I'd challenge the Misfits example unless one of the show's creators actually mentioned Red Dwarf as an inspiration for Rudy's powers, because "Confidence and Paranoia" was considerably different- Confidence seemed like a fun-loving nice guy until he turned out to be crazy, and Paranoia was a slimy whiny (although at least sane) jerk rather than a quiet nice guy, and neither was actually a copy of Lister at all, both looking completely different to him.
Always expect the worst and you can only be pleasantly surprised.
