Working Title: Your vampires suck: From YKTTW

Cosmetor: Pay attention. We decided not to use that title.

Indigo: Oh, good. It wasn't just me who had that "wait, I thought we decided against this title..." reaction.

Claire89: ... did I miss something? Also, the description mentions Pratchett and dragons, but completely fails to talk about "Carpe Jugulum," an entire novel poking fun at vampire clichés.

Ununnilium: Honestly, this seems like it would be way better expanded into a Your Monsters Who Are Different Suck page.

((GM Beowulf)): The line about World of Darkness and how "classical weaknesses and unusual powers of Dracula and so on are incompatible with the system," seems a bit problematic, given that every power (except walking freely in sunlight) demonstrated by Dracula in the novel waws covered by some discipline or another. Potence, Celerity, Dominate, Protean, Animalism...and you're done. And he took lots and lots of flaws to get all of those dots.

Bob: The following all seem to be Our Vampires Are Different. If the works contain a Take That! to other kind of vampires, please make it clear in the examples.

  • In the series Rosario To Vampire, when Moka is in her super vampire mode, she can pretty much defeat most enemies in under 2 mins with her super-strength but if she get even a little bit wet, she weakens and even shorts out like a robot without any waterproofing.
  • This Troper has never seen Moonlight, but has seen previews for it where the title character is being interviewed, and is talking about various vampire traits and how they are different from traditional beliefs.
    • Actually, the protagonist was imagining that scene.
  • The vampires in Hellsing? Sure, most of them are just bulletproof, supernaturally fast and inhumanly strong. Then, you have Alucard, who can use his hand like a sword, turn into dogs or sentient shadow, move aircraft carriers with his mind, and pretty much do whatever he wants. Nevermind calling in an army of all the people he's ever killed.

Peteman: Cut:

  • Seriously, noone has mentioned Twilight? I like the series, but there's enough It's Popular Now it Sucks hate on the series to power Skeletor.
    • Not including the legitimate concerns like the whole "presenting an emotionally absuive boyfriend as desirable" and the pedophile werewolves...

This trope is about vampire fiction (or series with vampires in them) taking potshots at other vampire fiction. Find something that fits that regarding Twilight (could be a webcomic or some webfiction) that does so, and you can put it here. PS: Come on vampire fiction writers! This is your invitation!

((Nndaia)): On the line:

  • If the modern concepts of biology has taught us anything, your average vampire doesn't require fire to slay. Sufficient brain damage can prove to prevent the regeneration process seeing as the brain sends commands to the rest of the body (unless of course the dude became a vampire because of some sort of sorcery, which of course implies that most forms of improvised slayings would backfire).

The brain does not directly control the regeneration process. The only reasons why damaging the brain would prevent regeneration is because 1) there are some hormones that are secreted there that may have some effect and 2) it controls things such as breathing and heartbeat, so subjects of extensive damage die before being able to heal. Unless vampires need functioning hearts (such as those who can be staked with anything, not just wood), there's no real reason that a brain damaged vampire couldn't regenerate a physically healthy body.

Farseer Lolotea: I need to start writing my pretty-vampire stories again.  The problem is, everyone would think that they were a Twilight (which I find unreadable) knockoff, despite the significant differences (...Or So I Heard).  Even if they talked smack about Twilight. Especially if they talked smack about Twilight.

Unknown Troper: Pulled this—
** Not to mention she apparently has little problem with sunlight, and has gone outside during the day several times, albiet usually with a parasol, though This Troper recalls her getting direct exposure at one point with no ill effects. She merely dislikes sunny weather.

Remilia really does find sunlight painful and has stated before that it will burn her to ashes if she doesn't have suitable protection (like a parasol). The source for this is Reimu A's ending in Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.
