A great game bogged down by an abysmal community

League Of Legends is the spiritual successor to legendary Warcraft3 mod Dot A, coming out a few years ago as a free to play game with its own client (as opposed to a mod) and purchasable content. The core of the game is very similar to Dot A which has since seen an official sequel and a number of other games that League has since popularized called MOB As.

League of Legends is a game of intense strategy, a relatively fair amount of balance with its system of checks and balances, and the company who makes it, Riot, is extremely active with their fans and constantly make adjustments and additions to their game, which has since grown into the Largest Game in the World.

While immensely fun, this game requires a team to function as a unit, and this means that finding a game in a queue will likely result in your team being unbalanced in skill. People in this game are known to have extremely short tempers especially towards bad play, resulting in a very difficult experience for people on losing teams. Not only that, but it has a fair number of griefers as well. Meaning you will only seldomly be grouped together with a good team opposite another good team to make a balanced game.

The community of this game is so full of attitude that it makes playing the game sometimes a miserable experience. It is a lot of fun and at its core is a great game for killing time, and hey, it's free. So give it a shot. Just be cautious of your own temper and your team mates.

I couldn't agree more with this review. I have a few friends who tried to get me into this game by playing it with me for awhile. However, they've been playing for several years in some cases and were getting restless hanging around in the lower level games with me, and asked me to practice up on my own so that we could all move on up to the higher levels.

I tried. I really did. And after my experience I said, "Sorry, guys, you all have fun, I'm going to go play another game." Those who are willing to tolerate the "newbs" in this game are few and far between. For most everyone else, don't you dare have only a handful of games under your belt. Don't you dare not know every single game mechanic like the back of your hand. Don't you dare make a single newbie mistake. They will rake you over the coals for it.

It really is a great game with nearly infinite variation, decent depth of strategy, and well-polished gameplay. I like the game. I just don't like it enough to put myself through the shit-gauntlet of impotent nerd rage.

The biggest problem with things like World Of Warcraft, Team Fortress Two, TV Tropes, or X Box Live is the annoying fanbase. All popular things have it to some extent. I can never find a good way to get away from it completely.

It's more justifiable in some cases than others though, it would be fun to draw up a scale and chart of crud communities versus each other. I'm not sure where I'd place them though, I think the X Box Live 13 year old is about the single worst offender but maybe Lol causes a more general and widespread hostility. Although TF 2 would be low on the list surely?

I admit that Team Fortress Two has it much better than, say, World Of Warcraft. I mostly listed it because some players will say it has none of that, even though it quite clearly has a lot (though still relatively low for a game with a userbase that large).

It's not really even the players fault so much, the reason Lo L gets such a bad rep/is pretty bad is basically because the competitive nature of the game means if someone is playing badly there's only so much you can do to change the outcome of the game so it's genuinely frustrating to be saddled with a player on a bad run, especially if it's going to go on for possibly 20minutes+

TF 2 doesn't have snowballing in the same way so it's not as bad and World Of Warcraft just has a very large player base who don't have to directly interact with you, so it's easier to put up with prats and easier to ignore them. It's not like Lo L has got a bad reputation compared to the other MOBA games, in fact Ho N and stuff are meant to be worse
