The-Urban-Prince: It needs formating,so bare with me.....

Peteman: In Terminator, I thought humanity was winning. That was the whole point of sending Terminators back in time. They had lost the war, and were moving into desperation tactics.

Paranoid Android: You're right: every time a terminator gets sent back it's because Skynet is about to lose, which is why the resistance is then able to commandeer the time machine and send someone else back to stop it.

Tree: I've cleaned up the grammar a bit... but some of the prose needs livening up a bit. I'm happy to help if you want.

Nornagest: While I'm rather amused that John Mc Cain campaign ads show up in the sidebars for me, I think we can lose the George Bush crack under "War of the Worlds".

Pete Man: Can someone tell me about the Tau general who broke out of the mind control? I`m curious.

Roland: The commander is Commander Farsight- a rather checkered individual. He may or may not have 'broke out of' the so-called mind control and the Tau notion of the Tau'va. Certainly he doesn't believe in the Ethereal's ideology of the Greater Good. He is NOT a heroic figure- instead, he basically says that no one in the galaxy will ever work with each other, so why should the Tau show any mercy towards others?

The Urban Prince: Look give a reason before you start casually castrating the entries ok?...

alliterator: I PotHoled Rape The Dog in the description, because otherwise, the symmetry doesn't work. I hope that's okay (it still goes to Moral Event Horizon).

Austin: I recommend nuking the real life section. Because what exactly constitutes "hopeless" will vary on who you ask. Some might say a war is impossible, others will say that it's just an extremely difficult challenge. Then there are wars that are won, but whether the victory was worth it also varies on who you ask.

The Urban Prince: At the most it's subjective, but i don't think it undermines the entry.

Madam Shogun: No offense but is there a reason why people are deleting the Halo Wars quote? , If not i'm putting it back, since i think it fits this trope way more than the other 2.

Madam Shogun: Look Viv stop deleting the quote, If you have a problem discuss it here before you delete it!...sheesh people.

Peteman: I'll be honest, I don't think the Halo Wars quote works either, and it definitely should not be a front page quote.

Madam Shogun: Reason?...

The Urban Prince: *Shrugs* I have no problem with the halo quote. I always wondered why it kept being removed. The picture is fucking awesome though!!...

Unknown Troper: Axed the Real Life section, because it says, right there, at the top of the page, in the first sentence of the trope description, that a Hopeless War is being fought between a human and an inhuman enemy. Come on, people, let's exercise some basic reading comprehension, here.

The Urban Prince: It can be against other humans though, in fiction it's just more prone to being none human enemies, But Hopeless War also cover bleak wars in general. At least that was my intentions. So i'm partly ok solely to blame for not being very clear about it. My apologies.

Vote - Is the Broken Sword pic better or is the World War Z better?

The Urban Prince:: WWZ...of course...

I put it forth a jury of our peers here

Unknown Troper: Restored the World War Z image. Yeah, 40k is a setting with one hell of a Hopeless War, but a black and white image of a Space Marine holding a sword in the rain just....does not at all show that.

Viv: And shooting at zombies does? Restored to the broken sword pic.

Unknown Troper: ....yes, it does? I don't see how a single Space Marine holding a sword in the rain gets across the idea of a massive, brutal, drawn-out, long-term war.

Viv: Meh, the key idea is 'Hopelessness', not 'War'. World War II is not a hopeless war, but WWI is, inspite of WWII being longer and more intense. The guy in the pic is holding a broken sword in the rain and looks beaten, which I think conveys the idea better than shooting zombies. Reverted again.
