Working Title: Tuxedo And Martini: From YKTTW

Silent Hunter: I've seen characters in tuxs who clearly look like they're auditioning for Bond.

Some Sort Of Troper: Removed this section for the time being

  • This Troper would like to point out that while yes, the page quote got the fact that the martini was vodka rather than gin wrong, that was not why it missed the point. The reason that Bond orders his drink shaken is that it is quite easy to drop a drug or poison into a drink as you stir it, and when one shakes a drink, the particles that haven't quite disoved float around rather than settling on the bottom. The reason he orders his shaken is so that he can more easily see if someone's trying to poison him. This is actually showcased in Casino Royale when bond first orders a vodka martini. His first one is not ordered shaken, and he gets poisoned... Bartlett is right about the martini being watered down, but is missing the point as to the reasoning.

I've been thinking about a few interesting points about the Bond series, how Bond rarely ever actually orders the drink, Moore actually parodying Tuxedo and Martini sometimes, how the representation of his drinking habits was originally meant to come across. So I'm going to tidy up the main entry, make these points about the Unbuilt Trope and self-parody and also double check the point about the poison because I don't recall ever reading that anywhere, its not really showcased in Casino Royale and Bond does give other reasons about why he likes it shaken.
