- Considering that part of the game is being violently thrown to the ground by 250-pound, extremely strong men running at full speed, the armor is kind of necessary.
- Tell that to rugby players. I dare you.
- Football consists of lining up two teams, having them charge into each other at full speed, lining them back up and doing it again. Rugby isn't, so padding isn't as important.

- Well, it's not so much not as important as it is simply less used.
