Anonymous Mc Cartneyfan: Cut this for inaccuracy and put it here. Ed Sullivan did not invent Beatlemania. The Beatles did get a boost in popularity from appearing on Ed Sullivan, but they were popular in America for a good two months prior. And they were popular in the UK and Europe before that.

  • Elvis Presley and The Beatles got their start by appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show. The fanbases they each received afterward was legendary.

Springjack: The game mentions should be cut, as that is a separate trope: Grand Theft Auto Effect

re: this edit

Rothul: "Polling evidence (which I added) implies this statement to be rather insightful. The strikethrough and caps is only Edit War vandalism."

sessile: *facepalm*

Way to ruin the joke, dude. As it is, the statement isn't insightful but in fact rather obvious, and the initial line wasn't meant to be taken seriously to begin with.

Left here for posterity:

  • Also, Barack Obama appeared on The Colbert Report during the election. John Mc Cain didn't. Barack Obama won. Coincidence?
    • Quite probably not, though not direct causation- rather it was symptomatic of Obama's greater connection with younger adults. I THINK NOT

Rothul: I apologize for not picking up on your supposed Stealth Parody, but let's be honest here: Political vandalism of this type has been a concern on this and every other wiki, and faking such vandalism adds nothing. You did not write the original statement, you left no indication in the Edit Reason that it was meant to be a joke, and for all indications it looked like a blanket denial of a statement that, while not perhaps not earth-shattering in its insight, is accurate commentary.

sessile: I would have thought the joke of "Coincidence? I THINK NOT!" was self-apparent, but I apologize: I should have indeed put an explanation in the edit for clarity's sake. Can I put the strikethrough back now, as making the claim that a single appearance on a talk show lead to a presidential election victory is something the namer of this trope would do, is it not?

Rothul: (facepalms himself) Am I so dense as to not get the joke until it was explained to me? Yes. Yes I am. Mea culpa.

sessile: Lol - miscommunications all over the place! :D Sorry for the sarcasm, man.
