It seems like this list should be about oh, a million times longer than it is. Are we including every film that came from a book, or only ones that meet a narrower qualification?
I'm not sure where this could go (maybe in the intro?) but it seems like, just reading the examples, the less "real" the movie is, the more faithful it is. For instance, when Hollywood tried to turn Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and We Can Remember it For You Wholesale into gritty action flicks, they completely changed everything. But when Linklater used his crazy roto-scoping on A Scanner Darkly, he brought it to life. Same for the Roald Dahl's that are mentioned: both James and Giant Peach and The Fantastic Mr. Fox use strange animation, and are more faithful than most adaptations. Again, maybe something about this could go in the intro (or maybe it needs its own trope).
Hide / Show RepliesIt's partially because some stuff just does not look good in a live-action adaptation. Particularly surreal, silly stuff.
