Question: what's all this about UU troll guessing? When was there a troll with a chumhandle-abbreviation of UU? When was any troll with 'UU' associated with them mentioned?
Hide / Show RepliesSo late to answer this, but there's a lot of reasons. The symbol for Ophiuchus, the thirteenth sign of the Zodiac, looks like a U with a ~ through it, and since all the GCAT combinations for chumhandles were used up, it's been proposed that they'd have a name involving the letter U for uracil, which replaces thymine in RNA.
The only thing remotely resembling evidence for it in canon is a bonus track off Radiation's Alteria album called The Thirteenth Hour, subtitled in the liner notes as UU's Theme. This is deuterocanonical at best, and when asked about it Radiation said he knew nothing about any future plot developments and made the song to encourage speculation, so take it with a big grain of salt.
Is there a difference between "Unsorted Guesses" and "Other"?
Hide / Show RepliesUnsorted was the old Unified / stuff that shoved in there. Other is specifically about characters in that section.
Is it okay to deleted repeated WMG's? There are at least 5 'Bec will be prototyped' guesses alone, and they look pretty redundant sitting right next to each other.
Edited by blasphemy Hide / Show RepliesThis page is being split due to length. It has reached a size where it is in danger of causing server performance issues. See this thread for details.
To alleviate this, I will split off the current content along the lines of the current folder structure. New examples should be placed in the appropriate sub-pages.

Hide / Show RepliesPeople don't make wild mass guesses for the sake of having an anonymous internet person declare them 'confirmed', 'jossed' or 'this is just stupid'. That's just five kinds of obnoxious.
I don't see how putting a confirmed WMG in a confirmed folder to keep a very long page organized is obnoxious.
If you objected to the "THIS IS STUPID" name then we could have just changed it to "Epileptic Trees" or something since all of those were unlikely to ever be confirmed and most (if not all) the writers of those guesses knew that from the start. And if you objected to one of your guesses being put in that section, you could have just moved it to the unconfirmed folder. No need to delete everything.
derp derp derpIt's not the nomenclature; it's the judging of other people's guesses that's obnoxious. People guess for fun, they don't do it to have judgment pronounced by anonymous strangers according to criteria that didn't exist at the time.
If you're consumed by the need to organise the page, you could sort them by group (guesses about exiles, guesses about the kids, etc.) or topic (guesses about the setting, guesses about characters, etc.)
I didn't delete anything.
For the record, I have no problem with my own Jossed WMGs being organized as such. I don't see how that in itself should be problematic.
I think a section for confirmed and disproved theories should be just fine, no "judgement" necessary. If there really was a section labeled "THIS IS STUPID", though, then yeah, that was going a bit far given the tongue-in-cheek nature of WMG.
Edited by MajutsukaiTHIS IS STUPID is a gag regarding somethings stupidity in Homestuck.
Given the nature of the content and the page it was on it wasn't entirely a bad idea.
Personally, I like using a gag from Homestuck, but THIS IS STUPID does come across as a bit harsh. Maybe BLUH BLUH or something would be better?
Probably. But in this discussion, I would probably have been in favor of "THIS IS STUPID", quotes included.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."The folderization really needs to be added again. The page is monstrously long, it needs some kind of organization. Perhaps add "confirmed" and "jossed" folders, then sort things according to category? (Like this page)
Something along the lines of the Mardek folderization would surely be acceptable. I can't see anyone deleting it, at the very least, and this page needs the organization. The main question is who's willing to go through the work of classifying all the guesses.
Edited by SomeGuy See you in the discussion pages.I agree Comfirmed and Jossed folders would be acceptable—and I'm sure most other people think so too—but the classification was deemed "obnoxious" by somebody and it was one of the reasons why the folders were removed last time. It is not percieved to be obnoxious by anyone except that one person. It is also obnoxious to delete legitimate classification you and you alone believe is obnoxious. Do not delete the folders. We need the organization badly. This would be a simple and effective way to do so.
I'll volunteer to classify all this junk Marduk style. It's worth noting though that Mardek's page is a relatively sane, easily manageable size (5144 words) and Homestuck's is literally the size of a short novel (40225 words). I am not even kidding; it is 56 pages single-spaced, size 12 Times New Roman in Microsoft Word, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the longest, if not THE longest, WMG page on TV Tropes. This is going to take a rather long time to do and it would go a lot faster if there were a few people working in tandem on it. Also, the sheer length will probably require a lot of splitting and possibly including the dreaded Jossed folder out of necessity.
derp derp derpI'm somewhat ignorant of TV Tropes culture, so for the sake of indulging my curiosity, I must ask: Why is a Jossed folder "dreaded"? I think it's interesting to read things that people may have thought before their theory was explicitly jossed, even if their point is now moot. And I really don't see why people would be offended by it — whether or not a theory has been confirmed or jossed is objective fact and no something to feel ashamed about.
Edited by FoolsEditAccountThis is the argument I attempted to make, to no apparent avail. It's "judging" WMGs for some reason.
Edited by MajutsukaiAs far as I know no official personage in TV Tropes has declared Jossed guesses to be somehow bad. If anyone tries to delete anything under the argument that they are I would suggest taking the matter to Wiki Talk, as Jossed theories are a matter of objective fact and not sniping.
See you in the discussion pages.Should we try and get rid of the WMG's that are patently wrong or confirmed? You know, just to slim things down a bit. I don't mean to ruin anyone's fun, or be rude, but we can get rid of some of these, right?
Edited by Drunkenlemur Hide / Show RepliesThere is a whole lot of friction against this sort of thing from a few users, so that's going to be a no.
Oh man, but we should do SOMETHING. This page is like, the biggest WMG I've ever seen. It has all of the WMG. All of it.
I don't see why we shouldn't have separate sections for Jossed and Confirmed WMG. I mean, Order Of The Stick does it, why not Homestuck?
Ninjacrat got pissy last time we tried that and undid it. Most everyone thought that he was being unreasonable, though. Since then it's more that no one has been willing to take the time to organize it.
Well, I already started. So thanks for the vote of confidence. I'm gonna just keep doing it and see if he does anything.
Okay, I've made a bunch of folders, organised in a similar way to the character sheets. Now no-one can get pissy about organisation ruining the pureness of their fun.
Removed this:
Because it's not actually WMG, just an observation.
I moved Midnight Crew, the Felt and Agents to the Sprites page, so we waste less space, is there anyway to change the pages title too?
