Cheesy but fun

First thing's first, is it a good as Star War? No.

It may be Lucas's story but its important to not think about all the baggage that entails.

As the film itself, its one of those films that has a dozen caveats that will prevent you from enjoying it.

Do you not like children's animated films? Do you hate Jukebox Musicals? Are you bored by love stories? Do kaleidoscopes frighten you? Are you a racist? This film may not be for you.

Spoilers, etc: For the people who can enjoy the film, it mostly works. Roland turning out to be a cheating jerk is a nice way to establish the tone of the film but barring that, the first half of the film feels typical. An onslaught of covers designed to establish character traits. Obvious villain, obvious heroes.

The midpoint is where the film reveals its true colors and that's where you'll have to decide whether you like the film or not. The Bog King and Marianne starting to flirt with each other is the biggest twist of the film. Its pretty silly and a lot of people won't be able to accept it. But if you do, the film is mostly a better Beauty and the Beast story. The film does a good job of selling the idea that their love is based around similar personalities overcoming their different appearances. They're both violent emotionally closed off grumps who overreacted to their love problems and therefore are perfect for each other. There's something touching about watching two very strange people find someone else as messed up as them.

On the other hand, Sunny and Dawn's romance is settled far too quickly. We get to see Sunny risk his life because of his love for Dawn but she has no buildup or hint that she likes him until her love epiphany. Still, if you can just treat it like a minor distraction the way the film does, it isn't too much of a problem.

I give it a odd but fun/10.
