Anon: I'm not sure who put the Vinci and Arty example up there, but Arty isn't this in the slightest. Arty borders on camp, much to the annoyance of Vinci. Though I changed the text to say Vinci, I'm not so sure he qualifies, either. It's All There in the Manual, but it's been implied that Vinci doesn't have a sense of "gay" or "straight," rather than only a very few people that he's ever been attracted to.

Guy Smiley: Can we get a page for the flip side - a straight guy who has all of the "gay" mannerisms, such as the guy from Snakes On A Plane?

Mister Six: I thought that was Ambiguously Gay but obviously not.

Licky Lindsay: I'd argue that Will of Will And Grace wasn't straight enough to have been the Straight Gay if he was the only gay guy on the show. It was being on the same show with Jack that makes him look like straight by comparison.

Mister Six: I only saw the first three or four episodes years ago, but stopped when my brain started trying to uproot from my spine as a kind of mercy killing. So if you think it's not right take it on out.

Mister Six: I totally forgot Omar was gay. Hell, I totally forgot Omar. That's almost unforgivable.

Medinoc: I have trouble in totally grasping the concept of Straight Gay as a gay stereotype. Would Justin from El Goonish Shive fit here ?

Scrounge: Probably. Nah, make that definitely. Ethan fron Shortpacked! might too... Though there's a bit of Suddenly Sexuality in there so I can't be too sure without a re-read.

Milly: Zangief is gay? Does anyone know where that is said, at all? I find it hard to believe...

Zeta: Various places. I mean, it says "Dislikes: Women" right on his profile. Also, the Japanese stereotype is big, macho, muscle men (See: Chou Aniki and Armstrong from FMA). Effeminite, girly men are all heterosexual bishounen.

Jefepato: Disliking women doesn't necessarily imply homosexuality...

Cassy: OMFG, you outed Zangief!!! More seriously, I'm not entirely convinced, I can see how Zangief partly fits the Japanese "hard gay" stereotype but there are many hetero men who hate women (and may be violent towards their girlfriends etc; hell, there are men who hate women and who rape them for that very reason!!). Suffice it to say that most gay men don't hate women. On the other hand, I'd be interested in getting clear evidence that he's gay, that'd be cool ;-).

Anonymous: The Boondocks Saints example of Smecker isn't quite a classic example. While Smecker is not flamingly gay there is the fact that he prances around crime scenes listening to opera and flirts-slash-teases Greenly rather agressively.

Twin Bird: "Very few anime examples"? What, not counting every Seme ever?
Lale: Since when is George Huang canonically gay?

B Tthe P: Yeah, I mean I know B.D. Wong is, but Huang always seemed kind of non-sexual. He hasn't really ever expressed any personal preference, except for designer suits, which does fit a stereotype.

Filby: Took this out:

  • Of course Obsidian's homosexuality is a retcon, so Mark Anreyko didn't handle a "coming out" so much as a Hand of God-style "this is who he is to me and 'up yours' if you saw him differently"

Because it's not really a retcon, at least not on Mark Andreyko's part. Obsidian was heavily implied to be gay and crushing on his friend Nuklon during his tenure on the Justice League Of America in the early '90s, and Andreyko was just running with that.

Sparkysharps: Is Glinda actually gay? Sure, I ship the everlasting fuck out of Glinda/Elphaba too, but I'm pretty sure that isn't canon...
