- On the original Battlestar Galactica, there were a number of made-up curse words that the pilots peppered their speech with.
- Similarly, on Farscape, there are a number of alien words used to great effect, such as "dren" or "frell".
Taking these out, because they fall under Pardon My Klingon.
Tabby: I seem to remember the commentaries on the Futurama DV Ds saying that the majority of Amy's swearing is real Chinese, but nothing particularly obscene or offensive.
Branfish: "In the movie Formula 51, one of the British cops refers to another as a 'fat cunt'. Apparently, the term, while not particularly complimentary, has nowhere near the insult power assigned to it in America." ~ I'm removing this, because it's not really true. Certainly most swearwords are tolerated more on this side of the Atlantic (i.e. Britain) but "cunt" is still generally considered the worst profanity there is. Indeed, from what I've seen of British and US TV, the word seems much more common in the former (especially in Scotland) than the latter.
Lawyerdude: This may not be the right place for it, but what about those situations where an innocent word in the speaker's language is inadvertently an insult or curse word in the listener's language? My example is from Hey Dude where Mr. Ernst's name is offensive to some Ruritanians, so they call him "Mr. Flabbybottom" instead.
