And it's not that they're *forgetting* the emotional definition of 'little brothers', they're just not saying it out loud.
The humor in the lyrics is a Bait-and-Switch. The audience might expect "you'll always be my little brothers" to be followed up with "because I love you" or something similar, but instead the song gives the literal definition of a little brother, raising the implication that the boys will always be Candace's little brothers regardless of her feelings toward them (which is true, but at odds with what one may expect from the tone of the song). Yes, the song is heartwarming, but that doesn't mean it can't also be humorous.
Even if the lyrics were not actually intended by the writers to be funny in some form (which I doubt), it's not difficult to see how a humorous interpretation could arise from them, and more importantly, the fact remains that someone found it funny enough to include on this page. It doesn't matter whether all audience members agree it is funny or whether the original intent of the creators was for it to be funny; this is a page based on opinion. As long as someone found it funny and cared enough to add it to this page, it counts. (Although, granted, in examples where the humor may be unconventional or obscure it may be preferable that they provide some explanation, which in this case they did by linking to Shaped Like Itself).
Somebody should arrange this into chronological order. I would take the time to do this, but unfortunately I have a job.
Hide / Show RepliesI would do it, but any time I'm on the editing page of TV tropes for more than 30 seconds, it freezes.
Why are the lyrics "'Cause you're younger, we're related, and you're boys" of "Little Brothers" on this page? They're intended to be heartwarming, and it's very common in songs to repeat a concept with different wording.
