Won't somebody explain why emotionless girls are so damn HOT?

Would L and Near from Death Note count as male examples?

Does R. Dorothy really fit? She clearly has a very sarcastic sense of humor ("you're a louse, Roger Smith.")

Ununnilium: Ruri's the same way. They're both really more the Deadpan Snarker.

//R. Dorothy doesn't fit, because as the series goes on, we see that she's the Tin Man instead. Though arguably the audience doesn't see this at first.

Looney Toons: Agreed. How is entry this any different from The Spock and Tin Man?

Sunder the Gold: Or from Tall, Dark and Bishoujo, in Sakaki's case? Also, how the heck does Hyuga Hinata qualify as an Emotionless Girl? The girl is visibly, pitifully emotional. She doesn't keep a deadpan look like the other girls here, she cringes in fear and worry.

Lale: I originally added this paragraph: "Not necessarily also a fan of pure logic and reason like The Spock, or as compassionate under the skin as the Tin Man" to show how the Emotionless Girl is different from these characters. Someone added a comma after "Not necessarily", changing the meaning to the opposite — that a lot of Emotionless Girls are like these characters, which would make the trope redundant. Which is correct?

Drow Lord: Without the comma, definitely. On that note, took Yue off the list. I haven't actually seen most of the anime (either one), but unless she's vastly different from the manga, she's definitely not emotionless (though in her backstory she was, at one point). On the other hand, she's easily Deadpan Loli.

Sean Tucker: Since Rei is apparently the Trope Maker here, anyone mind changing the picture to one of her?
Lurker: Does Riza Hawkeye from Full Metal Alchemist count? There are a couple of occasions (once in the anime and once in the manga) when she totally loses her shit, but that's because she thinks Roy has been killed, and you're supposed to be struck by the fact that now she's upset. The rest of the time, she never cracks a smile or gets flustered or anything, she's completely deadpan. She didn't even cry at Hughes' funeral.

Taelor: I'd say Hawkeye is more of a Kuudere, as she does have emotions, she just tries her very best to not let anyone see them.

Amplt 0: I took out Narbal as an example. He doesn't fit, mostly because he's a man. I also removed the references to Micaiah and the Narbal archetype. Micaiah shows plenty of emotion. I wish whoever keeps throwing in that she's supposedly a Canon Sue everywhere Fire Emblem's mentioned would just stop. Removed the Narbal archetype because the only characters belonging to it (to the best of my knowledge) that are emotionless are male. (It's almost universally excepted that Joshua is the Narbal of FE 8, not Marisa).
Shay Guy: Something is awry. Rei Ayanami is supposed to be a deconstruction of this, right? So...why can't I identify any anime examples that predate her?

Servbot: I suspect it's Corollary 5b of The First Law of Trope Examples in action <<

Shay Guy: If so, this might be the most extreme example yet. Because if my hypothesis is right, then not only is she neither a subversion NOR a deconstruction...she may be the Trope Maker. Maybe even the Ur-Example (using the proper meaning).

Servbot: Looking at the The Other Wiki, I think El Hazard's Ifurita may have predated her by a few months, though it probably didn't have any influnce here since Eva's been in production long before then. You might be right about the Trope Maker thing if no one can think of a popular Japanese production that came earlier.

Shay Guy: Especially since the Eva manga started in December, several more months earlier. Any objections to me changing it?

"I don't have low self-esteem. I have low esteem for everyone else."
Daria Morgendorffer, Daria

Lale: The Daria quote would be relevant to The Daria or the Loners Are Freaks fallacy but not to girls who repress their emotions.

Noaqiyeum: Umm, who swapped the picture? I think I know who it's supposed to be, but that's solely based off of TV Tropes context. And given that you can't actually see her face at all, you'd have to rely on already knowing who it is to know whether she's emotionless or not, making that kind of a bad choice for a page image.

Smokie: I did, and you are right. The old pic wasn't working anymore, so I made a new one. Reverted it to the original pic again.

LEXicon712: Has anybody won that staring contest against Yuki?

Tacitus: For Halloween or April Fool's or something, someone totally needs to swap that .jpg for a .gif.

Kilyle: Does the princess from The Light Princess (by George MacDonald?) count? She's not completely emotionless - she laughs at almost everything - but the plot is based around her having no "gravity," both literally and emotionally. She can't find anything serious, can't be sad or lonely or troubled or feel love. And getting her to the point of caring for another person is how the prince manages to free her from her curse. (And if it doesn't fit here, which trope does that go under? Reminds me of unicorns who can't love and sprites who can't be brought down to earth.)
