You're not wrong. I created this trope WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back nearly a decade ago, long before there were more strict guidelines about what a trope needs. The thought has occurred to me many times over the years.

Here's the thing though: I honestly can't find any more insight to expand the trope description with. All I know is that it's a well established trope in Japanese media, specifically the culture surrounding anime, manga, and video games. It's a strong and healthy trope that cannot be cut, but I haven't been able to find any more research on where it got started or why or any other sort of explanation for it.
