A large number of the examples in Other seem to be YMMV. For example, e = -1 follows intuitively from Euler's formula, which is easy to derive. The same goes for four-dimensional shapes such as the tesseract (coordinate geometry pretty much works the same way as 3 dimensions), and also infinities (it seems obvious how some infinities are larger than others). These all seem to be intuitive once you understand how they work.

Too many examples on these pages are really more for Widget Series than Mind Screw. I'm not saying there can't be silly Mind Screw too, for example Problem Sleuth is a great example, but Word-Salad Humor and other "random wacky" nonsense doesn't really fit this trope as it doesn't confuse you regarding the plot/events in most cases.

"shonen has EVA, shojo has Revolutionary Girl Utena, and seinen has Serial Experiments Lain." Does anyone know any mind screws in Josei? the only one i can find is Amatsuki but that don't seem to have any mind screw in the anime. :(

Was thinking that when I just read the description of Serial Experiments Lain. I guess the search is still ongoing?

This page is being split due to length. It has reached a size where it is in danger of causing server performance issues. See this thread for details.

To alleviate this, I will split off the current content along the lines of the current folder structure.

I understand that apparently a partial split was done in the past, with some examples left out. I believe I have caught them all this time. If you see any that were missed, please add them to the appropriate subpages instead of reverting the main page.

James Bond movies are fairly self-explanatory but the intro sequences? Wow. Do they count?

I can see why someone would think it fun to add LOL RANDOM stuff to the Mind Screw page. Deleting valid examples and quotes to do it, though? Not cool.

I've gone back through the edit history and reverted the changes from the 153.107.33.* and 153.107.97.* IP ranges since 6th Sep 2010. There's also been vandalism/blanking of other pages from those IP addresses during that period :(

Putting this here because it really doesn't belong in the main page, it's way too long and doesn't exactly add anything to the topic, but I got a wild hair and spent time on it. So you guys get to see it.

Note that this is RE: the Pokemon topic in the Fan Works section.

Domestic PIKACHU appeared! ... PIKACHU learned ENGLISH! ... PIKACHU learned HORRORS OF MANKIND! ... PIKACHU learned EXISTENTIAL CRISIS! ... PIKACHU is trying to learn THOUSAND YARD STARE

But PIKACHU can’t learn more

than four moves.

Delete an existing move to make

room for THOUSAND YARD STARE?

Is it OK to make this Pokemon forget the move HOPE?

1, 2, and... ...Poof!

PIKACHU forgot HOPE.

And… PIKACHU learned THOUSAND YARD STARE! ... Trainer sent out ONIX!

ONIX used TACKLE!

It's not very effective...

PIKACHU used THOUSAND YARD STARE!

ONIX used ROCK TOMB!

It's not very effective...

PIKACHU used EXISTENTIAL CRISIS!

It's super effective!

ONIX has been defeated!

Trainer sent out GEODUDE!

PIKACHU used EXISTENTIAL CRISIS!

It's super effective!

GEODUDE has been defeated!

Trainer sent out GOLEM

PIKACHU used EXISTENTIAL CRISIS!

It's super effective!

GOLEM has been defeated! ... PIKACHU is trying to learn DISILLUSIONMENT

But PIKACHU can’t learn more

than four moves.

Delete an existing move to make

room for DISILLUSIONMENT?

Is it OK to make this Pokemon forget the move ENGLISH?

1, 2, and... ...Poof!

PIKACHU forgot ENGLISH.

And... PIKACHU learned DISILLUSIONMENT! ... Yeah, not sure about the last 4 panels, as Pikachu forgot English and I can't read Japanese. Something about becoming a horror trainer himself and using his training skill on a human baby perhaps?

For a mind screw, this seems almost coherent to me. But then again, maybe I'm just weird. Probably that.

Would the music video for Just by Radiohead be considered this? Or is it some other trope? Or both?

Yes, though it may also fall into Fridge Brilliance if you find out what he says in the end.

Should things like this be included on the trope page? ; http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.190531-Poll-Does-your-tounge-rest-high-or-low-in-your-mouth

The response of everyone in the topic seems to be mind-screw if you ask me (including myself). Would the whole "pointing out something you never noticed before and now you can't stop thinking about it" thing count?
