they may be robots going to war, they may be turning against their masters, but the war against their masters ended upwards of 50000 years ago in story.

I don't believe Necrons are a good example of this. They're less true robots and more the souls of organic beings in a mechanical shell.
Personally I'd suggest something out of terminator.

It is also quite out of context. It would be better if we could see the Necrons fighting humans.

Not an example. This is "When intelligent machines turn against their creators." — misleading title.
- The War Against The Chtorr. An invasion of the United States is wiped out by mechanimal killing machines (prowlers, spybirds, spiders, balrogs and torpedo-fish are mentioned) which also aid the Earth forces in their attempts to combat the Alien Invasion.
That's an awesome Necron pic, but is that really an example? Necrons aren't robots. "THE METAL LIVES."
