I don't see a reason why this can't be a real answer. Especially since it doesn't dodge the question, nor is it a particularly graceful response if it was a lie.
I'm looking for the source of this quote from Shinichiro Watanabe regarding Spike: "Did you see him die? I didn't, he seemed like he was seriously lacking some sleep." Can anyone help?

The commentators can't even manage a verbal shrug — they just stop talking until the scene finishes.
