Edit War entry pulled to the discussion:

  • Alternative Calendar: The series begins in the year 845 of the local calendar. This implies that the world was Hit So Hard, the Calendar Felt It nearly seven hundred and fifty years before the Titans appeared and started eating everyone. While the world resembles some sort of alternate Earth After the End, this has remained ambiguous so far. The title of the first chapter, "To you, in 2000 years", is likewise unexplained and does not match the standard names assigned to subsequent chapters of the series. As such, its meaning and significance are a great mystery of the series and a source of much speculation.

Sorry you had to step in on this, but hopefully this can be resolved peacefully.

I honestly don't think there needs to be further elaboration, as there really isn't anything within the source material other than a mysterious chapter title. We don't know what the title means or refers to, so anything beyond the above really is speculation. As with any series that loves making us confused, we need to be cautious about including unproven/unverified stuff in the main entries.

Anyone else have thoughts on it?

Well, that and the fact that Asia exists in the Sn K world.

True enough. Right now, I think it's fair to assume that the world of the series does have relation to Earth, but we don't know exactly how. It isn't clear if it's an alternate history, some dark future, or what. As such, I don't think presenting the "It takes place in the future" theory as a fact is a good idea. I think leaving it ambiguous without any definite statements is best, since right now we don't know when/where the series takes place.

I'm going to wait until we get E Kono Mai's side of this before arbitrating.

That makes sense. Again, I'm sorry this ended up involving a mod.

I'm not saying it definitely takes place in the future - just saying that it's implied it is, via the wording from that first chapter and the repeated discussions about how humanity fell (several times) when the titans appeared. Just leaving it at 'implied to be in the future' from the wording would be okay. Other pages do allow implications from the text, so.

I do know what you're talking about, E Kono Mai. The issue I have is that that is only one of multiple theories concerning those lines and the first chapter title. Some people think it may be some dark future, while others think it is an alternate history. Since the implications are so vague and have resulted in multiple readings, I don't think we should list one particular theory on it.

I wouldn't be opposed to a neutral-toned mention of those theories, but in this case we're talking about something that leaves a lot of room for guessing.
