Gerazzi reviews Whateley

I've really been putting this off but I suppose that I owe it to people who are actually interested in this series. I play a game with someone called "Internet Glory" the rules are as follows:

  • First person with five points wins.
  • No NSFW content can be linked.
  • One link per email.
  • One challenge per email.
  • Upon completion of a challenge, you get one point.
  • If you fail the challenge, you lose a point.
To this day, if you search my username on google images you'll probably come across some questionable content. But that aside, one day he linked me this story.

I'll just get this right off the bat: I don't like this series as a whole. The idea of the series is that this is a school for super-powered students... But the problem is that the mechanics of gaining said powers is at best inconsistent and at worst illogical.

Allow me to explain. Here are some of the different ways you can apparently get superpowers in this universe:

But here's the thing: Why is there both science and magic? Magic is illogical, it bends the laws of reality, correct? Working with the highly unstable substance surely wouldn't allow any sort of scientific laws surrounding it, and if it did, they would be centered around MAGIC, considering that it would be semi-natural, RIGHT? Another annoying thing is the fact that there are a ridiculous number of Mary Sues in this series. I never quite got over it. They always win. They never lose. I'm certain in fact that this is just all condensed Author Appeal.

I'm sure if you're into that sort of thing, Not That Theres Anything Wrong With That, you could enjoy this series. But as is, I remain unimpressed as there could be a lot more done with the characters that simply isn't done.

What? I can't really understand the point your trying to make, or what you main complaint is. No offense, but it sounds like you were drunk when you wrote this.

I can't understand what you're trying to say here. The main thrust of your argument seems to be that magic can't exist in a universe with science, which doesn't make any sense.

@comment 2: I agree with you, and there is something that should be brought to the OP's attention: [[Arcanum]]. In that world, they oppose each other, and is a mighty contender for the title of Most Triumphant Example of the Magic Versus Science trope. Read more at the game's page.
