Post-Honkai Odyssey appearance

"Even if it takes me to the ends of the Deep, I will stay by your side."
"Human beings will change the world with our own will."
"After all, the only inevitable truth about humanity is that humanity's truth will inevitably change"

Bronya was a Russian orphan who was raised as an assassin since she was young. Eventually she was sent to assassinate Cocolia, a member of Anti-Entropy, but failed in her mission. Instead of killing her, Cocolia took pity on Bronya and took her to be raised in her orphanage. There Bronya was experimented on, gaining the power to use Honkai energy, enabling her to, among other things, levitate, pull her cannon and her support puppet robot Project Bunny 19C out of nowhere, and enter people's minds, but losing her emotions as a result. Later, by Cocolia’s orders, she was sent to St. Freya High School in order to spy on Schicksal.

In "A Post-Honkai Odyssey" open world, 8 years from the present, Bronya has become a video game producer and a street racer on some occasions. Despite the fame and fortune she received, she never forgot her duties and responsibilities as a warrior who protects humanity. Currently she is working as the Acting Leader of Squad 2, with Lyle Collodi and Timido Cute under her supervision; they're sent by Theresa to retrieve the members of Squad 3 after Schicksal lost contact with them during the St. Fountain mission.

  • Actually Pretty Funny:
    • In the event "Seele's Quantum Diary", a scene in the past shows Roza and Lili eavesdropping on Bronya wanting to go outside with Seele (when the outside was still dangerous for children due to wars) and they "threaten" to snitch to their foster mother... all with Roza Chewing the Scenery (or trying to, at least) while saying so and Lili only half-heartedly following along. Bronya can barely hold her laughter back.
    • In the end of ch. 12, Roza seems to understand Theresa's view that "the future is for the young"... and then goes on to say that it means they can play now and start working hard tomorrow. Seele and Lili give her exasperated looks, while Bronya lets out a light laugh.
  • Adventures in Comaland: The Extra Stage "Dilemma Dreamland" covers her journey inside her mind (accompanied by Fu Hua) after she fell into a coma following the events of Chapter 4. There, she'll try rediscovering herself and fight her inner demons.
  • Age-Inappropriate Dress: Note that Bronya is only 16 at the start of the game. Her Yamabuki Armor battlesuit, its Palette Swap Throatwort, and its alternate outfit Helena's Wings are not only midriff-baring, they leave the top half of her butt almost completely exposednote , and her Candy Demon and Techno Beats outfits basically are a pants-bra-open jacket combo.
  • Alpha Strike: Black Nucleus' ultimate skill is to immobilize the target and surround them with cannons from every side, which proceed to bombard them for heavy damage. Its boss version (Dark Bronya) has a different one where it arranges multiple portals above her with cannons inside them, which then bombard a large area.
  • Alternate Self:
    • In the Previous Era, Dr. MEI created an Artificial Intelligence called "Prometheus". The AI had an outline appearance that's similar to Bronya. In a twist, Void Archives, the 1st Divine Key, was partly made with Prometheus as its AI. This gives a deeper layer of meaning to Bronya becoming the Herrscher of Reason - Void Archives was the 1st Herrscher of the old world.
    • In "Rosemary's Floriograph" event, the event's version of Bronya used to be raised in a church orphanage ran by Schicksal in St. Fountain, before a Honkai disaster struck said city. Here, instead of Cocolia, Bronya has Joachim as her foster parent. After said Honkai disaster, she and Joachim were among the few survivors of the orphanage; when Welt Joyce of Schicksal visited St. Fountain to start the "Anti-Entropy" project, he found Bronya and chose to adopt her as his daughter, make Joachim his assistant (and Bronya's personal tutor and guardian), and turn the ruins of the orphanage into both his manor and his laboratory building. As Welt feared that Bronya might be traumatized by the disaster, he sent her to live in a neighboring city. In the event's present, after Welt's death, Bronya is brought back to his manor by Joachim to sort out the issue of his inheritance.
  • Animal Motifs: Rabbits. Her last name is similar to зайчик which is Russian for "bunny" and her twin-tail hairstyle brings one to mind.
  • Back Stab: Black Nucleus has a passive skill that increases the damage dealt if she attacks the enemies from their backs.
  • Badass Biker: The Seele event in v3.1 shows that Bronya was trained to ride a motorcycle when she was a Child Soldier. When she gains the power of the Herrscher of Reason, Project Bunny gains an alternate motorcycle mode that Bronya gets to ride in her battle against Tlaloc, skillfully dodging the monster's tentacles by driving on a holographic road, then proceeding to ram Tlaloc's head at full speed. As a playable character, she uses her bike when roaming in the Open World stages (Sakura Samsara, Schicksal HQ, and a few others), allowing you to go around faster.
  • Beam Spam: Her Herrscher of Reason powers allow her to create an immense number of beam cannons (at least in cinematics). In-game, the animation for her Ultimate shows her generating several copies of Project Bunny's shoulder cannons that continually blast a target with energy beams until the Ultimate's timer runs out.
  • Becoming the Mask: She was tasked by Anti-Entropy to follow Mei so that one day she could capture her, but by the time she enrolled into St. Freya Academy (along with Mei and Kiana), she grew genuinely fond of Mei.
  • Begin with a Finisher: In Coop Multiplayer, her Valkyrie Chariot battlesuit's Team Skill is to create a small Area of Effect that quickly fills the team's SP when they stand in it, which can also be done at the start of the battle. Valkyrie Chariot also has an Ultimate Skill that gathers enemies around with only 50 SP, so that beginning team stages with her Ultimate Skill (especially when there are a lot of enemies around) would greatly help with finishing the stage faster.
  • BFG: Most versions of her are based around Project Bunny 19C being armed with some kind of heavy artillery, usually a rocket launcher, a cluster missile launcher, or a laser cannon that fires a continuous beam. The exception is Wolf's Dawn; Bronya wields the artillery while Project Bunny 19C fights with a Pile Bunker-style lance.
  • Blinded by the Light: One of Dark Bronya's attacks (which is used as Black Nucleus' team skill) is to throw a small ball of light up, which then emits a flash of light like a flashbang that stuns her opponents (unless you turn away from her).
  • Broken Pedestal: Bronya finds it hard to forgive Cocolia after what the latter's done to hernote , and she finds Cocolia's obsession with Herrschers rather unsettling (considering she got to be friends with Mei and Wendy as well). However, she can't deny that Cocolia has been kind to her (as a foster mother) either, a feeling that her orphanage friends Rozaliya & Liliya reinforce.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Her Post-Honkai Odyssey self is more relaxed but still formal and very professional... except for the fact that she keeps taking "inspiration" from fights or dialogues around her for her video game projects.
  • The Bus Came Back: Discounting the event stories, after she was absent from the story after chapter 12, chapter 20 has her come back along with Kiana.
  • Call-Back:
    • The control chip inside her brain (that she fried in ch. 4, resulting in her coma) gets referenced in Chapter 9-EX2, as Gray Serpent invades Hyperion's system.
Gray Serpent: Remember that control switch that Cocolia left in your brain?
Bronya: That chip should be burnt out.
Gray Serpent: You're right, it no longer functions. But the pain it brought should be more permanent.
    • In the end of her side story "Dilemma Dreamland", Bronya (inside her mind) tells Fu Hua that (the ability to) enter other people's minds isn't something to be proud of. Later, when Fu Hua reappears in her mind in Chapter 9-EX2, Bronya says the same line. The twist is that Fu Hua says that she isn't the real Fu Hua, but one of her "feathers" that she left in Bronya's mind.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: In chapter 10, she expresses her disappointment towards Cocolia's actions and behavior, going so far as to slap her hand away. This, along with the Gray Serpent's attack on the Olenyeva twins, causes Cocolia to have a Heel Realization; but later, after returning from the Sea of Quanta in ch. 12, Bronya also feels guilty and concerned for doing it in the first place, realizing that Cocolia is still her foster mother who genuinely cared for her.
  • Car Fu: At the end of Chapter 11, she charges her motorcycle through Tlaloc's arms, into its mouth, and out of the back of its head, obliterating everything above its shoulders in the process. As a playable character, Herrscher of Reason's QTE and Ultimate Skill has her ramming the enemy with her bike (and, for the latter, shooting the enemy with multiple beams from multiple cannons from many sides at once), and in her "bike mode" she has a strong Spin Attack with the bike.
  • Character Development: She gets one beginning from chapter 10. She has trust issues with her foster mother, and she's used to obeying commands, so she has a problem deciding for herself; Theresa helps her with their talk, where the principal says that to grow up is to be able to decide for herself. Then, when the beast Tlaloc attacks Eye of the Deep and the Gem of Desire falls into the Sea of Quanta, Bronya decides (against Theresa's call to return to safety) to jump in as well, knowing that the gem shouldn't fall to Schicksal's hands. In ch. 11, "Joachim" puts her into tests (by throwing her into the bubble universes), trying to see how she will make her decisions to solve the problems. Eventually he concludes that she passes, and leads her way to the Herrscher Core of Reason. After she gets out of the Sea of Quanta, she goes on to make peace with Cocolia as the latter imparts her with a lesson to look after the orphanage and learn to trust and rely on her friends.
  • Charged Attack: Her artillery shots can be charged to become more powerful; her rocket launcher can fire a volley of powerful rockets, her cluster missile launcher can fire a multitude of Homing Projectiles, and her laser will do more Damage Over Time.
  • Child Soldier: She has faced the battlefield even before she became a teenager, and is coldly efficient at it. This gives her an aloof disposition that often sets Seele off.
Seele: Did you play on a swing before?
Bronya: Nyet. But I played with Avtomat Kalashnikova and Dragunova.
  • Cold Sniper: She was one in her backstory as an assassin, with a reference to the real life sniper Simo Hayha. Nowadays she's largely the same, only that she's much colder than before and she uses heavy artillery instead of sniper rifles. Literally as Snowy Sniper, with her gaining ice powers that she can use to freeze enemies.
  • Contralto of Strength: Her adult self in A Post Honkai Odyssey speaks with the same deadpan tone as the main story's Bronya, but has a noticeably lower pitch. Fittingly, when Bronya re-enters the battlefield in APHO, she takes a much more hands-on approach to combat than anything she previously displayed.
  • Cooldown Manipulation: Snowy Sniper and Black Nucleus have a skill where she can reduce the cooldown time of the whole team's Ultimate Evasion/Perfect Defense for a few seconds if she's set as the leader.
  • The Cracker: She's good at hacking through networks and security systems, and is generally computer-savvy.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Despite her lack of emotions, Bronya is still capable of dealing verbal jabs here and there, mostly towards Kiana.
  • Death Seeker: Only in one case in her backstory, where she wanted to be put in Anti-Entropy's quantum experiment, knowing that she'll "die" in the process. This was apparently so that she can meet Seele, who had undergone the same experiment and "disappeared". However, once she had her brief reunion with Seele, the latter told her to go away to stay alive, and find a way to rescue Seele from her current state.
Seele: You're my hope, Bronya. You're the bravest and strongest person I've known. You'll find a way to rescue me. Staying here with me would mean you've given up hope and chose to run away...
  • Declaration of Protection: In "Seele's Diary", she wanted to take Seele out to the closest amusement park, but the latter warned her that it's dangerous outside; she then says "I'll protect you". In other occasions she's also instinctively protective of Seele whenever the latter is feeling down.
  • Defector from Decadence: In the "Cybernet Havens" event, Alloy Bronn (Bronya's character in the event) is a legendary prodigy haxxor (Devastator-class with 791 missions under her belt, in contrast to Rita's 273 and Durandal's zero), but went AWOL and was subsequently branded as a traitor and enemy of Cyberpolis. Alloy Bronn and Theresa latter explain that Otto's policies for the Pure Society simply don't work on the Snakes, and that in order to win against them, she had to take independent action, thus going rogue alongside Theresa.
  • Deflector Shields:
    • Yamabuki Armor has a passive skill that creates a spherical barrier for the whole team (and summoned friends and/or friendly escorts, if there are any) that blocks physical damage and can explode to deal damage if the shield is broken; the shield will regenerate if no attacks hit you for 6 seconds. If she's ranked S, she can make the shield stronger. After her Augment Core upgrade, her barrier becomes even stronger with it being based off a percentage of her HP and DEF. It also "beats" and deals a small amount of damage at intervals to close enemiesnote , it buffs the character's melee physical damage and crit rate whenever it's active, and when the shield explodes, it can paralyze nearby enemies. However, it no longer automatically regenerates—to reset the shield you have to perform her QTE, her Ultimate Skill or (at SSS rank) her Perfect Defense.
    • Wolf's Dawn has a similar passive skill, but for elemental damage.
  • De-power: At the climax of ch. 12, Bronya as Herrscher of Reason ended up having her Herrscher Core taken out by Kevin, turning her back to how she was like previously. This, however, allows Welt to rematerialize himself using said core. In the chapter's epilogue, she accepts the core back from him.
  • Disc-One Nuke: Valkyrie Chariot Bronya’s QTE attack is an AOE slam attack that deals immense damage to enemies caught within it and lifts them up into the air to juggle them even further. It can also be easily triggered by stunning the opponent, which White Comet Kiana (your starting Valkyrie) can do with her normal attacks.
  • Emotionless Girl:
    • She speaks in a deadpan monotone and in a polite, direct and terse way of speaking. She's also very rational and logical-thinking, which makes her clash with the intuition- and emotionally-driven Kiana. This is due to her suffering brain damage in her backstory. While she can still feel emotions deep down, she has difficulties recognizing and expressing them; notably, this doesn't stop her from being compassionate and caring when she needs it, as seen from how she can handle and befriend Wendy with her words, and from her Heroic Sacrifice below.
    • In one Cooking with Valkyries epsiode, her methodical way of thought means that she gets confused at making tapas, as it relies on the maker's imagination and creativity rather than a fixed recipe. Rita helps her by telling her to think what she wants to eat and who she's going to share it with. Bronya thinks of Seele and that gives her an idea.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: In the "Cyberangel" video, right before she unleashed the final barrage on Tlaloc, her eyes gain a design of 2 half circles and a gear inside them; these are the same eye designs as Welt's when he uses his Herrscher powers, indicating that Bronya truly has inherited the powers of the Herrscher of Reason. In Chapter XXXII, Bronya's Next Tier Power-Up as the Herrscher of Truth has her grey irises turn lighter and pupils turn bright pink. This change sticks well into APHO's era where she has become an adult, signifying her status as a former Herrscher.
  • Expository Pronoun: In A Post-Honkai Odyssey, she has dropped her Third-Person Person speech and uses the more conventional "I" instead, which showcases her mental growth along with her physical one.
  • Fangirl: She's a big one to the plush bunny named HOMU, which is one of the game's mascots. Some of her outfits have the face of HOMU (or a silhouette of it) plastered onto them. She has been a fan even back when she was a Child Soldier and then got put into Cocolia's orphanage. The side story "Dilemma Dreamland" takes place in her dreamscape, filled with living HOMU-related characters. In the "HOMU Rush!" event, when her team is told to smash a statue of HOMU as part of the trial, she refuses, saying that she would defend the HOMU at all costs (including being beaten by Theresa). Finally, in the "Bronya's Game Studio" mini event, even though she is now in her 20s, she's still an avid fan of HOMU, despite its waning popularity during the Post-Honkai era, as it represents good memories she and her friends created during hard times.
  • Fanservice Pack: Her adult self in Post-Honkai Odyssey gains a massive bust size increase, along with Jiggle Physics and a leg-revealing dress. She’s also gotten noticeably taller.
  • First Kiss: In a supplementary comic focusing on Bronya's backstory, at the end of the Azure Waters, she and Seele share their first kiss just before Seele fades away from reality due to the (failed) experiment done on her. They insisted that it wouldn't be their Last Kiss, and Seele's technically not dead (she's just unable to interact with the world or say anything to anyone, and vice versa), which leads to Bronya and Cocolia vowing to find a way to restore her.
  • Frilly Upgrade: Using the Herrscher Core of Reason's power gives her a new suit with a big, wavy skirt.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • In "Seele's Quantum Diary", when Bronya and Seele saw a pack of motorbike riders going past them, Bronya said that she'll get a motorbike and the two can ride it to the beach. At the end of Ch. 11, she gets her Next Tier Power-Up from the Herrscher Core of Reason that transforms her Project Bunny into a more powerful form, that can transform into a motorbike.
    • In the third act of chapter 26, she has a conversation with Rita where the latter advises her to add some flashiness and elegance to her combat style to help her reputation and have more people buy her services. Her adult self in a Post-Honkai Odyssey clearly took note of this advice, as she fights a lot more gracefully, almost dancing on the battlefield.
  • Gamer Chick: Bronya is very good at various kind of games, and regularly beats Kiana and others in them, which gets referenced in multiple ways:
    • The manga typically shows her playing against the other characters and easily winning even while she's expertly preparing dessert with her other hand.
    • The Final HOMU Fantasy Raid has her practically taking over a MMORPG that she became obsessed over, with her godlike avatar serving as the Final Boss.
    • One of the dates in the anniversary event shows that this even extends to things like basketball arcade games, where she handily beats the Captain if the player picks that option, thinking it would be an easy win due to her height.
    • The anniversary summer event has her taking over miHoYo in order to realize her dream of making a HOMU-based game of her own.
    • A later summer event ("Homu RUSH!") shows her being a game streamer during her off days.
    • The "Odd Drifter" event involves the Captain, Tesla, and Seele finding her holed up inside an enormous mecha, having tapped its power core so she can play video games all day. Everyone gets sucked into playing with her.
    • In the Arcade part of the "St. Freya Fiesta" event, one of the random scenarios has Bronya playing one of the games with a huge stack of arcade credits besides her.
    • Her Alloy_Bronya avatar in Honkai Gods, which is a Lawyer-Friendly Cameo of Naked Snake, is infamous for killing two rival servers on his own, then curbstomping every contestant in the tournament without auto-aim. Her username shows up again in the Kiana Plays Honkai short comic, where Fu Hua develops a Madness Mantra swearing that she'll defeat Alloy Bron.
Bronya: The Bronya shall teach these whales and salty noobs a lesson: gear isn't everything. [...] The Alloy_Bronya shall initiate extermination protocols. There will only be one god in Honkai Gods.
    • In A Post-Honkai Odyssey, one of the in-game files titled "A scrap of paper" contains a video game walkthrough based on the Arahato anime written by username AlloyBron. It implies that Bronya is still an avid gamer and her godlike gaming skills are recognized by the public, to the point she decided to boost her career as a video game content creator or even an esports athlete. In the actual lore, however, she is now working as a video game producer after gaining work experiences with Welt's E.T. Studio and creating a videogame based on the aforementioned Arahato.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She wears her hair in twin drills until she becomes the Herrscher of Reason, at which point her hair comes down while keeping the drill-shaped curls at the ends.
  • Gratuitous English:
    • Bronya occasionally says "Yes, Captain." as Herrscher of Reason.
    • When she does her most powerful Razing Chrome Ultimate in APHO 2, she says "Final shot!" as the beams fire. She also says this with her Ultimate in the regular game as Silverwing.
  • Ground Punch: Almost all of Bronya's battlesuits have this as an attack of some sort:
    • Valkyrie Chariot's switch-in attack is to fall from above and punch the ground with her Project Bunny. Her QTE is a stronger version of this, with the punch emitting a circular energy field that deals high damage.
    • In Yamabuki Armor's Ultimate Skill, her Project Bunny will do a ground punch as the final hit of its combo attack.
    • As Wolf's Dawn, her Project Bunny may sometimes punch the ground to attack enemies, which will send them airborne.
    • Black Nucleus (both as the boss "Dark Bronya" and the playable version) slides in and punches the ground as her switch-in skill. In a variant, her QTE has her Project Bunny punch the ground with a charged cannon instead of its fist, which then releases a large explosion on the ground.
    • Some of her weapon skills will have the Project Bunny punch the ground to generate different effects. Her stealth kill in Sakura Samsara mode is also executed this way.
  • Handicapped Badass: She's one of the stronger (and more brilliant) students in her academy and her legs are crippled. Downplayed in that her thigh-high metal boots are prostheses that allows her to walk normally. By the time of APHO, though, her legs are fully exposed, implying she doesn't need the prosthetics anymore.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Around the climax of Chapter 4, she fries the bio chip inside her brain that's controlling her in order to free herself from Cocolia's control and stop herself from hurting her friends, at the cost of her going comatose. Cocolia, who saw Bronya like her own child, even begs her to stop it.
Cocolia: Are you kidding me?! That chip is supposed to be implanted inside your brain! Are you trying to kill yourself?!
  • Heroic Second Wind: At Ch. 11 stage 16, she was defeated by Seele's Split Personality. Stage 17 has Joachim waking her up in her mind, exploring parts of the strange world she's in, all while hearing the voices of the people she met in the "bubble universes". At the end of the level, she solidifes her resolve, and stage 18 has her wake up for real, ready to confront the boss again.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: In the end of ch. 12, when Welt entrusts his Herrscher Core of Reason to Bronya, she's confused, saying that there might be someone better. Welt says that it's because "Joachim" had chosen her, as she has passed his "tests" and proved herself. She then says that she was defeated (by Kevin) even with her holding it, but Welt preaches to her that she'll never "lose" if she stays true to what she truly is. He then proposes to teach her how to use the thing.
  • Holographic Terminal: A bunch of these appear near Wolf's Dawn when she uses her Ultimate Skill.
  • Hover Bot: Accompanied by Project Bunny 19c, her personal support robot that usually flies behind her. She usually hides it in Hammerspace, and she'll summon it whenever she needs to attack.
  • Imagination-Based Superpower: This is the main superpower for being the Herrscher of Reason. Her bio mentions that while she isn't as knowledgeable as Welt when it comes to weaponry and military equipments and vehicles, she knows her own Project Bunny enough that she mainly uses her power to manipulate it.
  • Improvised Platform: In a variant, Herrscher of Reason can create roads in the air as she rides on Project Bunny's bike form.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: Either played with or played straight during the 2017 event "家园事件" (which roughly translates to "Home Incident") where she attempts to strip naked and join the captain in a hot spring despite his protests. She goes as far as claiming that bathing together can save water and energy by 20% and doesn't seem to understand why taking her clothes off in front of him made him so embarrassed.
Bronya: Captain, did you know that bathing together instead of separately saves water and energy consumption by 20%, and this isn't even considering the time saved that can be used to prepare against the enemy?
  • Invisibility: Black Nucleus' Ultimate Evasion and QTE effect is to activate "stealth mode" where she's invisible to her enemies and stops drawing their aggro. This is useful for sneaking behind the enemy's back and then attacking them from behind, as well as escaping tough situations, and gives her increased speed. She'll exit the mode when she attacks (if she's charging her cannon, she won't be visible until she actually fires it), uses her Evasion move, gets hit, or switches out with her partner.
  • It's All My Fault: In the end of ch. 12, Bronya blames herself for being unable to stop Kevin (World Serpent) from going out to the real world. Einstein assures her that it's not her fault and there's nothing they could do; she points out that Bronya had saved Welt and Seele, and that is enough.
  • "Just Frame" Bonus: Dimension Breaker has an unique mechanic for Bronya's laser cannons where, after she overheats her laser, there'll be a shrinking circle near her laser's position. Pressing the attack button when the circle gets small enough will make her laser cool down instantly, allowing her to fire again immediately.
  • Lawyer-Friendly Cameo: Bronya's Alloy_BRONYA game avatar in the "Himouto BRONYA Chan" manga chapter is pretty much Big Boss in a HOMU Hat.
  • Literal Split Personality:
    • The "Dilemma Dreamland" side story (which takes place in her coma dreams) has her fight the different aspects of her: Snowy Sniper (representing her coldness), Yamabuki Armor (representing her "shielding" herself from other people), and Black Nucleus (representing the time she was controlled by Cocolia).
    • In the "Stygian Blooms" event, a side effect of Seele abducting her into Seele's inner world causes Bronya to split into 2 versions of herself: one of them (as Snowy Sniper) seems to be mentally stuck in the past, while the other (Herrscher of Reason) seemingly forgets her past and can only remember recent events.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Her Project Bunny 19c can use the shield on its right arm to protect Bronya from attacks; the Defend Command mechanic (which replaces the usual Evasion) is only used for Yamabuki Armor and Dimension Breaker valkyrie suits. If the shield button is released right after an attack is blocked, Bronya will do a Counter-Attack (different for each of her suits).
  • Mana Shield: Dimension Breaker has a passive skill (that can be toggled on or off) that reduces her damage taken at the cost of burning bits of her SP per hit.
  • Marionette Master: She has a mechanical puppet named "Project Bunny 19c" that aids her in attacks and (sometimes) defense.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Herrscher of Reason fights differently from any other Bronya: she has melee attacks as her normal attack, and her Charged Attack, which still accomodates the variations of her heavy weapons, also works differently. It only requires her to fill a special gauge (by attacking, Ultimate Evasion or QTE) and it doesn't require charging time, allowing her to repeatedly bombard the enemies with the 3rd stage of her charged shots so long as she still has units in her gauge. Her laser cannons now only shoot short bursts of lasers instead of a continuous one, and they don't overheat. She's also able to activate Ultimate Evasion's effect after being hit (the "available" time frame is short, however). Her Ultimate Skill's effect is also rather unique, consisting of her riding on her Cool Bike and evading enemies while she manifests multiple floating laser cannons to shoot enemies.
  • The Mole: She's actually an agent of Anti-Entropy who infiltrates Schicksal on their orders. She ends up betraying Kiana and Mei, but only because she is being controlled by Cocolia. Later, Bronya comes to care about Mei so much that she decides to fry the control chip inside her brain (wrecking her own brain in the process) just to break herself free from Cocolia's control. Later, in the Schicksal HQ Open World, one of Ai-chan's chats has her talk about Bronya, and in particular, how she was rumored to be a mole for Anti-Entropy; but as they're allying with AE at the time, she points out that it shouldn't matter anymore.
  • Ms. Fanservice: In APHO 2, she definitely fits the trope with her adult body, huge breasts (which have large amounts of Jiggle Physics), long hair, an alluring dress, and plenty of leg. Even when dressed in an office sweater, it can't hide just how busty she is (if anything, it makes her look even bigger), rivalling the likes of Himeko and Aponia.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Bronya's Wolf's Dawn battlesuit is based on one of her outfits from the game's predecessor Benghuai Xueyuan (aka Guns GirlZ). In a supplementary comic that takes place before the game's present, she still wears it (and her Project Bunny still has its Pile Bunker lance as its left arm, and she didn't wield a cannon yet).
    • One of Bronya's weapons is a rotary cannon that was used by a (now deceased) Valkyrie in the past, as shown in the comic.
  • Next Tier Power-Up:
    • While searching for Seele in the Sea of Quanta at the end of Ch. 11 (in the plotline animation "Cyberangel: ZERO Exception"), Bronya stumbles upon the Herrscher Core of Reason (Joachim/Welt's core) and tries to grab it, only for it to go out of control and try to assimilate her, while also being simultaneously attacked by a Tlaloc. It isn't until Seele's spirit appears before her that Bronya snaps out of it and seizes full control of the thing, granting her and Project Bunny a massive upgrade and materialization powers befitting of the Herrscher of Reason, which she gets to demonstrate by curbstomping the Tlaloc. Her bio, however, says that this is a Deadly Upgrade as it eats away at her from within (which gets confirmed in ch. 12). She cares little about it, as long as she can use it to save Seele.
    • Following the confrontation with Hare in Chapter XXXII, Bronya's powers as the Herrscher of Reason further evolve in order to face the present threats. With her own interpretation of the legacy left behind by her predecessor, Bronya ascends as the Herrscher of Truth and unlocks the full potential of her power, something her predecessors were never able to.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • Bronya gets unusually emotive at the climax of ch. 12. It could be because she was very close to Seele, or that she's trying to save Welt, or she's wanting to stop the "World Serpent" (who turns out to be Kevin Kaslana).
    • In the Dorm, if you put Bronya as Herrscher of Reason with Himeko, the latter will ask if the former is alright before Bronya goes to hug her tightly, so much that Himeko blushes despite her claiming to be a war veteran. Bronya then asks to hug her a little longer. Seeing as this version of Bronya comes to be after Himeko is killed, she's probably ovewhelmed by the sight of her teacher alive and well again.
  • Overheating: Bronya's laser cannons will overheat if used for too long, and she'll have to wait till they cool down to fire again. As Dimension Breaker, she has a passive skill that delays the overheat of the laser weapons and her Ultimate Skill allows her to continuously use laser weapons without overheating until the duration ends.
  • Outdoor Bath Peeping: A rare gender-reversed example shown in the 2017 event "家园事件" (Home Incident) where she reveals she'd been waiting at the hot spring for 3 minutes and 21 seconds before the captain arrived, took his clothes off, and got in. To his horror, he realizes that she must have seen him nude.
  • Parental Abandonment: Bronya mentions in Ch. 4 that her real parents weren't there with her when she was little. She was forced into the army and trained to become a cold and efficient Child Soldier until Cocolia found her and then adopted her.
  • Personality Powers:
    • Her stoic and cold persona befits her ice powers as Snowy Sniper.
    • As she's a rational-thinking person driven by logic, it's no wonder that she gets to acquire the power of Herrscher of Reason and be able to understand its use.
  • Pile Bunker: As Wolf's Dawn, her Project Bunny wields a huge Jousting Lance-like pile bunker as its left arm. If she attacks the enemy with uncharged shots, her Project Bunny will do a thrusting attack with it, and her Ultimate Skill has Project Bunny smash the ground with it 3 times, hitting the enemies around it with the earth spikes that jut out of the ground.
  • Plot Device All Along: Aside from her receiving it from Seele from "Imaginary Space", Project Bunny 19c otherwise looks and acts like a normal robot and has the capabilities of such. However, in ch. 11, it's shown that it can attack Quantum enemies normally when, as Joachim claims, normal weaponry would have a hard time hurting them.
  • Power Floats: While Bronya can walk using her leg prosthetics, her Project Bunny 19c allows her to float in the air, which she prefers.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: As Herrscher of Reason, her hair grows longer and looser; it's more noticeable than Herrscher of the Void as Bronya usually keeps her hair in twintails.
  • Promoted to Playable: The Dark Bronya boss of Chapter 2 became playable as the S-rank Black Nucleus battlesuit.
  • Puppet Fighter:
    • As Wolf's Dawn, her Project Bunny 19c is away from her at all times and will attack the enemies at its vicinity or if Bronya use uncharged attacks on a specific target. The enemies will try to attack Project Bunny while Bronya can shoot them from afar.
    • Downplayed with Dimension Breaker, as her Project Bunny only detaches from her if she uses her Ultimate Skill. Like in Wolf's Dawn's case, it will grab the enemies' attention for several seconds, then release an explosion and finally teleport back to Bronya.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Bronya's Black Nucleus battlesuit is mainly black with red accents (her Project Bunny also gets recolored similarly), and it represents her being controlled by Cocolia.
  • Red Baron: In the past, as an assassin, she used to be called "Silver Wolf of Ural".
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: As Black Nucleus, her eyes turn red and she becomes more dangerous and hostile. In story, it represents her being controlled by Cocolia.
  • Rollerblade Good: While it's not been shown in-game, during the cutscene where Bronya becomes the Herrscher of Reason, the feet of her leg prosthetics transform into motorcycle-like tires which she uses to skate through the tunnel of Honkai material created by Tlaloc until she can catch up to Project Bunny 19C.
  • Seeks Another's Resurrection: In one supplemental comic, her best friend Seele "died" in an experiment and she and Cocolia vowed to restore her somehow. They apparently thought Mei's powers as a Herrscher may be able to help them, which is part of the reason Bronya decided to go to the same school as Mei.
  • Sexy Sweater Girl: In APHO, Bronya wears a sweater in her CEO outfit that puts a big focus on her huge breasts.
  • She's All Grown Up: And how! In APHO, Bronya has matured into a very curvy woman whose chest rivals that of Aponia, Himeko, and so forth, when she was previously flat-chested.
  • Shield Bash:
    • Yamabuki Armor's switch-in attack is to dash towards an enemy and then bash them with the shield on her Project Bunny's hand. Her QTE is a stronger version of it that also stuns the target.
    • Wolf's Dawn has a similar switch-in attack, only that the Project Bunny detaches from her and then dashes at the enemy shield-first. Her QTE also works similarly.
  • Ship Tease: She's visibly touched and smiles after the captain tells her how much she means to him in her 2020 birthday event; her facial expression then changes to being extremely happy and caring. She also implies that he won her heart with his words.
Bronya: 40 points to 1. This time, it's the captain's victory.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: She's among the shortest of the playable cast and she has good computational skills, courtesy of the experiments she had in her younger days.
  • Shoulder Cannon: As Herrscher of Reason, she wields two BFGs at once on Project Bunny's shoulders.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: That can be double as the Badass Boast towards Gray Serpent as he proceeds to do a mental invasion on her in Chapter 9-EX2.
Gray Serpent: I know what you fear.
Bronya: Fear? Bronya lives with it since Bronya was born.
  • The Smart Girl: Or as Kiana describes her, Bronya is a "super-hacker". Chapter 1 shows that the other girls rely on her when it comes to tech-related stuff, such as decrypting the Selene battleship's system, or hacking into Anti-Entropy mechas.
  • Spread Shot: As Black Nucleus, she has an unique ability that changes how her cluster missile works; instead of homing to multiple enemies, the missiles now spread out like shotgun pellets, which is good for both hitting a row of enemies and dealing high damage to a single enemy at close range.
  • Squishy Wizard: The modification to her body allows her to control Honkai energy and use it to achieve various feats, but her body is fragile; she has among the lowest HP count of the playable characters. Subverted by Yamabuki Armor which focuses on defense.
  • Staircase Tumble:
    • In the past, this happened to her courtesy of Sin Mal, who then stomped on her legs to damage them further. When Cocolia treated her, Bronya only claimed that she was "careless", but Cocolia knew that someone like Bronya can't be that careless, and then says that Bronya could've retaliated and broke the neck of the person who had pushed her down.
    • In the "Rosemary's Floriograph" event, one of the cutscenes shows the entries of a diary presumably belonging to Joachim. In one of the entries (set in the past), he mentions that Bronya fell down the stairs and presumably was comatose for a while. The story implies that Bronya may have figured out something that she shouldn't about the experiments that were being done on her adopted brother, and being pushed down the stairs was an attempt to murder her so she couldn't leak the info to anyone. Near the climax, Bronya says that it was Gray Serpent and Raven who were responsible for the attack, leaving her unconscious for long enough to be moved to one of Shicksal's hospitals outside St. Fountain.
  • Super Mode:
    • Yamabuki Armor can enter a Burst Mode where she switches into melee combat mode with Project Bunny's powerful punches until her SP is depleted. If the enemies have the "impaired" status (whether by using her uncharged shots, team skill or some other means), the initial activation will put the enemies in a time-slowed state; when she punches the enemies in that state, she can heal the whole team with each punch. After the Augment Core upgrade, her attacks during Ultimate now drag enemies towards her and put them in a time-slowed state, and her Deflector Shield continuously regenerates in the duration. It also strengthens the heal from the shield "beats" (the "beats" themselves are faster too), and this state will stay active even if you switch her out.
    • Herrscher of Reason enters a "bike mode" where she drives around with her bike, repeatedly spawning laser cannons that spam beams at the enemies, and can also attack with the bike itself. She also slowly heals herself for as long as the mode lasts.
  • Support Party Member: Most of her suits have supportive capabilities in one way or another. There are two exceptions to this:
    • Black Nucleus has a lot of firepower, including her Ultimate Skill, which straight up deal high damage, while having little-to-no support capabilities.
    • Herrscher of Reason goes similarly, and is also the first Bronya that mainly deals (ice) elemental damage.note
  • Teleport Spam: Dark Bronya (the boss of Chapter 2) has an attack pattern where it disappears, then appears for an attack, then disappears again, which is then repeated for around 4-5 times.
  • Terrifying Rescuer: In the supplementary comic detailing her backstory, when she rescues Seele from kidnappers, Seele noted that Bronya has a scary look on her face the whole time.
  • Third-Person Person: She almost always speaks of herself in third person; the early versions of the game made this even more unusual by having her refer to herself as "the Bronya". In her side story "Dilemma Dreamland", where she (temporarily) lost her memories, she uses "I" ("watashi" in Japanese voiceover) normally until she regained her memories; in the supplementary comic detailing her backstory, she also used "I" normally. There's also a humorous moment in the dorms where Mei, after asking Bronya if she wants to join her in the library, tells her that Kiana is actually in the library studying; this apparently shocks her so much that she says "...I will go, too."
  • This Is a Drill: Herrscher of Reason's normal attack combo has her manifesting multiple drills to strike the enemies from multiple sides. Her Charged Attack, if she uses rocket launchers, will be modified to make her fire drill-tipped rockets.
  • Time Master: As Dimension Breaker, she's able to manipulate space-time to lock enemies in a time-slowed state, either in her Perfect Defense, switch-in attack, QTE, or team skill.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Project Bunny 19c was given to her by Seele Vollerei as she sent Bronya back from the place she currently is innote .
  • Upgraded Boss: The Dark Bronya boss at the end of the "Final HOMU Fantasy" Co-op Raid stages is a stronger version of her as the boss of chapter 1. There, she can utilize multiple gravity spheres that drags you towards them, create spheres that put you in Time Slow state, and uses powerful barrages of laser cannons. The explanation is that Bronya is hacking the titular game to give herself those abilities.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Downplayed; she was a cold and brutally efficient Child Soldier who nevertheless could still feel and express emotions, especially towards Seele. One of the diary entries of Seele's Quantum Diary shows that Bronya was kind to animals, too, with Seele noting that her cold gaze softens during so. The experiment done on her robbed her of her emotions (and the use of her legs), but her memories of the past (especially Seele) still remain. In the "Cyberangel" cinematic, it shows alternate possibilities of Bronya who appears happy and cheerful from childhood to adulthood, implying she is bound to be a happy person if only she had lived a normal life.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Kiana. Due to Kiana being more emotionally driven and impulsive, Bronya has a hard time comprehending the stuff she does, constantly cleaning up Kiana's mess and making sure she doesn't mess up too much. They also bicker and even fight a lot, especially when playing video games. Despite their differences, Bronya regards Kiana as the force that drives her, for Kiana's determination to do her absolute best is what Bronya likes about her the most.
  • Whole Costume Reference: As part of the collaboration event with Neon Genesis Evangelion, Bronya is granted two costumes for her Herrscher of Reason battlesuit; Ultraviolet Kinetik has a predominantly purple colour palette referencing Evangelion Unit-01, while Bestial Afterburn has elements of Asuka's Rebuild plugsuit. For both, Project Bunny 19C gets a similarly themed color change and cosmetic tweaks.
  • The Worf Effect: In ch. 22, despite her going as Herrscher of Reason, she still can't beat Hua(?), showing that Hua(?)'s Herrscher power, combined with the old Fu Hua's powers and abilities, made her "unrivaled" compared to Bronya. Bronya knows she doesn't stand a chance against her in the latter's own illusiory world, but at least she could buy enough time for her friends to make a strategy against her enemy.
  • You Will Not Evade Me:
    • Valkyrie Chariot's ultimate skill creates a black hole that sucks enemies in, deals multiple hits and (if she's ranked S) explodes at the end, dealing more damage and stunning enemies caught within. During the skill, she's invincible, and she'll stay there until the move ends even if you tag her partner in.
    • If Wolf's Dawn is ranked SSS, her ultimate skill can be modified to make the enemies get sucked in towards the Project Bunny's position.
    • After her Augment Core upgrade, Yamabuki Armor's QTE and Ultimate Skill can create mini black holes that pull enemies towards her.

Valkyrie Accipiter
Story-important battlesuits:
Phoenix
Azure Empyrea
Fenghuang of Vicissitude
"This world is ever-changing.
I have grown accustomed to parting and despair.
I have lost touch with time.
I struggle in Samsara only in the hope of achieving...
my mission."

An A-rank Valkyrie who used to be in the same class as Kiana in St. Freya Academy. She was a hardworking honor student with excellent grades, but was also shrouded in mystery. Seemingly has a connection to Archbishop Otto.

  • The Ace: Fu Hua was among the best (if not the best) of Kiana's generation at her academy in both academics and fighting skills, and she's also popular with the students. It helped that she's actually a 50000+ year old war veteran who only pretends to be a student.
  • A-Cup Angst: She's painfully aware of her lack of assets, and is irritated when someone reminds her of it, even if it's unintentional.
    • In the Moon Shadow comic, she gets irritated when "Wraith", a Schicksal spy and informant, shows off her Shapeshifting ability to give herself large breasts.
    • In the Kiana Plays Honkai short comic, Kiana gets to play Honkai Impact 3rd and remarks that like Bronya and Theresa, the Fu Hua she controls has no Jiggle Physics. Fu Hua is understandably mortified.
    • In her side story "The Forgotten", there is this exchange...
Nuwa: *making a figurine* Given your lack luster [sic] figure, I'll have to add more curves for extra seductiveness.
Fu Hua: That, girl, is a personal attack.
      Otto: Haha, interesting.
      Fu Hua: Shut up.
  • All Chinese People Know Kung-Fu: Yes, even when the game's creators are Chinese themselves. The only playable Chinese character in the game (prior to the release of Li Sushang) is a martial arts master who uses her hands and feet to smash mechas and Honkai beasts.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: In her backstory, she was shunned for being the Sole Survivor of the squad that was betrayed by the old civilization's equivalent of Himeko, who was corrupted into becoming the 7th Herrscher and had to be killed by Kevin Kaslana. Fu Hua gained the derogatory nickname of "Firewytch's Little Birdie" due to her adoration for the late Captain HIMEKO, but she continued to fight for Fire Moth anyway, eventually becoming a powerful M.A.N.T.I.S. super soldier.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: She gave this in the past towards Kallen in one of the supplementary comics. Only later on did the latter find the answer.
Your Divine Key was forged to protect the human race. Tell me, "key wielder", what is it that you fight to protect? Those who do not protect shall not realize its true power.
  • Badass Cape: As Azure Empyrea she has a long cape which is connected to her dress and splits into four strips of fabric.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: In her Night Squire suit's default costume. Said suit's bio mentions that she used to wear it for an infiltration mission in the past, and Bronya even lampshades it.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Played with when you use the option to hide her gauntlets, which gives her the appearance of using only her fists to strike opponents. As Azure Empyrea, her gauntlets are automatically hidden.
  • Been There, Shaped History:
    • Ch. 13 has Kiana run into data found inside Heliopolis building, which shows that Fu Hua once traveled to 19th century England while posing as a detective; the photo showed her alongside Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It's implied that he based his story Sherlock Holmes, on her. This gets a call back in the "Rosemary’s Floriograph" event, where she and Conan Doyle team up with Irene Adler to investigate an incident while Doyle is writing his novels.
    • Less "history" and more "legend", but in the "Empyrean Legends" event, when Fu Hua tells a story to Kiana about the legend behind the Chinese New Year, Azure Empyrea takes the place of the mysterious man who got rid of the monster called "Nian" which terrorized the village every New Year. In the original legend, the mysterious man makes banging noises to get rid of the Nian, which were presumed to come from firecrackers; in the event, the banging noises actually come from her assault rifle (that Book of Fuxi gives her), and in the spring festival, Rozaliya makes firecrackers to substitute for the "banging" noise source.
  • Bifauxnen: She's quite handsome in the Night Squire battlesuit. Lampshaded in one scene in "St. Freya Fiesta" event, where the Captain and Theresa suspect that Himeko looks like she's dating a guy... only to find out that the "guy" is Fu Hua in her Night Squire outfit.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • In the past, Schicksal's army had an edge against the soldiers of Ming Dynasty until she appeared to the latter's aid; she, as "the immortal guardian of China", easily took down Schicksal's army by herself. She even managed to defeat Kallen, Schicksal's best warrior, even as the latter came armed with the Oath of Judah.
    • In chapter 15, when Kevin appears in front of Kiana and attempts to attack her, Fu Hua separates herself from her and tries to hold him back as she tells Kiana to run away. As Fu Hua is far from her full power, she exhausted herself, leaving her "feather" on Kevin's hands.
  • Bio-Augmentation: She's one of the "MANTIS" soldiers from the Previous Era, who received the ICHOR augmentation from Dr. MEI, empowering her to be able to safely fight Honkai threats; this also gave her functional immortality as it keeps her cells from natural decay. Additionally, she also got the subliminal hypnotic treatment called "SWARA"note  that empowered her physical strength and neural responses, and allowed her body to adapt to Honkai energy more easily. She would then pass this treatment, which she called "Blade Mantra Swara" to her disciples in Mount Taixuan; as "Blade of the Empyrean" comic shows, this allowed normal humans to be empowered against the Honkai, but in MEI's words, people with the potential to be empowered by SWARA is harder to find than potential MANTIS subjects.
  • Boring, but Practical: In the "Empyrean Legends" event, she (as the "Celestial") is armed with a simple assault rifle, which fires rapidly, has good range, and doesn't interfere with her movement. Her Ultimate Skill is an aimable bomb that deals the most damage out of all bombs, as it leaves burning flames on the ground that deal further damage. The other characters have special gimmicks to them, but the Celestial has reliability and ease of use.
  • Born Unlucky: Played for Laughs in the Kiana Plays Honkai short comic. Her RNG luck is atrocious, so much so that she doesn't have any S-rank battlesuits in her team (something which Kiana, having just pulled an S-rank Lightning Empress Mei, taunts her over). Despite working several different jobs (and thus having more than enough money to sink on Honkai Impact 3rd), the gacha simply won't drop the Shadow Knight battlesuit for her... at least until Kiana accidentally trips on the Ai-pad and pulls it from the gacha. From then on, Fu Hua starts stalking Kiana in a mad bid to help her with RNG.
Kiana: [giggling] I just realized that you don't have any starting-[S] battlesuits in your team. What did you do? Piss off the devs?
Fu Hua: *slaps Kiana across the face* Enough! You will not laugh at my waifus!
  • Brick Joke: Shadow Knight's Blood Voivode costume gives her a vampiric theme. This comes from a throwaway line in ch. 13 where Kiana calls her an "immortal vampire" as the former discovers the data of Fu Hua living in the past centuries.
  • Broken Pedestal: Fu Hua was very loyal to Otto and even considered him as a friend to the point of going along with his plot to Mind Rape Kiana and awaken the Herrscher of the Void. However, during Chapter 9, he informed her that he never had any intention of saving Kiana from the 2nd Herrscher and that the possibility of at least one of her friends dying (not to mention all the innocent lives already lost, which she took great issue with) was all within his plans. At that moment, Fu Hua realized how truly insane and uncaring he was, the revelation shocking her to the point that she briefly went Laughing Mad. In a later chapter, she tells Kiana that she had put her trust in the wrong person.
  • Brought Down to Badass: Fu Hua was a powerful immortal being and a One-Man Army who defeated Schicksal's forces and its strongest Valkyrie Kallen all by herself when they waged war in China 500 years ago. Many years later, because of her disciples betraying and attacking her then her losing more of her memories during the Second Honkai War, she lost most of her power and turned into a normal human, and needed Otto's help to protect China in exchange for working for Schicksal. She entered St. Freya Academy as an A-rank Valkyrie though her ability is on par of an S-rank. She gets brought down even further when she loses the last of her powers fighting off the Herrscher of Sentience, but there is little difference in gameplay and she is still powerful enough to get sent to deal with any threats that come up along with Kiana and the others.
  • Casting Gag: Minami Takayama was popular for voicing Case Closed. Here, her character (Fu Hua) gets a battlesuit themed after a Private Detective (Hawk of the Fog), and she apparently went around in 19th century England in that form as the assistant of Arthur Conan Doyle, the inspiration for Detective Conan.
  • Character Development: A small but significant one over the course of the story. Chapter 20 reveals that long ago, she used to be rather ruthless when it comes to fighting Honkai threats, with her motto of "no mercy for the corrupted". Even in the present, she gets to beat up Kiana in the "Moon Shadow" manga and in ch. 6 of the game when the latter shows signs of Honkai corruption i.e she starts awakening as a Herrscher. In ch. 11-EX, even after realizing her mistake (being duped by Otto to bring Kiana to him, so he can awaken her fully as a Herrscher), she still advises Kiana on not confronting the Honkai at all as she doesn't want Herrscher of the Void to be awakened again. But when Kiana is Driven to Suicide to stop the Herrscher inside her, Fu Hua instead stops her, even though it'll be in line with Fu Hua's old "philosophy", as Fu Hua cares enough for her and Himeko's wishes for her. So Fu Hua chooses to help Kiana in her whole "mission" as much as she can, primarily by assisting her in controlling the latter's Herrscher powers.
  • Class Representative: She used to be one in Kiana's class.
  • Combat Medic: Valkyrie Accipiter, while doing the least damage out of Fu Hua's battlesuits, has some ways to heal herself, and one of her Ultimate Skills can heal the whole team by a certain amount. In co-op plays, her team skill is to drop HP-recovery items for the team.
  • The Comically Serious: In the event stories, she still acts seriously even in more lighthearted situations, which is often pointed out.
  • Consummate Professional: Fu Hua, for the most part, is a disciplined and straight-laced person who takes most things seriously and will try to give her all in what she does. This puts her at odds with the more easygoing Kiana.
  • Cool Mask: When Shadow Knight enters her Super Mode, she wears a metallic mask. Her boss version wears it at all times.
  • Criss-Cross Attack: Valkyrie Accipiter's augmented form has one special combo where she zigs and zags in the air, hitting multiple enemies in a small area multiple times, before landing with a Ground Punch. During the move she's also completely invincible, even to the Abyss' health drain.
  • Damsel in Distress: In chapter 22 she's basically held hostage by Hua(?) as the latter holds the Fenghuang Down feather that stores her consciousness. Kiana resolves to save her from Hua(?)'s grasp and take Fu Hua's body back, despite Fu Hua warning her that Hua(?) is too dangerous.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Chapter 20 is basically "Fu Hua: the Backstory". While glimpses of her past have been shown in "The Forgotten" stages and some parts of the comics, this chapter goes to detail it, and Kiana and Bronya get to see them. Back then, over 50,000 years ago, Fu Hua was just a normal teenage girl from China who left her hometown to go to school in the city of Sapphire. She was incredibly shy and struggled with fitting in. Although she made some happy memories with a close friend, her whole life changed when the Honkai destroyed nearly all of East Asia. She was then taken in into Fire Moth, the anti-Honkai organization, by the Previous Era's Himeko, who became her mentor. Himeko would then become the 7th Herrscher, devastated Australia, and killed many of her comrades before being killed herself, leaving Fu Hua as the only survivor. She then volunteered to become one of the MANTIS augmented warriors under Dr. MEI. The experiments turned her into The Ageless and a powerful anti-Honkai warrior; when the humanity of Previous Era eventually lost to the Honkai, she was sent into cryosleep and then re-emerged in the current era. She was put in charge of Project EMBER which aims to teach the current humanity about the Honkai threats and give them knowlege of Previous Era, but after several resurgences of powerful Honkai Beasts which killed her only friends (Fuxi and Nuwa), she ceased the project and moved on to become the "guardian sage" of Shenzhou.
  • Deadly Lunge: One of Shadow Knight's and Night Squire's combos ends with Fu Hua doing a shoulder charge attack. One of Azure Empyrea's attacks is a very fast dashing strike that hits all enemies in a line, that causes every enemy that gets hit to take more elemental damage for 6 seconds.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Hawk of the Fog has a variety of powerful attacks, but maximizing her damage will require you to use them cleverly and to master the evade-ultimate (holding the ultimate button after a time fracture dodge) by placing it at the right times so as to not run out of SP. Thus, using her to her full potential requires quite a bit more skill than for other Valkyries, especially if you use her with the Zhangheng B stigmata, which gives her a massive damage boost, but only for two seconds after a perfect dodge and if the combo count is below 20, leaving very little room for error.
  • Disc-One Nuke: Fu Hua's Night Squire battle suit is a powerful A-rank Bio-type attacker that is simple to acquire and upgrade (by farming her fragments). The twist is that even in late-game, with the proper equipment she's still quite viable.
  • Dope Slap: In the "Empyrean Legends" event, she (as "Celestial") often does this to Book of Fuxi whenever the latter says insensitive things, to the point that the ELF complains that she's getting a brain hemhorrage.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: Hawk of the Fog has a new Ultimate Skill (that can only be done after one of her combos, or after Ultimate Evasion) where she briefly splits herself into 5, surrounding the target, before all of them strike the target at the same time, dealing heavy damage and paralyzing anyone caught in range.
  • Double Agent: Chapters 6 and 7 reveal that Fu Hua was sent to St. Freya Academy as Otto's spy, and that she brought Kiana to Schicksal HQ on his orders, as she's going with his plan to awaken the Herrscher within Kiana and then making her controllable. However, she also cares enough for her friends and Theresa (and the 2nd Herrscher threatening people in general, which she didn't expect to happen) that she at least ordered Rita to just imprison Himeko and Tesla, and later went to fight the Herrscher of the Void in order to buy time for Bronya to escape with Mei and Theresa.
  • Dramatic Irony: In one of the flashbacks in ch. 20, when Fu Hua's old friend (represented by Carole) told her that she had "too many memories" of their hometown that she wished to travel the world to find another good place to live, Fu Hua said that she treasured her memories greatly and wouldn't like to give them up. Many years later, one of the problems of her living very long is that her many memories started to overload her brain. She was too attached to her memories that she was reluctant to use her Fenghuang Down to excise them out of her head, but eventually, she did just that, because she had to.
  • Dub Name Change: Downplayed in the Japanese version. Fu Hua is called "Fuka", which is simply the onyomi reading of Fu Hua (符华).
  • Exposition of Immortality: In the dorm, she occasionally mutters to herself about Xuanyuan and Shennong (characters from thousand years past), as well as remarking that Nuwa and Fuxi (revered figures of ancient China) look different in the history books. That's because she has indeed lived that long—much longer than anyone else, in fact.
  • EX Special Attack: Night Squire has "special combos" that are done by using different button combinations in her combos instead of just one. The third strike of each special combo will consume one stock of the special gauge (which is replenished with the third strike of her "normal combos") to become stronger; they can be done with the gauge depleted, but they won't give extra effects.
  • Extreme Doormat: Somewhat. She's better described as "obedient", as early as her younger days where she has always been following the advice and orders of others, such as her own father, Dr. MEI, Kevin, and eventually Otto. She also rarely (if ever) thinks for herself or her future, as she says to her old friend in a flashback. She's so determined in fulfilling her duty as a Pioneer (appointed by MEI) despite her suffering from it, that Fuxi and Nuwa pitied her and "betrayed their purposes" to try to make her stop and forget her duties; when the twins died later on, their ELF Book of Fuxi later tried to do the same, but to no avail. The one time she made a significant choice in her life is when after the Previous Era Himeko saved her from a Honkai disaster, Fu Hua demanded the truth about the whole disaster and its nature from her. One way or another, it led her to join the Fire Moth, and the rest is history as it gave her a new direction in life.
  • Eye Color Change: Her eyes change color to red as Phoenix. This also happens when she comes back a little… different after her resurrection in chapter 20.
  • The Fog of Ages: Since she's 50,000 or so years old, she remembers little about her past aside from her duty to guard the sacred land. It's shown in her side story "The Forgotten", where she and Otto try exploring her past memories, which are mostly fragmented, with the only "accessible" parts being those few she can muster to remember. In the "Empyrean Legends" event, it's also implied that there's some truth to the "folklore" that she tells Kiana, or at least to the "Celestial" (Azure Empyrea) that stars in it. In the end, the camera focuses on a baseball-sized yin-yang orb on a nearby table, which presumably belonged to Book of Fuxi (her old companion). Chapter 20 reveals that she has deliberately had many of her memories removed with Fenghuang Down in order to stay sane, otherwise remembering everything in her long life would destroy her mind.
  • Foil: Serves as one in many different ways to Kiana, checking off a decent number of the common foils. Thematically they share many motifs, while also typically embodying opposing ones. The most obvious example being the contrast between their respective Godsbane battlesuits, with both battlesuits having similar functions, but Kiana's focusing on ranged firepower, while Fu Hua's centers around melee combat. With Knight Moonbeam symbolizing moonlight, while Shadow Knight represents the moon's shadow.
  • Gamer Chick: Fu Hua sees gaming more as a challenge to better herself, which is referenced in various events. She ends up seeing Bronya as her rival of sorts. In a flashback in ch. 20, back in her time in her previous school, her old friend (represented by Carole) is shocked by how talented she is at arcade games; Fu Hua says that her father never allowed her to play in the arcades before, and that she simply followed the "instructions" the games tell her, showing that her martial arts training builds her coordination and reflexes to be useful in playing games.
  • Gathering Steam: Phoenix has a special red bar above her SP gauge. The more it's filled, the stronger her fire attacks become, and it's filled by alternating her combo moves.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: When Kiana manages to control Herrscher of the Void's power by her own will, Fu Hua is impressed. But then Kiana cries, saying "if only I can do this sooner..."Spoilers! Fu Hua then tells her that her late teacher wouldn't like it if she keeps wallowing in regret and grief, and hoped for Kiana to live happily and move forward. This gets Kiana to pull herself together.
  • Good-Times Montage: The final unlockable scene of ch. 20 shows photos of her younger years in various situations where she lived a happy teenage life. Then the photos get burned into nothing. It's in reference to how Fu Hua treasured her memories so much, but she had to leave them behind with Fenghuang Down.
  • Ground Punch: All versions of Fu Hua (except for Phoenix and Azure Empyrea) have a similar attack for their normal switch-in and QTE: she falls from above striking the ground with her fist. Her different suits give different effects to the QTE attack.
    • Valkyrie Accipiter does this in two of her special combos (which also double as her Ultimate Skills if you hold the button).
    • Shadow Knight does this in one of her special combos, and her Ultimate Skill. During her Super Mode, it also creates an Area of Effect that increases her lightning damage against enemies within.
  • Harmful Healing: In the "Empyrean Legends" event, the "Celestial" cures Ai-chan from the "crystalium" poisoning by doing a heavy blow to her back, causing Ai-chan to vomit tainted blood. She becomes better after that.
  • Healing Factor: As part of her MANTIS augmentation, she can heal through any injuries given enough time. Heavy head trauma, though, will considerably weaken it, which happened twice: once when she was betrayed and murdered by her old disciples (around 500 years ago), and once when Otto shot her in the head with the copy of Judgment of Shamash (in ch. 9). In the first case, she took around 20 years to fully recover, and she also lost a good deal of her powers after that; in the second, she recovered quicker with Otto's help, but for one reason or another, her mind took a turn for the worse.
  • Hermit Guru: Azure Empyrea is presented as this, a "Celestial" who spends her time meditating apart from other people and only goes out to defend the populace from threats such as monsters. The event "Empyrean Legends" chronicles her deeds as a story told by Fu Hua to Kiana (in a comical way).
  • Hero-Worshipper: She has a lot of respect for Himeko, who is her teacher. One of the supplementary comics shows that it went for longer than it seems: In the previous advanced civilization, she was one of the few survivors of a Honkai outbreak, before she was taken in by the era's version of Himeko, to become a MOTH soldier and learn how to fight back the Honkai. Some time later, Captain Himeko became the Herrscher of Flame and then was killed by Kevin. Fu Hua's desire and determination to work her hardest for her (late) captain was partly what allowed her to activate the ICHOR injected into her and use its powers, and transform a replica of the Xuanyuan Sword into a weapon more fitting for her: Grips of Tai Xuan, one of the Divine Keys in the game.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In ch. 31, her sim in the Elysian Realm willingly uses Fenghuan Down at its Level 1 output to strike at the Herrscher of Corruption, eliminating herself in order to damage the Herrscher's ability to gain information from the sims' data in order to "become" Elysia and gain control of the Kevin Killer Mk. 666.
  • Hidden Disdain Reveal: Chapter 20 reveals that she secretly resented Dr. MEI for indirectly ordering the death of her old captain Himeko (whom Fu Hua thought can still be saved, even though she has become the 7th Herrscher), for her ICHOR experiment that took several casualties, and for ordering her to help the people of the current era (when living for very long took quite some toll on her mind). She still did her duties, but while Fu Hua eventually comes to understand why they have to be done, said hidden resentments surface when "Hua(?)" is resurrected.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: As Azure Empyrea, her right eye is covered by her hair. It enhances her air of mystery.
  • High-Class Glass: Valkyrie Accipiter's augmented version has two variants, Hawk of the Fog and Hawk of the Yard. The only difference between them is that Hawk of the Fog comes with a monocle.
  • Hypocrite: During Chapter 21, when Hua(?) states that wars between humans has caused nearly as much death and destruction as the Honkai, Fu Hua tells her that wars are a part of nature and necessary for the development of civilization, while Honkai go against it, being that the reason why they must defeat the Honkai. She says this despite the universally-known fact that Honkai are pretty much the universe's counter-reaction to civilizations' progress. This somewhat paints Fua Hua in a much shadier light: she will protect the world from all threats of Honkai nature, but, for all her power and knowledge, will not lift a finger to stop wars or overall suffering caused by humans, unless it involves her land.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Out of options, and running out of time, Fu Hua uses her connection to the Herrscher of Sentience to steal power from the latter in order to regain her former strength for a moment in order to free hostages from the Herrscher of Dominance. She's not proud of it, as she does see the Herrscher as her own person and would have preferred to do so with her consent, but she goes through with it nonetheless. The Herrscher is understandably furious with her for this and closes their connection completely once the dust settles, leaving the Core of Sentience within Fu Hua inert.
  • I Have Many Names: Part of her living very long is that she goes with a slew of different names. In the Previous Era, she was simply called "Hua", in the new one she has also been known as the Celestial, Empyrea, Phoenix, "Watson", and of course, Fu Hua.
  • Invocation: In the "Shattered Samsara" video, as she helps Kiana using the Edge of Taixuan: Eminence against their opponent Herrscher of Sentience, the two Speak in Unison:
"It is the origin of change, the impetus behind creation, and cannot be restricted by forms. It is the Edge of Taixuan's Eminence!"
  • Injured Vulnerability: Two pieces of the Fu Hua Musician Stigmata set enhance the user's attacks on enemies that are ignited or "firebranded" (a debuff specific to Phoenix). The T version lets the user deal AOE damage on the aforementioned enemies every 3 seconds, while the B version increases the user's total damage on them.
  • Journey to the Center of the Mind:
    • It's implied that this happens in Bronya's side story "Dilemma Dreamland" where she appears inside Bronya's mind, trying to help Bronya fix her mind. Before this, we're treated to the scene of Fu Hua's hand over the unconscious Bronya's head, then it cuts to black while white feathers fall down, before it cuts into the inside of Bronya's mind with Fu Hua in it. Chapter 9-EX2 has her reappear inside Bronya's mind, now in her Phoenix outfit. She reveals that she isn't the real Fu Hua, but rather one of her "feathers" that she left inside Bronya's mind, through the power of her personal Divine Key, "Fenghuang Down" (the hair ornament that ties her ponytail).
    • Later on, she appears again in ch. 11-EX, now inside Kiana's mind. This time, she mentions that she has used Fenghuang Down's Zeroth Power, which puts the entirety of her consciousness into a feather that is now bonded with Kiana (meaning that it's now the real her, not her "feather copies"). She did so in order to watch over Kiana and prevent her Herrscher self from resurfacing, out of guilt of what she had done towards Kiana and because Himeko believed in the white-haired girl, but she can only do so much for around 3 months because Kiana refused to talk to her, thinking of her as just an illusionnote . It's not until Fu Hua tries to prevent her from taking her own life that Kiana starts opening herself to her, allowing her to help Kiana fight Sirin inside her mind, suppressing Sirin in the end. Fu Hua mentally says that if the worst case happens, she has to end their lives together; she can only mentally apologize to Kiana.
    • In ch. 13's side story, Fu Hua recreates a scenery of her homeland inside Kiana's dream using Fenghuang Down's ability. It's part of Kiana's training with Fu Hua inside her dreams; while Kiana wouldn't necessarily remember everything in the dream when she wakes up, she will build her muscle memory that way. Fu Hua also creates the enemies for Kiana to fight; the former mentions that getting hit by them will make her real body experience pain as well. Time also goes slower in this fabricated dream, so that Kiana can train for as long as she wants.
  • Kamehame Hadoken: Valkyrie Accipiter's special attack button lets her throw out up to 3 energy shots out of her palms. It can be charged to make her throw out a stronger one that pierces through enemies, but it'll cost 25 SP. As its augmented form, however, it changes into her swinging her hand to shoot out a lightning-element Sword Beam-like attack (up to 2 times) that she can follow with a Dash Attack towards the target, letting her continue the combo at melee range.
  • Lap Pillow: The setup for the "Empyrean Legends" event is that Kiana's overeaten and has a bad stomach ache; to distract her from the pain, Fu Hua tells her a story which becomes the event. The introductory animation has a scene with the girls on a couch, Kiana's head on a pillow in Fu Hua's lap.
  • The Last Dance: One scene in chapter 22 has the narration says that she's ready for a "martyr's death" as she feels that she has little power left. She then sadly says "I'm sorry". In the "Shattered Samsara" video, she eventually uses the last of her power to seal the Herrscher of Sentience together with her into a Fenghuang Down feather while the Herrscher and Kiana are having a Beam-O-War. Kiana, however, can't accept that someone had to sacrifice herself for "so-called victories" (just like what happened to Himeko), so she "dives" into the feather using her void powers to pull Fu Hua back out. In the end, Fu Hua's back on her body as the Herrscher of Sentience "leaves" it.
  • Letting Her Hair Down: Night Squire's Rustic Noir alternate costume has her hair flowing loose instead of being tied to a low ponytail.
  • Living Relic: She, Nuwa and Fuxi are three of the last survivors of the Previous Era, the human civilization that was destroyed 50,000 years ago by the Herrscher of the End. They had been put to sleep and then awakened 5000 years before the events of the story. The events of the Elysian Realm story expand on this, going into some detail about her time as a MANTIS and member of the Flame-Chasers before she entered hibernation.
  • Martial Medic: In the "Sanka Saga" event, the event's version of her is currently working as a traditional doctor. She used to be a martial arts teacher, but she became disillusioned when her disciples went on to do bad things with the stuff she taught them. She heals Kasumi's injuries by beating her body on the right spots.
  • Meaningful Appearance: Valkyrie Accipiter, compared to the other "Valkyrie" suits, has a few traditional Chinese touches to it, referring to her country of origin.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter:
    • Fu Hua's Ultimate Skill button is replaced with a "special attack" button. Her extra attacks are done by pressing said button either by itself, or after her normal combos. She still has Ultimate Skills, but they're done by holding the button. Due to this, her Ultimate Skills also have no cooldown, although the only Fu Hua battlesuit that can enjoy this naturally (i.e without the need to increase the max SP stat) is Valkyrie Accipiter, because her Ultimate Skills cost only 25 SP and so she can spam them easily. Hawk of the Fog (V. Accipiter's augmented form) takes this further, where her Ultimate Skill can only be performed after one of her special combos, or her Ultimate Evasion; doing the latter on reaction can be tricky, but if you master it, it can deal some huge damage in a single hit, particularly with good supports.
    • Phoenix's awakened counterpart, Azure Empyrea, adds the "yin and yang" mechanic. It's based on the Ba Gua (Eight Trigrams): yin represents "broken lines", and yang represents "unbroken lines"; there are 8 possible combinations when you put them in a 3-lines pattern. There are three empty circles above her HP bar that are filled with either white (yang) by the normal attack button, or black (yin) by the special attack button; you can mix-and-match the buttons to create different color patterns. After all three circles are filled, holding the basic attack button will do one of three different attacks, depending on whether the circles are all black, all white, or a combination.
  • Mental World: In ch. 20, in a flashback, she uses one of Fenghuang Down's "higher powers" by focusing her entire consciousness into a single point, causing her to enter a "mental dimension" where she can sense other people's consciousness from a distance. As she was in the Fire Moth's base, she sensed Kevin, the dying Sakura, and the 12th Herrscher, who sensed her and sent Quantum Shadows to attack her.
  • Mind Manipulation: She's commonly associated with the 8th Divine Key, Fenghuang Down. Its ability is to manipulate the mind of others in all sorts of ways: putting her consciousness inside people's mind, making them stop perceiving time for a moment, creating dreamscapes, and so on. As shown in ch. 20, she once used it to cure the people in the Fire Moth base from the Herrscher of Corruption's mental hijacking. In ch. 22, even after she's reduced to an "apparition" after she uses Fenghuang Down's Zeroth Power, she can use its power to mess with Hua(?)'s own illusionary world, by making the Otto illusion that Hua(?) made "defy" her will.
  • Morality Chain: Without someone to bring out the "humanity" in her, she could be a stoic, unfeeling and ruthless individual driven solely to protect the land from the Honkai without paying heed to the people around her due to her immortality. Previously, that someone was Book of Fuxi, who kept reminding her to be more sociable; in the present, that someone is Kiana, whose carefree attitude and interactions with her bring out various kinds of emotions and feelings of caring from within her. In ch. 20, it's implied that Kiana has a big impact on Fu Hua's life; in the last "memory feather" of Fu Hua that Kiana enters, she meets Fu Hua's disciples, who separately claim that their master had finally found the one person she actually cares about, and that "it's easy to keep someone from dying, but hard to convince someone to keep on living".
  • My Death Is Just the Beginning: In Chapter 9, Otto seemingly shoots her dead with a replica of Judgment of Shamash. Later, she shows up as a ghost (in her Phoenix outfit), guiding Himeko to get the Vermilion Knight battlesuit stored in Helheim Labs, in order to gain an edge against Herrscher of the Void and halt Otto's plans. After thanking Himeko for all of her teachings and wishing farewell, she vanishes for good. It's implied (retroactively, from the reveal in ch. 9-EX2) that this ghost is just one of Fu Hua's "feathers" instead of the real her, but the trope is still in play as the real Fu Hua was shown "dropping feathers" onto Himeko when the latter was unconscious. Ch. 21 reveals that she used Fenghuang Down's Zeroth Power to allow herself to "escape" from her own body when she was in the verge of death, and she later attached herself to Kiana.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She is clearly not happy with her role in the Herrscher of the Void's awakening.
  • My Skull Runneth Over: One of chapter 20's flashbacks shows that a side effect of her MANTIS augmentation is that it keeps her brain cells alive and intact, so she won't be able to forget anything unlike normal humans. In her earlier years after she woke up in the current era, she got increasingly severe headaches because she had remembered a lot of things up to that point. Fuxi told her that Dr. MEI gave her Fenghuang Down so that she can excise her memories safely, but at that point she hadn't done that yet, because she still felt attached to her younger self, and feared that she'd be "losing herself" if she excises her memories away.
  • Odd Couple: Is often paired up with Kiana in event storylines and they tend to have this dynamic going on.
  • Parasol of Pain: The third strike of Azure Empyrea's normal combo is to strike her enemy twice with her parasol. She also poses with it in her Victory Pose.
  • Parental Substitute: Played with. Some hundred years ago, Lin Zhaoyu and later Su Mei (two of Fu Hua's disciples) had their parents killed by her when they were younger, because their parents were "corrupted". She took them under their wing to not just teach them how to fight the Honkai, but also to raise and take care of them. Su Mei refused to think of her parents' murderer as her new parent, though she did acknowledge Fu Hua as her master.
  • The Phoenix: One of her Valkyrie suits is simply called Phoenix. It lets her manipulate fire in her attacks and her Ultimate Skill with it is to briefly turn into a fiery phoenix and then crash to the ground to create a big blast of fire.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair:
    • Inverted; she used to have white hair during her days as Jingwei (the basis of her Phoenix battlesuit) 5000 years ago. When she lost most of her powers, her hair turned grey.
    • Played straight in one of Night Squire's costumes in which her hair turns light pink similar to Phoenix's when she activates her Ultimate.
  • Power Fists: Unlike the other Valkyries, Fu Hua in all of her variants fights with only punches and kicks, and thus her weapons are gauntlets that give her various abilities depending on what she's equipped with, with some gauntlets being tailored to particular battlesuits.
  • Power Glows: If she has enough SP to perform an Ultimate Skill, her hands will glow to indicate it.
  • Private Detective: "Hawk of the Fog" (Valkyrie Accipiter's augmented version) is apparently based on the guise she takes while traveling abroad at the end of the 19th century as a detective. She appears in the "Stygian Blooms" event, going with the Captain to solve the mystery regarding Seele and the girls that she abducted. She later also appears in the "Apocalypse Scandal" mini-event (whose story is based on a Sherlock Holmes story "A Scandal in Bohemia") and the following event "Rosemary’s Floriograph" where she acts akin to Watson as "Conan Doyle" becomes the POV character.
  • Pro-Human Transhuman: As the immortal that guided humans to create civilisation anew and guarded a sacred land (China), people revered her (well, Jingwei) as a goddess.
  • Rapidfire Fisticuffs: One of Shadow Knight's special combos in her Super Mode is to throw lightning-fast punches at enemies. In a variant, one of Night Squire's special combos has her doing a flurry of kicks.
  • Single-Use Shield: In the Elysian Realm, her Nexus Signet ("core buff") gives your character "Resolve", a "shield" that negates damage of one hit and then dissipates; the shield can regenerate once every 10 seconds (can be shortened with one of her enhanced buffs) and can stack up to 6 times. If the damage is negated by the shield, your character won't lose the stacks of her normal buffs that are normally lost by getting hit. Her personal item, also called "Resolve", when equipped, allows you to begin each battle with 1 Resolve stack and gain temporary invincibility whenever the shield negates an attack, so that your character won't lose the shields too quickly with repeated attacks. One of her enhanced signets also allows your character to start battle with a few more Resolve stacks, while another one speeds up the stack gains of her normal buffs according to the stacks of Resolve you currently have.
  • Serious Business: In the Dating Sim event's date scenes with Fu Hua, she takes "getting high scores in arcade games" seriously as part of her training.
  • Sharing a Body: This is her fate as shown in ch. 11-EX. With Fenghuang Down's Zeroth Power, she has bonded her soul to Kiana's, meaning that she'll stay within Kiana up until her death. This is done in order to keep watch over Kiana and her Herrscher side. As shown in ch. 14, this has the side effect of Kiana being (involuntarily) able to access Fu Hua's memories in her dreams.
  • Shoryuken: A part of one of Valkyrie Accipiter's special combos has her do a jumping uppercut.
  • Shrinking Violet: During her youth in the Previous Era, she was shy and not particularly sociable, having little outside of her martial arts. Even in the Elysian Realm, her sim (replicating her as she was during her time in MOTH) shows a rather meek and not-very-confident personality, not helped by the fact she was the youngest of the Flame Chasers. This contrasts with her current, austere but determined character, forged by thousands of years of experience.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Played with. While she is smart and wears glasses, those glasses are actually high-tech Schicksal equipment; her eyesight is actually normal, and two of her Valkyrie suits don't include them.
  • Soul-Sucking Retail Job: In the "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue ending of the "Cyber Haxxor" event, her Shadow Knight character is reduced to making ramen for the restaurant owned by Himeko's Hawty Potter character, and is described as "Often in tears."
  • Spirit Advisor:
    • She becomes this to Kiana in ch. 11-EX. She has bonded her soul to Kiana's in order to try to help her, but Kiana refused to listen to her until near the end, when she accepts Fu Hua's help against her inner Herrscher. In ch. 13, Fu Hua continues to guide Kiana around as she continuously fights the Honkai invasion in Arc City.
    • In chapter 21 an image of Fu Hua revived through the Fenghuang Down feather that Kevin held serves as a partner and advisor of sorts to the "new" Fu Hua resurrected by Otto, revealing her the truth about her nature. This "Fenghuang Down shadow" was the one that defended Kiana from Kevin before the latter got a hold of her feather, i.e the real Fu Hua's consciousness that we followed in the story up to her dwelling inside Kiana's mind.
    • Later in ch. 22, she seemingly secretly moves from Hua(?)'s side to Kiana's again, and gives her support for Kiana by guiding her and refilling her HP bar should it get depleted. In the "Shattered Samsara" video, she subtly blocks each of Hua(?)'s attacks for Kiana. She also helps Kiana control Herrscher of the Void's full power again (like in "Meteoric Salvation" video) and then guides Kiana to use the Edge of Taixuan against Hua(?)'s attack.
  • Super Mode:
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: Or rather "roll down the bomblet". In the "Once Upon a Time in Shenzhou" event, her weapon is a chick-shaped bomb that slowly rolls in a straight line and explodes upon contact or reaching its range limit. Like Himeko's HOLA bombs, it also deals a small amount of AOE damage.
  • Time Abyss: She is well over 50,000 years old, as she was a youth in the waning years of the Previous Era and was put into cryosleep to survive the destruction of human civilzation by the Herrscher of the End.
  • Uncertain Doom: After she helps Kiana unleash Herrscher of the Void's full power in ch. 14, Kiana tries to call her again in ch. 15, only to find no response from her. Later in the chapter, however, she comes out of Kiana's body to defend her against Kevin.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: In short, Fu Hua is the reason for the big events in the chapters after Ch. 6, due to a genuine mistake on her part. She beats Kiana down and brings her to Otto, as part of their plan to awaken the Herrscher within Kiana. However, she expected Durandal and/or other high-ranked Valkyries to subdue the Herrscher and keep the casualties to a minimum. When Rita informs her that Otto ordered them to stand down, however, she starts to realize that something's wrong. She fights the Herrscher in her friends' stead, then Otto makes the Herrscher escape, revealing his true motive: to make the Herrscher fight her friends so she can be subdued with The Power of Friendship. He then (seemingly) shoots her dead for being a Spanner in the Works. She tries to amend things by helping Himeko fight the Herrscher (the former of which Fu Hua beat down prior to the reveal), and later bonds her soul to Kiana's after the Herrscher is suppressed to help her. Not to mention that the Herrscher caused a large-scale Honkai eruption around the world before she was put down.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: In Chapter 11-EX Kiana angrily calls her out on being a Double Agent for Otto and kidnapping her, blaming her for everything that's happened. It takes a while, but Kiana does forgive her later.
  • When She Smiles:
    • The Second Eruption manga emphasizes how, prior to the main game's story, Fu Hua never smiled. Even in the main game she veers into Perpetual Frowner territory with her serious demeanor, but it seems like Kiana, of all people, is capable of bringing a rare smile out of her. The manga and a number of event CGs make it clear the dunce (and/or her friends) has a positive effect on her. In gameplay, she may sometimes smile in some of her bridge interactions, and Azure Empyrea's default expression is a soft smile.
    • At the end of ch. 22 after reclaiming her body for good, the first thing she does is greet Kiana and Bronya with a genuine smile on her face.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?:
    • In the past, Fu Hua didn't socialize much with the people she protected from the Honkai, only fighting off threats and vanishing soon after. As an immortal, she's fated to outlive all of her comrades-in-arms as well as the normal folk, so she'll inevitably keep reliving the cycle of meeting and burying her friends. Fortunately, the "Little Book" ELF that Nuwa and Fuxi left behind manages to get her to not distance herself too much from humanity. Unfortunately, that ELF would eventually run out of battery and leave her alone again.
    • A side effect of her immortality is that she has been rendered unable to forget anything, which doesn't do any wonders for her mental state. Luckily, access to her Divine Key allowed her to circumvent this issue, but whether or not that helped her is another story...
    • In "Shattered Samsara" video, as Kiana "dives" into the Fenghuang Down feather Fu Hua sealed herself and Herrscher of Sentience into, it shows scenes of Fu Hua's past as she claims that she has faced many betrayals, witnessed many of the people she cared about died in front of her, and she felt that she'll always be alone, as a consequence of her living very long. Kiana gives her own rebuttal to each of them as she's determined to save her friend and free her from her loneliness.
  • You Don't Look Like You: She is the same person as Jingwei. However, the Jingwei stigmata looks different from Fu Hua, with red hair and a large bust. In the extra story "The Forgotten", Nuwa made up this image of Jingwei thinking people might get interested in Jingwei's stories if she made her look hotter (she didn't take it too kindly).
  • You Will Not Evade Me: As Azure Empyrea, one of her special attacks lets her gather enemies in a small area before a powerful strike that hits around her. Her Ultimate Skill will also gather enemies to a certain point before she makes a giant black spike fall down onto them.

Battle Storm
Story-important battlesuit:
Vermillion Knight: Eclipse

Himeko is the commander-in-chief of the Valkyrie Squad Fifth Platoon and is the superior officer of Kiana, Mei and Bronya. A year after the death of her father, Himeko enlisted in the Honkai Fighting Strategy Unit Training Program to find out the truth, becoming a very distinguished combatant and commander with the rank of Major. Unlike other playable characters, she does not have any natural resistance to Honkai energy, and her body had to be transplanted with artificial stigmata. Due to this and the effects of Honkai energy on her body, it is estimated she only has one year left to live.

  • The Alcoholic: On the occasion she drinks, she turns into a Lady Drunk. Fu Hua also mentions Himeko's alcoholism in the Dorm, and Rita will gently needle Himeko about her drinking in the dorm as well.
  • Badass Boast: Delivers one to Herrscher of the Void as she's overpowering her opponent.
That looks painful, you're actually bleeding! I never expect a god to bleed. [...] Don't you ever get tired calling us insects or humans? I have a name, you know. Try to remember it when you go to hell and cry to your daddy... I'm HIMEKO MURATA!! [...] Has your assault ended? Then it's my turn, if you don't mind.
  • Badass Cape: Her Vermilion Knight suit comes with a dark multiple-tailed cape.
  • Badass Teacher: Whenever she isn't on duty as a Valkyrie, she works as a teacher in St. Freya Academy. In particular, back when Kiana first enrolled, the latter roused her into a fight; Himeko soundly won despite being a "normie" compared to her.
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: One level in Chapter 9 is set in Himeko's mental world, with her trying to conquer her inner demons (represented by Boss Blood Rose) before she can use the new Vermilion Knight armor. During the boss fight, there's a scripted event where Theresa, Bronya, Mei and Kiana appear and briefly attack the boss before disappearing, representing Himeko's care towards them.
  • Berserk Button: Due to her lifespan being shortened from artificial Stigmata, Himeko has no patience towards those who hold their own lives with little value. Examples of this are Mei requesting to be executed in fear of the 3rd Herrscher taking over her body, and the diver who followed after her (in a supplementary comic) being infected with Honkai energy insisting she leave him behind.
  • Blood from the Mouth: In one of the cutscenes of Chapter 8, she suddenly coughs up blood after fighting. Due to her body's condition, she briefly becomes worried and insists that "her time isn't up yet".
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: In the side story "Chapter Xuanyuan", when she grabs the legendary Xuanyuan Sword, she suddenly goes crazy, gains Glowing Eyes of Doom, and attacks Kiana, Mei and Bronya. After the three Beat the Curse Out of Her, she ends up being heavily injured and they have to retreat.
  • Call-Forward:
    • In a flashback in ch. 11-EX, Himeko advises that a Valkyrie should end a teammate's life right away if they've succumbed to the Honkai, but swears that she won't let that happen to the members under her. It's referring to what happened in the end of ch. 9, where despite Kiana being taken over by the Herrscher of the Void, Himeko chose to suppress her instead of killing her.
    • In the Durandal visual novel, Himeko came to visit the orphanage Bianka was raised in, to inform her of Ragna (Himeko's squad leader and Bianka's "big sister" figure)'s death. Little Bianka was angry at Himeko at first (she thought Himeko, who had become a "teacher", wanted to take advantage of it to recruit students), but the latter told her that if she wanted to honor Ragna's ideals and values, she would have to try to fulfill her (Ragna)'s dream, for the world recognizes genuine actions more than sweet words. This exchange references the events in the game (years after the Durandal VN) where following Himeko's own death, as she imparted her "final lesson" onto Kiana, the latter strives to follow her words and fulfill her dreams.
  • The Captain: As shown in a supplementary comic, she's apparently the Hyperion's previous captain. After you (the player) take that role, she's free to go on field missions. She also mentions that the Hyperion used to be her ship when you select her in the character menu.
  • Charged Attack: Himeko's normal sword strikes can be charged for her to do stronger slashes, although the exact form varies depending on her iteration. With Battle Storm, she charges one powerful slash at a time; with Valkyrie Triumph, she can charge each sequence of the base combo to multiply the damage while tanking attacks; with Scarlet Fusion, she charges at the enemies before sending them flying upwards when you release the button; with Arctic Kriegsmesser, she enters a sort of Super Mode where each attack deals additional ice damage until the special gauge above her health bar depletes (her non-charged attacks fill the gauge).
  • Combat Medic: Aside from being a decently powerful attacker, Valkyrie Triumph's ultimate skill, if she's ranked S, can be upgraded to be able to heal her whole team per second for each enemy trapped in the time-stopping field (up to 4). In co-op plays, her team skill is to create an Area of Effect around her that heals the team when they stand on it.
  • Cooldown Hug: In the "Final Lesson" video, she gives one to the Herrscher of the Void in a final attempt to bring her back to her self and to stealthily inject the serum into her.
  • Dash Attack: Himeko's running animation is unique in that if she keeps running enough, she'll start sprinting at high speed. In that state, pressing the attack button will make her do a powerful slash attack.
  • Deadly Upgrade: The Vermilion Knight armor is more powerful than any of her previous suitsnote , but Fu Hua warns her that since it's powered by a Herrscher's gem, Himeko would risk getting corrupted by the Honkai if she were to draw out the higher extents of its power. She doesn't mind it.
  • Determinator: She survived everything Herrscher of the Void threw at her (including getting slammed, squashed, sliced, and stabbed, simultaneously, and topped off by a miniature black hole) thanks to her resilience and resolve (and her new battlesuit).
Herrscher of the Void: I should've killed you thousand times over.
Himeko: I could be quite sticky at times.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Himeko's slow attack speed and up-close-and-personal combat style may overwhelm new players trying to use her, and she'll also tank hits more than she dodges them. If properly mastered, she can easily blow through the enemy's defenses and deal high damage while taking only a little damage in return.
  • Dual Wielding: Vermilion Knight wields a special sword that hovers behind her back alongside her usual greatsword.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: The short animation "Final Lesson", which ties in with the end of Chapter 9, has Himeko —likely deciding that it'll be the last thing she does-- giving it her all to snap out Kiana out of the Herrscher's control, engaging her in a duel that was initially lopsided in Kiana's favor, but evened out with Himeko's willpower and overexerting her suit. Himeko manages to even dispel the Herrscher's most powerful attack (read: a miniature black hole) and fool her into thinking Himeko missed her finishing blow when in reality she needed an opening to inject Kiana with a Honkai-restraining serum. Himeko is successful and the Herrscher is suppressed, but this comes at the cost of her own life.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: She's the only normal human of all the playable Valkyries, and has to be empowered with artificial Stigmata just to keep up with the others. She's still a renowned Valkyrie despite that. This does, however, leave her with the short lifespan problem that most Valkyries have; the other characters don't have it due to being naturally differentnote  or having been modified heavilynote  or bothnote .
  • Entertainingly Wrong: In the "Alien Space" comic, she found an info from the internet about an "alien sighting" (shown in a dim silhouette) in New Mexico and she wanted to see it by her own eyes. Thing is, it wasn't an "alien" in the photo, but rather the Humongous Mecha Arhat, a secret project of Anti-Entropy. As she informed Welt (her lecturer) about this, he was rightfully concerned, as no civilian like her should know about said project. Thus he had to make sure she doesn't find out... by pretending to "like" such a thing as aliens and going to New Mexico with her. He had to change the altitude/latitude coordinates in Himeko's photo with his powers and then ask his subordinate Ryoma (the one in charge of the Arhat project) to put a big poster of the Arahato movie in one of the cinemas in Santa Fe, New Mexico, all to fool Himeko into thinking that the photo was wrong.
  • Expy: Of Misato Katsuragi. To wit, she's an alcoholic Old Maid who's Majorly Awesome and acts as something of a Parental Substitute to The Hero, who also lives with her. Not to mention, the deaths of both of their fathers are what motivated both of them to fight against a race that intends to Kill All Humans. Oh, and both of their living spaces are covered with the Trash of the Titans. Unsurprisingly, when the Neon Genesis Evangelion collab event happened, she played the role of Misato with little to no changes to her backstory or character.
  • Flying Weapon: Boss Himeko (encountered in the Extra Story "Chapter Xuanyuan") primarily attacks with flying apparitions of the legendary Xuanyuan Sword.
  • Go Out with a Smile: In "The Final Lesson", she gives a slight smirk as her consciousness fades away when the Herrscher of the Void pushes her away since she had successfully administered the serum during her Cooldown Hug.
  • Greater Need Than Mine: During her time in the Helheim Labs with Dr. Tesla, the latter manages to recreate a Honkai-neutralizing serum from the lab's files, and then gives it to Himeko, saying that it can save her life. Then she ended up using it on Kiana instead, to neutralize the Herrscher inside her. By the time Himeko dies, she has already shown signs of Honkai corruption.
  • Heroic Seductress: Downplayed. Himeko is the most openly and directly flirtatious with the Captain in her dialogue pieces on the home screennote , blowing kisses and even leaning forward so the Captain (and thus, the player) can get an even better look at her assets.
  • I Coulda Been a Contender!: In a flashback in ch. 11-EX, Himeko mentions that she could've been a scientist at a Honkai energy labnote  until her father became corrupted by the Honkai; she decided to become a Valkyrie some time after. She also mentioned that her old Valkyrie commander (back when she was still a rookie) wanted to become a gardener, but then said commander went KIA and Himeko ended up putting herself in St. Freya Academy. Himeko then lamented that so many girls wanted to become a Valkyrie (referring to the students) despite them potentially being able to live normal lives with their parents.
  • Identical Stranger: Although she and Nohime (one of the Stigmata characters) have no connection, they are spitting images of each other. If you put Nohime and one of Himeko's chibis in a dorm room together, they will remark on the resemblance, and in one exchange they agree that it would be very funny to prank everyone else by swapping places for a while.
  • Invulnerable Attack: Vermillion Knight's Charged Attack and Ultimate Skill make her completely invulnerable for a short moment.
  • Irony:
    • Himeko's an Empowered Badass Normal who faces the similar Honkai corruption and short lifespan problems that other typical Valkyries face. In the previous civilization 50000+ years ago, her counterpart became the Herrscher of Flame. Furthermore, the Vermilion Knight battlesuit is powered by Herrscher of Flame's core, meaning that Himeko is channeling her "older self's" power by wearing it.
    • In the "Alien Space" comic, young Himeko had a thing for space stuff, including aliens. Unknown to her, her father is secretly living close with an alien.
  • Judge, Jury, and Executioner: A downplayed, Played for Laughs version in her specific scenes in the Dating Sim mode. As the volunteer law enforcer in Soukai City, she ends up cuffing at least one person in every scene for even the most minor of slights and the Captain (i.e you) will note that, for most of them, she's just looking for an excuse to cuff people. In the last scene, even you get cuffed as well (because she thinks you got persuaded by the Anti-Entropy some moments before this).
  • "Just Frame" Bonus: Scarlet Fusion has the "Perfect Combo" mechanic, where her normal attack combo will be more powerful (increased Critical Hit chance) if you time the attack button tap just right (indicated by a circle appearing for a few frames around her body).
  • Kissing Under the Influence: In the supplementary comic, she comes very close to kissing Kiana after sneaking into her bed while drunk.
  • Last Request: During the climax of the special cutscene "Final Lesson", Himeko delivers a poignant message to Kiana as she spends the last of her power to get close to the latter and inject her with a Honkai-restraining serum, shortly before dying.
Kiana, raise your head and continue to go forward, to turn this imperfect story into what you’ve always dreamed of! Live on, Kiana. This, is the last lesson I could teach you.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Downplayed. She can run faster than other characters, her attacks do heavy damage, and she can tank hits well, but she has slower attack speed than other characters. Played fully straight as Vermilion Knight, where her evade move is changed to a dash (akin to Sakura's), her attacks become naturally faster, and she automatically "sprints" when she moves, all while retaining her usual toughness and hard blows.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: The main trio's primary teacher who dies trying to rescue Kiana from Herrscher of the Void's control in "The Last Lesson", but not before some last words of encouragement to Kiana. Kiana's wish to become "the bestest Valkyrie ever" was what drove Himeko into pushing herself and her suit beyond their limits, to try to save her student. Kiana's transformation into the Void Drifter is caused by her resolving to live by her late mentor's advice and hopes.
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon: The greatsword she can get from the week-long event with Dark Bronya is more of a cannon with a sword hilt, and its active skill is to shoot homing missiles. From the same event with Wotan as the boss, she can get the Wotan Cleaver greatsword that can shoot a sweeping laser.
  • More Powered Protégé: At least 4 of the students under her that we see (Kiana, Mei, Bronya, Fu Hua) have more raw power (in one way or another) than her.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She has the most consistently revealing wardrobe of battlesuits and alternate outfits of all the Valkyries, mainly due to all of them being tailored in some way to account for her considerable bosom.
  • My Future Self and Me: In the Dorm, you can put Arctic Kriegsmesser (i.e young Himeko) together with any of the other, older Himeko chibis. The two would then have a conversation, where young Himeko would ask her older self how life went for her; the latter would say that "your boss would be a brat who won't give you a raise and you'd be a teacher to a bunch of brats".
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: "Oh-hohoho!"
  • No One Could Survive That!: She invokes this to trick her opponent into letting her guard down; the moment Herrscher of the Void thinks that she's dead and turned her back, she proves it wrong with her retaliation, with the latter almost getting stabbed by her attack.
  • Old Maid: She's 27 and is desperately looking for a good man; her chibis in the dorm even exclaim "This girl needs a sweetheart today!". Considering that she doesn't have much time left to live, it's implied that she at least wants to have a good love life before dying, if not getting married and having a child of her own.
  • Otaku: In the "Alien Space" comic, the reason young Himeko wanted to study in Caltech University, California is that she's a big fan of the outer space, said university has one of the best space science faculties, and none of the colleges in Europe had such faculty. She's known for following news about outer space, including supposed alien findings.
  • Overheating: Vermilion Knight has an "overheat" system like Bronya's laser weapons: performing her Charged Attack will fill the heat gauge to almost full, while performing it again when the gauge is still cooling down will make it overheat. In that state, she gains increased fire damage, but she won't gain SP from attacks and can't use Charged Attack again until she fully cools down, either from waiting it out or by using her Ultimate Skill.
  • Post-Victory Collapse: After she injected the Honkai-neutralizing serum to Herrscher Kiana and saying her last words, the only thing that brings her downnote  is her own body condition.
  • Sand In My Eyes: In the special Lunar New Year episode of Cooking with Valkyries, when she's eating spicy dip-boil meat with the other Valkyries, she takes a glance at each of them and starts crying a Single Tear - implying that being around her "family" gives her a surge of strong feelings. Mei thinks Himeko is overwhelmed by the spice and offers her a handkerchief. She then claims that the food is so spicy that it gives her warmth in the cold days.
  • Self-Duplication: Boss Himeko, after entering a "dormant" state (when her health is almost depleted), will create 3 clones of herself that have different attributes (Mecha, Creature, Psychic) and attacks. In the second phase of the battle, she will create the 3 clones again, one by one, as her health is depleted.
  • Self-Made Woman: After her father's death, she went to work as a Valkyrie and becomes an experienced veteran after the years.
  • Serious Business: In Chapter Xuanyuan, Kiana mentions that Himeko seems to take their current mission more seriously than the previous ones, even with her doing literary researches prior to this. Bronya explains that since using artificial stigmata causes normal human users (including Himeko) to have short lifespans, this mission is to look for natural stigmata so that she can help the Schicksal's researches on it, which may potentially help with her body's problems.
  • Spin Attack:
    • As Battle Storm, her QTE and Ultimate Skill is a spinning attack with her sword that hits multiple times, with the latter dragging nearby enemies towards her before the attack comes out. Arctic Kriegsmesser's QTE and Ultimate Skill are similar, but enhanced with ice damage and more powerful.
    • In a variant, Blood Rose's Charged Attack has her do her usual slashing combo, then leaping up and performing a vertical spinning slash twice before a downward chop onto the ground. Her QTE is a more powerful version of it, and in her Super Mode she can spin a lot more times.
    • Vermilion Knight's Ultimate Skill starts with her performing a few spinning slashes with her sword enhanced.
  • Split Second Blade Spam: Vermilion Knight's Charged Attack has her Flash Stepping forward as she does multiple weak slashes, before reappearing for a final, powerful slash with both swords.
  • Sticks to the Back: Her greatsword freely floats behind her back whenever it's not being used. One of miHoYo's 4koma comics has fun with the concept, at Kiana's expense.
  • Super Mode:
    • Scarlet Fusion's Burst Mode strengthens her normal attacks and lets her shoot out powerful Sword Beams for each sword strikes for as long as she has enough SP (which depletes to 0 while it's active).
    • Blood Rose's Burst Mode strengthens her normal attacks, makes them faster and deal more hits, increases her defense, interruption resistance and gives her immunity to Status Effects, and will engulf the enemies in flames for further damage; basically making her nigh unstoppable. Unlike other Super Modes, however, hers is Cast from Hit Points per second, although it can be stopped manually.
    • Arctic Kriegsmesser can enter one by using her Charged Attack. It'll make her subsequent sword attacks be followed by extra icy slashes while depleting her special meter as long as it's active; she'll also become resistant to flinching. It's deactivated by either evading, getting interrupted (note that she gains increased resistance to flinching during this), switching out, or having the meter depleted.
  • Sword Drag: Scarlet Fusion's Charged Attack is her running while dragging her sword against the ground. While running, contact with her body will deal lightning damage to enemies multiple times, and when the button's released, she lets out a powerful upward slash. If she scores 2-3 times of Perfect Combo (see "Just Frame" Bonus above), the upward slash will also fire off a lightning element Sword Beam.
  • Sword Plant: Many of her weapon skills, as well as her "stealth kill" move, have her stab the ground with her sword to cause a small explosion on the ground. This is also her QTE as Vermilion Knight, and Vermilion Knight's victory animation has her tossing her sword into the air and letting it stick in the ground before posing next to it.
  • Teen Genius: The supplementary comic "Alien Space" shows that she graduated her high school with high grades and was offered scholarships to various prestigious colleges in Europe. Despite that, she chose to go to Caltech University in California, USA.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: In the "Once Upon a Time in Shenzhou" event, her weapon is a HOLA-themed Cartoon Bomb that explodes upon contact and deals a small amount of AOE damage.
  • Time Stands Still: Valkyrie Triumph's ultimate skill is to create a large hemispherical field around the target that will stop the time for the target and the surrounding enemies, leaving them open for attacks, while also summoning multiple swords around the field that will impale the trapped enemies after a few seconds.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: As Arctic Kriegsmesser; this is the only version of Himeko to wear her hair in this style.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: Downplayed. When she was younger, she thought that the world and life was good and filled with possibilities, and that she dreamed of doing a lot of things, like being a scientist at her father's Honkai lab. Then her father was corrupted by the Honkai and she chose to become a Valkyrie to seek answers. She joined a Valkyrie squad, whose leader taught her a lot of things, before she went KIA and Himeko ended up applying as a teacher in St. Freya Academy, because she doesn't want any other people to lose their families. She doesn't become outright cynical, but she definitely become matured through her experiences.
Kiana: Why did you end up as a Valkyrie with beefy arms?
Himeko: ...Because I work out and because life isn't perfect, sugar.
  • Trash of the Titans: One glance at her messy residence is all it takes for Kiana to call it a dumpsite, with Theresa adding that it's the place of an over-aged, single, solitary woman. Himeko even admits that she jams things she doesn't use into a cabinet.
  • Trick Boss: The fight with Boss Himeko doesn't stop when you deplete her health. You then have to defeat her clones, and then she gets healed back to full health and start whipping out stronger attacks.
  • Unaffected by Spice: She loves spicy foods, which is referenced numerous times:
    • In the "Alien Space" comic, young Himeko cooks her father and Welt a special curry rice made with super spicy Mexican chili pepper. Welt instantly gets shocked by its spiciness; Ryusuke seems to be able to stomach it just fine, but out of his daughter's earshot, he reveals that he's only acting tough in front of her to not make her upset - he too can't stand the spiciness. Ryusuke's alien friend tries to taste a bit of it too, and he's knocked out instantly.
    • In the special episode of Cooking with Valkyries (celebrating Lunar New Year 2021), she's first shown eating spicy instant boiled food in a convenient store. When she comes back home, the other Valkyries have arranged a feast, a meat dip-boil dish with spicy broth variant (and non-spicy one as well). She can see through the other girls' comments that they're trying to brave through the hot spice for Himeko's sake.
  • Victoria's Secret Compartment: She has a tendency to keep hard drives containing data within her sizable bust.
  • Wave-Motion Gun: In the "Empyrean Legends" event, her weapon is a chargeable laser gun that fires a continuous laser beam as long as you hold the button. It deals less damage than other guns, but it's very accurate, can pierce through obstacles and hit multiple enemies in a line, and doesn't slow down her movement.
  • Weight Woe: In the dorms, if her chibis are in a room with a refrigerator, they will ponder whether or not to get snacks/drinks out of the fridge, only they have no choice but eat/drink them and lament that it will make them fat, then close the fridge and stomp their feet in anger.
  • Younger and Hipper: Arctic Kriegsmesser (the "awakened" version of Battle Storm) is a younger version of her from a special storyline in the Dating Sim mode that takes place in 2006 (10 years before the present).
  • You Will Not Evade Me: Her Ultimate Skill in the "Empyrean Legends" event is an aimable bomb that creates a black hole effect, sucking nearby enemies to the center of impact. It synergizes well with her weapon, which can hit multiple enemies at once.

    Theresa Apocalypse

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/valkyrie_pledge.png
Valkyrie Pledge
The principal of St. Freya Academy where Kiana, Mei and Bronya attend, and "granddaughter" of the Archbishop of Schicksal, Otto Apocalypse. She was "born" from Kallen Kaslana's genes and is an accomplished Valkyrie from a young age. She was close friends with Kiana's parents (especially Cecilia), and they asked her to be Kiana's godmother.

For more info on Luna Kindred, see Theresa (A-872)’s entry.

  • The Ace: Theresa's one of the strongest Valkyries that Schicksal has, partly because she was made with Kallen's genes. An off-hand mention in the story says that she can be an S-rank Valkyrie, but she's not interested in being one since she's working as a principal.
  • Anti-Debuff: Valkyrie Pledge has a "leader skill" that decreases the duration of debuffs taken for the whole team if she's set as the team's leader.
  • Artificial Family Member: Created by Otto by using genes taken from Kallen. He expressed feelings for her and later adopted her as his granddaughter. Kiana also sees her as her "aunt".
  • Artificial Human: She was "born" in a lab by mixing Kallen Kaslana's genes with that of a powerful Honkai Beast. This gives her immense power and Healing Factor, but due to a genetic defect, her body can't grow beyond looking like a 12-year-old girl.
  • Badass Armfold: She stands with her arms confidently folded in her victory pose, all of her costume slots, and on the bridge.
  • Big Good:
    • She's one for the cast of playable characters, as she commands not only St. Freya Academy but also the battleship Hyperion.
    • Becomes the de facto Big Good in Post-Honkai Odyssey as the Overseer of Schicksal, putting its massive resources and manpower to use for the benefit of mankind and the world.
  • Carry a Big Stick: In the "Once Upon a Time in Shenzhou" event, her weapon is the Oath of Judah as a bludgeoning weapon that deals a decent amount of damage at close range and has a good chance to deflect enemy projectiles.
  • Charged Attack: Theresa's charged attacks are different depending on her iteration:
    • Valkyrie Pledge shoots out a powerful spear at her target.
    • Sakuno Rondo creates a circular blast of flame at the target's position. If the target has "sakura marks" (applied onto them by her normal attacks, Ultimate Evasion, QTE or Ultimate Skill), the charged attack detonates the marks, dealing heavy fire damage.
    • Violet Executer summons multiple swords from the ground in front of her that launches enemies upward. As Twilight Paladin, this is changed into a completely different one: after filling a special gauge by normal attack, she can use her charged attack to enter her Super Mode (detailed below). During this mode, she has another charged attack where she rushes towards the target for a quick stabbing attack and to close her distance. If she has scored 100+ combo hits, said attack will deal extra damage depending on how many hits she did (up to 200), after which her combo count is reset.
    • Celestial Hymn creates a "cyclone" of blades at the target's position that gives the "impair" debuff on enemies.
  • Clones Are People, Too: Chapter 8 reveals that she had always known that the Kiana she's taking care of isn't the real Kiana, but the fact that she's a clone doesn't matter and she will still save her from Otto. She herself first experienced this with Cecilia, who treated her as an equal despite knowing her origins.
  • Closet Geek: She usually acts like an adult despite her appearance. However, she reads manga in secret.
  • Companion Cube: She's mainly associated with the elite cross weapon named Oath of Judah (aka the "Cross of Pledge"). She mentions it a lot in her quotes, and one side story reveals that she can't go to the bathroom at night without it.
  • Cooldown Manipulation: The M part of her Stigmata set reduces the cooldown of weapon active skills by 30%. It's useful for certain weapons with long cooldowns in their active skills, as well as to support the other parts of her Stigmata set, which are tied to using weapon skills.
  • Cross Attack: She uses mechanical cross-shaped weapons that, depending on the version of her being used, can provide ranged damage through projectile attacks (either with weapons enclosed in the cross or the cross itself) or be turned into a melee weapon as a charged attack.
  • Declaration of Protection: In a variant, in a comic focusing on Ai-chan's backstory, she said towards the guardian of the "last Divine Key" that she wants to use its power to protect her loved ones, and that she'll never watch her loved ones die in front of her again. A1, however, denied her, because the weapon was meant to defend the world and humanity, and that someone who's bound to their personal feelings is disqualified from using the weapon. Near the end of the battle, Theresa stopped A1 from self-destructing out of desperation; Theresa then declared that she'll never let "another fool" be sacrificed in front of her.
A1: Before the fate of all mankind, the value of an indivudal is small. If you aren't willing to sacrifice an individual, you may end up making a mistake that can't be undone. Such a human being is not qualified to use the "Key"!
  • Delirious Misidentification: In one Cooking with Valkyries episode, she wakes up with the HOMU plush besides her talking to her, calling her "Master Theresa". She only realizes after some seconds that the HOMU shouldn't be able to talk, and (while still half asleep) thinks that it was Himeko's voice. After she dresses up, she hears "Master Theresa" again, and she says "Even if you call me 'master', I won't allocate funds for a rooftop swimming pool, Himeko." The voice then says "please lift your head, Master Theresa" and she finds out that it's Rita. Cue the principal's embarrassed blushing face, as well as her face-saving denial ("I knew it was you!")
  • Dirty Business: She reveals in ch. 4 that she was the one who recommended Wendy to take part in the experiment for the Gem of Desire in the first place (she used to be Theresa's student). Theresa feels that, now that everything has come to this (i.e Wendy awakening as a Herrscher and then getting kidnapped by Anti-Entropy), apologies won't be enough and so she decides to keep "bearing her cross" (i.e bearing the burden of fault). Wendy at least understands and thanks the principal for all of her teachings.
  • Embarrassing Password: When she gives Anti-Entropy access to Hyperion's security, she discloses the password "TERITERI". Tesla gives a stern look to Theresa for her choice of password.
  • Emotional Maturity Is Physical Maturity: Somewhat. She easily (and sometimes nonchalantly) deals with adult matters and generally acts dignified; being a person in a high position, she's expected to think wisely and make good decisions. However, she still has a childish side, such as calling herself "the world's cutest principal" and with many of her reactions in the home screen. Lampshaded by Bronya in ch. 10:
*after Theresa's pep talk* Bronya is unaccustomed to Principal Theresa sharing words of wisdom.
  • Expository Pronoun: In the Japanese voiceover, she uses the rarely used "atakushi" to refer to herself. As a combination of "atashi" (an informal pronoun commonly used by young, and often childish, females) and "watakushi" (a more formal/sophisticated form of the normal "watashi"), it captures the two sides of her character very well.
  • Eye Color Change:
    • She gets red eyes as Sakuno Rondo, courtesy of having Sakura's Stigma.
    • During the events of ch. 12, after Theresa uses her special suit to activate the Honkai Beast's genes inside her, her eyes turn red. This shows in gameplay when you activates Twilight Paladin's special mode.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Fittingly, her own Stigmata set has extra effects when they're equipped on any of her battlesuit.
  • Girly Run: Does a typical version with her arms bent upwards at her sides. On one hand, this fits with the "cute" image she cultivates. On the other, it makes her the slowest runner of all playable characters, which can be a slight handicap in timed missions.
  • Heroic BSoD: She has one in Post-Honkai Odyssey when the team discovers that Otto Apocalypse isn't as dead as they thought he was. The shock is powerful enough to cause her to faint. In the same mode, it's implied she had an even more serious one in the past when they "lost" someone very dear to them, who is strongly implied to be Kiana (or, in her case, Cecilia).
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: She was one with Cecilia in the past, as she was the one (other than Otto) that didn't deny Theresa respect or treat her as a non-human due to what she is. She definitely felt a great loss when Cecilia died in a Heroic Sacrifice in the 2nd Honkai War (which gets shown a bit in a comic focusing on Ai-chan's origins), and harbored a hidden grudge against Otto ever since. She actually got jealous towards Siegfried due to this; in one of the supplementary comics, she says to the "virtual" version of him that she still can't forgive him for "stealing" Cecilia from her, but nonetheless, the two are on good enough terms.
  • Honorary Aunt: Kiana casually calls her "Auntie", which occasionally irritates her. However, Theresa actually likes it.
  • Idol Singer: The version of her in the "Arc: Light Bound" event is a very popular idol singer, and the only idol who still gives live performances as the other idols in Arc City have all switched to exclusively performing online.
As long as there's someone who wishes to see me up close, I will never give up the live stage.
  • Impossibly Cool Weapon: While other characters have more mundane weapons, Theresa uses complex mechanical crosses that can do various things and visibly transform to attack.
  • Involuntary Battle to the Death: In her Chronicles story "Everlasting Memory", in the beginning, she was put into a series of tests by Otto, not long after she was "born". The final test for her was to fight another of her clone, A-303, to the death, in exchange for a proper name for her (she's referred to as "A-310" at this point). Otto stressed that if she doesn't kill the clone, the latter will kill her. She shows aversion towards killing another human being, even if it's another clone; she ended up defeating A-303 but sparing her. This act reminded Otto of Kallen, thus he decided to give her the name "Theresa" even though she didn't kill said clone.
  • Iron Maiden: Violet Executer's default outfit has metallic "juttings" from her hip that are modeled after iron maidens. They can also hurt enemies (for little damage) if she uses her evasion move at close range. The outfit itself also makes her look vaguely similar to the woman depicted on the iron maiden, complete with the metallic hairband.
  • It's Quiet… Too Quiet: In ch. 17, she feels alarmed by the quietness of the situation as she's flying on the Hyperion towards Nagazora City. It reminds her of the uneasy silence during the Battle of Schicksal (in chapters 7 to 9).
  • I Will Find You: The version of her in the "Empyrean Legends" event is looking for her sister, after the latter is supposedly kidnapped by a white dragon. The Celestial and Book of Fuxi ELF agree to accompany her to go to the dragon's lair. As they find her sister, however, she has become the "Frigid Empress", bosses the dragon around, and refuses to go back home, although she allows Theresa to visit her again sometime.
  • Little Miss Badass:
    • Theresa has been accustomed to being on the battlefield against Honkai forces from a young age. It gets muddled in the present, however, as she merely looks like a little girl but is Older Than She Looks.
Rozaliya: Why does Theresa always talk like a grown-up. Is she really our age?
      Bronya: Erm... Nyet.
    • In the "Empyrean Legends" event, Book of Fuxi and the Celestial notes that the normally meek and timid Theresa becomes much fiercer after the ELF lends her one of her weapons from her stash. This serves as a Foreshadowing to her "sister", who was described as being very kind and helpful, but is later shown to have changed; now she becomes a capable fighter and talks in harsher words (although that does little to hide her kindness).
  • Magical Girl:
    • She has a special costume for Sakuno Rondo that turns her into one, with lots of pink, white and frills. There's also a special cross weapon that goes with the costume, Super Dimension Sonata, which looks more like a Magic Staff than a cross but is still used like the latter would, and said weapon attacks with "magical lasers".
    • In the Dating Sim mode, her bond cutscenes have her thinking that she's the "Magical Girl Teriri", supposedly due to Tesla's hypnotism-induced amnesia. You, the captain, are going to accompany her and follow her whims; however, in a later scene, Yae Sakura suspects that Theresa might've been Faking Amnesianote  due to the stress of her work and wanting to be "someone else" for some time.
  • Meaningful Appearance:
    • Her Sakuno Rondo battlesuit takes cues from Sakura's "main" outfit (Gyakushin Miko). This is because Sakura has planted her Stigma onto Theresa.
    • Her Celestial Hymn suit is a reference to the outfit shown in the Kallen: Hymn stigmata set, furthering the theme of Theresa being Kallen's clone.
    • Her Twilight Paladin outfit has some similar elements to another existing "Knight" suit: Rita's Argent Knight.
  • The Mentor: The end of ch. 12 has Rozaliya saying that Theresa will teach her and Liliya how to utilize the powers from their Honkai augmentations better. Although at the first act of Chapter 23, Bronya stated that both of them are giving her "a severe headache".
  • Miko: As Sakuno Rondo, she wears a miko-esque dress. This happens due to Sakura planting her Stigma onto Theresa's body, and she's shown in this form in one of the supplementary comics, where she (her mind) is trapped inside Sakura's "stigmata space". Meanwhile, in the "Sanka Saga" event, the event's version of her acts as an apprentice miko of Yae Shrine, although she mentions that the shrine is not very active so she doesn't do much daily.
  • My Greatest Failure: Being unable to prevent Cecilia from being deployed during the Second Honkai Eruption, which leads to Cecilia's death and the sundering of the Kaslana-Shariac family, a regret she shares with Siegfried. This spills over to failing to look after Kiana for most of her life like she promised Cecilia, which is why Theresa is overjoyed when Kiana ends up walking into her life after the Third Eruption.
  • Not Growing Up Sucks: Downplayed. Theresa's physical growth halted when she was 12, and she's voiced frustration on a couple of occasions with the limitations of her youthful body and the awkwardness that can result from it. However, on the whole she's well-adjusted to her situation and likes that it helps her play up her cuteness.
  • Orbiting Particle Shield: Celestial Hymn's Ultimate Evasion causes two blades to revolve around her while spinning, hitting the enemies around her multiple times. She also has a skill that allows her to give this "shield" to another character when she switches out.
  • Out of Focus: After having a few chapters focusing on her and the Anti-Entropy's group, the focus shifts to Kiana's story. She only appears again in ch. 17 where she's flying on the Hyperion towards Kiana's position, and later in ch. 20 where she's briefing Kiana and Bronya during their journey to Mount Taixuan in their search for Fu Hua.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: As a clone who benefits from the genes of a powerful Honkai beast, Theresa boasts immense physical strength despite her petite body, handling the Oath of Judah with incredible ease even though it's around three times as heavy as she is. On a more comical note, she can manhandle Kiana with one arm and drag her off for "training".
  • Power Limiter: In Ch. 10, Einstein reveals to her that she has only been using around 15% of her potential power this whole time. The Honkai Beast "Vishnu" that was used for her creation gives her high potential power, but its use is intentionally limited by Otto for the fear that Theresa might explode violently if she pushed herself too much. Her Blood Knight: Moonlight suitnote  has a module that can let her use more of said power, but said module is restricted by a protocol program, which Einstein offers to lift. Later on, she tries to use said ability; it allows her to withstand and decimate a lot of Honkai Beasts. Lifting part of that limiter is the basis for her Twilight Paladin suit, Violet Executer's "Augment Core", which occurs in ch. 12.
  • Rank Up: In Post-Honkai Odyssey, Theresa succeeds Otto as the Overseer of Schicksal.
  • Reincarnation: Due to her kind and protective personality (that the other Kallen clones seem to lack), Otto thought that she may be a reincarnation of Kallen. He's highly doubtful of it, however, as the concept of "reincarnation" isn't easily comprehensible by known science. Nevertheless, he dotes on her a lot because of it. Her side story "Everlasting Memory" has her, more than once, claim that she tends to hear a "voice in her head" telling her to protect people. She faces the similar dilemma as Kallen did: while "protecting people" is basically her instinct, at first she can't quite understand what it really means to be "protecting people", or why and what exactly she wants to protect, until Cecilia befriended her. She has since resolved to protect the people she comes to love and care about, and later, innocent children who were victims of the Honkai, which is her reason for founding the St. Freya Academy. She would also later rebel against Otto because he caused her loved ones and innocent people to be hurt, just like what Kallen did back then for the similar reasons.
  • Roaring Rampage of Rescue: The end of Chapter 6, continuing to Ch. 7, shows that Theresa would go against Otto with her own forces in order to rescue the kidnapped Kiana.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: In the "Honkai Kingdoms: Zero" event, she (as "Zhuge Kongming") is a smart and cunning princess who is aiming to get rid of the monsters that plagued the kingdom.
  • Secret-Keeper: She and Himeko knew since a while ago that their Kiana was not the "real" Kiana, but a clone all along. They reveal this to Einstein when said person tries to confirm their resolves with this information, only to find out they'd been resolved for ages.
  • Self-Applied Nickname: She tends to call herself "Teri-Teri". In-game, she says this when doing an Ultimate Evasion, and when using the Japanese voices, one of her dialogue pieces during her Victory Pose is "Teri-Teri daishouri!"note
  • Set Bonus: For her Stigmata set:
    • 2 pieces: the user's teammates take 20% less damage from frontal attacks. When equipped on Theresa, gain 20% max SP.
    • 3 pieces: the user's teammates gain 15% physical damage on their basic (i.e non-Ultimate Skill or weapon skill) attacks. When equipped on Theresa, gain 15% more physical damage.
  • Short-Range Shotgun: In the "Empyrean Legends" event, her weapon is a double-barreled shotgun which is short-ranged but fires multiple shots at once in a spread. She can deal huge damage at close-to-point-blank range with it. Her Ultimate Skill increases its power (and her defense).
  • Situational Damage Attack: Valkyrie Pledge has a sub-skill (that can be toggled on or off) that enhances her Charged Attack depending on how many combo hits she's made beforehand. The combo counter will be reset after the attack, however.
  • Spread Shot: As Valkyrie Pledge, the end of her normal combo has her throwing a spread of spears to hit multiple enemies.
  • Sticks to the Back: Her cross freely floats behind her back whenever it's not being used. The supplementary comics reveal that Theresa actually carries her weapon by chaining her body to it, which is shown in her Stigmata set.
  • Storm of Blades:
    • Valkyrie Pledge's ultimate skill has her summon multiple spears raining from above onto enemies in front of her.
    • Celestial Hymn's QTE skill summons falling swords around her, while her ultimate skill has her create an Unrealistic Black Hole that sucks enemies in and then causes a series of swords to fly around continuously, shredding enemies caught within.
    • Some of her cross weapons' active skills create this at a radius, such as Oath of Judah, Pledge of Sakura and Hekate's Gloom.
  • Super Mode:
    • Sakuno Rondo's Burst Mode makes her attacks deal more fire damage, and allows her to repeatedly apply the "Burning Sakura Mark" on enemies that will then explode, dealing extra fire damage.
    • Violet Executer's Burst Mode changes her normal attacks to her throwing enlarged copies of her cross at enemies, dealing significant damage at each attack and repeatedly stunning them (with a chance). She also has a passive skill that increases the team's total damage output while using Burst Mode.
      • As Twilight Paladin, however, she has a new one (not a Burst Mode) that is triggered by using her Charged Attack after her special gauge is full (either by normal attacks or Ultimate Skill). During this mode, she gains a new, more powerful attack combo that can deal a lot of hits and a special Charged Attack.
  • Swapped Roles: Normally Kiana sees Theresa as her Honorary Aunt. In "Honkai Kingdoms: Zero", the event's version of Kiana acts as Zhuge Kongming's "uncle".
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: Her signature weapon, the Divine Key Oath of Judah, is capable of a lot more things than what the game shows. The supplementary comics show its other capabilities: shooting out powerful chains that strongly bind targets, becoming a Honkai energy detector, and, at full power, shutting down any energy around it. Oh, and holding multiple kitchen utensils.
  • Sword Beam: As Twilight Paladin, one part of her combo moves in her Super Mode, as well as her QTE attack, has her attack with an X-shaped crescent wave fired from her blades.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: Strongly implied in Post-Honkai Odyssey, where the combined stresses of leading Schicksal and all the trials and loss up to that point have turned her into a sullen woman who speaks only when necessary. That said, her original kind and cheerful personality shows itself when speaking to the Main Character about her companions, if subdued, so it's not like she's changed completely.
  • Throwing Your Sword Always Works: She mainly attacks by throwing out spinning swords/spears out of nowhere that fly like boomerangs. As Sakuno Rondo, they're flying katanas.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She's a fiend for bitter melon, especially juiced. Similarly to Kiana, she uses bitter melon as her mooncake filling.
  • The Turretmaster: Her cross is used like a turret; once she plants it in the ground, it activates and gives an offensive/supportive Area of Effect around it for a few seconds.
  • Unreliable Expositor: In ch. 3, Theresa tells Himeko about the 2nd Honkai War and what happened within. As the Second Eruption comic shows, however, she's got a number of details wrong. It's in large part because Otto rewrote her memories with his copy of Fenghuang Down.
  • Unusual Ears: She gains a pair of her own fox ears in her Sakuno Rondo battle suit. In-story (as shown in the supplementary comic), this comes from Sakura planting her Stigma onto Theresa's body. The Magical Girl-inspired alternate costume for it turns her extra ears into proper rabbit ears.
  • Vague Age: Her bio lists her age as "a secret". The Extra Stage "Everlasting Memory" clears it somewhat: She was born around 1971-1973; as the game's present takes place in 2014-2016, this pegs her age in the 40s. However, given her genetic condition as a special clone, she still looks like a little girl, in contrast to someone of similar age like Siegfried (who was born in 1972).
  • Violence Is Not an Option: In one of the supplementary comics, in the climax, she's fighting Hellmaru. Even though she has transformed into Celestial Hymn at that point, the beast still overwhelms her; not only that, it's entering her mind, and trying to sway her by making her give in to her inner hatred (of Otto). At this point, she has come to the conclusion that "nothing good comes out of hatred" and decides to forgive said beast instead. Hellmaru is moved by this (as it has known nothing but hatred since 50.000 years ago) and voluntarily goes dormant.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She's afraid of ghosts. In the Second Eruption comic, she investigates the Babylon Tower's staff disappearance with fellow A-rank Valkyrie Patricia Highsmith, and is worried that a ghost might be the culprit. Patricia is amused that Theresa, who can defeat even Emperor-level Honkai Beasts, is still afraid of something like ghosts, which adds a cute side to her. In the "HOMU Rush!" event, one of the trials that her team has to pass through is a "test of courage" filled with prop "ghosts", which makes her go berserk as she tries to destroy any "ghost" that she sees with her Oath of Judah.

Crew of the Hyperion

    Ai Hyperion / "Ai-chan"

Voiced by: Xiao N * (Chinese, NPC), Wang Yaxin * (Chinese, playable), Yui Horie (Japanese)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ai_channew.png
The AI of the battleship Hyperion, who is also the "system voice" of the game and will help you with tutorials.

  • A Day in the Limelight: One supplementary comic is about her backstory. Back in 2001, a year after the 2nd Honkai War, Theresa investigated a strange Floating Continent above the Arctic Ocean and entered a strange hole in its grounds. There, she first met Ai-chan, or rather, an android called "A1", who came from the Previous Era. The two then fought each other, and then Theresa beat her and brought her body to the Hyperion. There, she was connected to the battleship, and her AI then inhabited its system. As she lost her memories and abilities, she was given a new name, "Ai-chan".
  • Bad Liar: Despite her proudly boasting that players won’t be able to see the Valkyrie’s panties no matter how hard they try, it is in fact, very easy to see the panties of several Valkyries.
  • Deal with the Devil: In "Empyrean Legends", where she poses as one of the villains, a mysterious person came to her, offering some "crystalium" for her. The shady person then asked her to "make the Celestial disappear". She then becomes the second boss of the event, using the crystals to empower herself.
  • Drunk with Power: This is how she becomes one of the villains in "Empyrean Legends". She used to be just a simple cabbage farmer in a village that primarily grows pumpkins; many of the villagers ostracized her and pushed her away to the corner of the village. One day, a shady bald man offered "Crystalium" to the villagers, claiming that it'll help growing crops much faster (they had a crop failure back then); out of all the villagers, only Ai-chan accepted it, the rest seeing it as a scam. Except that it wasn't—her cabbages grew big and quickly, enough to cover most of the village. The twist is that the crystals are also a Toxic Phlebotinum that caused her ego to spiral out of control; she soon pushed away all of the pumpkin farmers and built a palace for herself, and her cabbages also caused animals that ate them to become violent and turn into monsters. After the Celestial fights her, the former cures her of the Crystalium poisoning, turning her back normal.
  • Fighting Clown: In "Empyrean Legends", her attacks either consists of firing barrages of cabbages, or parodies of other attacks in the game, such as Kiana's dimensional cat paws, copies of Oath of Judah, or Herrscher of the Void's Ultimate Skill.
  • Finishing Move: In Schicksal HQ Open World, Ai-chan can finish off almost-dying mooks with her skill during combat mode. This is helpful when you're completing tasks, as many of them come with a time challenge.
  • Gratuitous English: When you're upgrading your weapon or stigma, Ai-chan will exclaim "Weapon upgrade!" or "Stigma upgrade!" respectively. When you put a complete stigmata set on your character, she'll say "Wow, sweet!"
  • Important Haircut: Played with. In the intro animation for "Stan Wars Overtime", Ai-chan announces that she's stepping down as top idol and resigning. She then pulls the cabbage-shaped pieces of her hair off and tosses them aside as she walks off the stage, revealing that they're just hair extensions that are worn by the top idol.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Ai-chan's Candy (the cross weapon) attacks by dropping gift boxes onto enemies once it's deployed.
  • Macguffin Guardian: The purpose of her past self, A1, was to guard a part of the "last Divine Key" that was destroyed by the final Herrscher. She tried testing Theresa if the latter is worthy of using the weapon, and she came to the conclusion that Theresa wasn't, because the weapon is meant to defend the world and humanity, and that someone who's bound by their personal feelings is not qualified to use it. After A1 was defeated, the device she was guarding was brought to Schicksal HQ.
  • Mana Meter: In Schicksal HQ Open World, she comes with an energy meter of her own. Some of her hacking abilities will cost her energy (some of them more than others), while a few of them have free cost.
  • Mascot: She's one for the game. She also becomes the "face" for the game's developers in the social media.
  • Mind Rape: It wasn't her intention, but when A1 tried to do a "mind check" on Theresa, the latter ended up relieving her memories, including the bad ones, up to Cecilia's death. She was left kneeling on the ground after that.
  • One-Hit Kill: In Schicksal HQ Open World, she can kill the roaming mooks in one hit whenever you're outside of combat mode, by walking to the mook's back and then activating Ai-chan's skill.
  • The Paralyzer: Ai-chan Hammer's active skill has Himeko smash the ground with it, causing a small blast that has a 50% chance to stun nearby enemies.
  • Platforming Pocket Pal: In the Schicksal HQ Open World, she becomes this, in the vein of Higokumaru below. She floats alongside you, picks up collectables for you, and acts as an all-purpose hacker for the many interactive devices on the stages and the enemy robots and turrets. By leveling her up, she'll be able to perform more things.
  • Point Build System: In Schicksal HQ Open World, Ai-chan's "tech" is put around like this, with you allocating skill points to a skill tree.
  • Rocket Punch: The Ai-chan Cannon fires her 2 fists instead of normal rockets. They also give random status effects onto the target by a chance.
  • Self-Insert Fic: The Stigmata Naoe Kanetsugu looks like an adult version of Ai-chan, odango hair and everything. When you read the Stigmata's notes, it quickly becomes apparent that Ai-chan has written herself into a version of the real samurai's accounts, which Himeko lampshades in a report to Theresa.
We need to do something about Ai-chan's obsession with these Japanese Taiga Dorama history TV shows, Principal. Her addiction is getting in the way of everything.
  • Spaceship Girl: More like "Airship Girl", but it's still the same.
  • Villain No Longer Idle: In the 2nd chapter of "Empyrean Legends", she's just lounging in her palace, only talking to the protagonists through the robotic scarecrows on the lands. When they start storming her palace and the guards come to her reporting it, however, she decides to take arms with the Ai-chan Hammer and confront the heroes by herself.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: Once she's defeated at the end of ch. 2 of "Empyrean Legends", the Celestial cures her Crystalium poisoning by forcing her to puke it out. It's a painful and slightly bloody process; the player (fortunately) only gets the text describing what's happening.
  • Worf Had the Flu: In the middle of the fight between her "past self" A1 and Theresa, she suddenly stopped working because she exhausted her energy supply. At that point she couldn't hold the fight anymore; in desperation, she tried to self-destruct to take Theresa down with her, but Theresa stopped her cold with a slap.

Ai Hyperion Λ

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chrono_navi.png
Chrono Navi
A different version of Ai-chan born from the Imaginary Space. She helps the protagonists against Project Stigma in chapter XXXII to XXXIV. She’s also the main protagonist of the "Honkai Salvation Log" event in version 6.2.

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Since "Honkai Salvation Log" puts the player directly "into" the game to try to save its infrastructure from the B.B.B. virus, Ai Hyperion Λ speaks directly to the player, addressing them by the handle they use for their Mihoyo account for the game. She also asks the player to enter a phrase of their liking into the game, which ends up being the admin key needed to resurrect her in the Supply system.
  • Fanservice Pack: In contrast to the comical and childish-looking NPC Ai-chan, this version is made more palatable to the eye, with Sailor Moon-esque twin tails, a form-fitting top that bares her shoulders, and of course, a sizeable chest.
  • Hollywood Hacking: In "Honkai Salvation Log", she and the Designer frequently have to rewrite the corrupted code of the game, which means a lot of summoning holographic interfaces, on-the-fly coding, and directly hacking the Abyss system to break B.B.B.'s dominance and the Supply sustem to resurrect Ai Hyperion Λ after she was damaged by B.B.B..
  • Me's a Crowd: In "Honkai Salvation Log", along with Ai Hyperion Λ, there are three versions of Ai-chan, each of whom is responsible for defending one of the modules for the game. Ai-chan [O] is the regular chibi version of Ai-chan, Ai-chan [E] has red hair and a frown, and Ai-chan [P] has gray hair and looks sad. They later explain that the letter designations represent aspects of Ai Hyperion Λ: [O] represents her being the original, [E] is energetic, and [P] is pessimistic.
  • Perpetual Expression: The small Ai-chans that help you in "Honkai Salvation Log" each have exactly one expression that never changes even when their sprite moves, which accentuates the comical effect. Ai-chan [O] looks happy, Ai-chan [E] looks angry, and Ai-chan [P] looks glum.
  • Rings of Death: Chrono Navi is the first battlesuit to actually use her Chakram as a thrown weapon like its real life counterpartnote
  • Team Mom: In "Honkai Salvation Log", when she's not assisting the Captain with the missions, she's wrangling the Ai-chan assistants and the Designer and trying to keep everything more or less on an even keel.

Alternative Title(s): Honkai Impact3rd Bronya Zaychik, Honkai Impact3rd Fu Hua
