves with the implication that he's going to privately investigate the matter. This plot point is never followed up on and is almost immediately dropped afterwards.

* ''FanFic/BackToTheFrollo'' stared several plot arcs that ultimately were never concluded. Malus and his gypsy gang were mentioned as antagonists but never got full arcs, and Esmeralda is unceremoniously dragged away and her fate is never discussed again.

* ''FanFic/BoyScoutsOneHalf'': This series used to have a pretty strong (and ''Series/TheXFiles'' inspired) arc about a shadowy conspiracy by some of the older adult Scout leaders. This arc, other then the occasional reference, was dropped after Mike Quadrozzi, one of the authors who once worked on the series, stopped doing so.
* ''{{Franchise/Pokemon}}'' fanfic ''FanFic/CloudedSky'' was originally intended to be the second in a series of four, but the author decided not to make the third and fourth, leading to certain plot elements being set up without ever receiving any payoff. The meaning of these elements and the author's original plans are all explained in a postscript after the epilogue.

* In ''FanFic/TalesOfTheEmperasque'', there was supposed to be an arc exploiting a [[Website/FourChan /tg/]] joke that claims Leman Russ was turned by Warp into ''Anime/SpiceAndWolf'''s Hulu. The canon!Leman and Hulu!Leman would meet and hijinks would ensue. However, the author decided that the idea is stupid and the girl who was supposed to be Hulu!Leman was retconned into reborn Sister of Silence and then forgotten about.

* In ''FanFic/{{Fractured}}'', a ''Franchise/MassEffect''[=/=]''Franchise/StarWars''[[spoiler:[=/=]''VideoGame/{{Borderlands}}'']] [[MassiveMultiplayerCrossover crossover]], the opening of [[spoiler:Vaults]] is set up to produce different results depending on who activated it and under what circumstance they did so. * ''Fanfic/TheGolds'': Mr. Gold was going to go out and get Rose himself, first going to Moe French and then to Gaston to test his memory-preserving spell. He was just about to leave when he is contacted by a newly awakened Belle telling him that she's coming home.

Getschman apparently doesn't even remember what that running gag was supposed to be leading up to.

** The series creator Jack Getschman originally planned to reveal at some point near the end of the series, that Pinkie Pie was EvilAllAlong, something that was even foreshadowed by the fact that the very few other {{Fourth Wall Breaker}}s shown at that point, were antagonists of some kind, But as the show went on, Getschman realized Pinkie was acting too nice for a supposedly evil character. He specifically noted that her showing compassion for Rarity in episode 14 was the last straw. So he scrapped that particular plot twist and says he has a completely different arc planned for Pinkie.

* In ''RolePlay/WeAreAllPokemonTrainers'' the Warriors sub-arc in Holon lacked a resolution due to the player responsible for managing it losing motivation.
* ''Roleplay/WeHaveAllBecomePokemon'' has had its fair share of this itself, with arguably the biggest example being the Slak Rock arc, which ended without resolution when the player managing said arc abruptly left the RP without warning. Some smaller-scale examples of this include:
** The epilogue of the Hoard arc was not meant to end at the point that it did, but did anyway due to much of the playerbase [[ArcFatigue having grown tired of the arc by that point]] and wanting to move on from Hoard.
** The music competition during the Gleamscape arc ended early due to the player managing it having to take a hiatus from the RP.
** During the aforementioned Slak Rock arc, Marlon the Gallade was tasked with training a feisty Meinfoo named Sho. This plot was abruptly cancelled shortly afterwards when Sho's player decided to call it quits.
