As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
closed Would it be possible to implement some sort of colour change mechanism to the site?
Due to a very particular disorder of the eye, the present layout with it being largely white and gray is hurting my eyes. While night vision does aid me, it is still very difficult to use the site on it in certain sections.
Would it be possible to add in some sort of mechanism to change colour theme, such as a list of various colour options imposed on the site as is?
closed Reduce Sidebar Width
The sidebar takes up 1/4+ of the page width. This is a little too wide for easy browsing.
closed Classic view option
Not so much as completely rolling back the changes, but could something be added to allow us to view the site before this most recent update? The "TV Tropes 1. 3 Released!" thread is basically an echo chamber of people asking to change it back because the new design is boring, gray and looks sloppy.
closedRe-add the option for a left hand side menu?
It just looks horible with the menu on the left hand side, every thing is right hand loaded and it just bothersome, is there any chance for the option to re-add the option to flip menu side?
closed Bullet that shows when a non-YMMV Trope is on the YMMV page.
This is kind of unrelated to everything going on at the moment, but this would be a really useful feature for spotting non-YMMV tropes that are mistakenly posted to the YMMV page. Considering we have the same for the reverse, it seems reasonable to have this as a helpful edit tool as well.
closed Font size on mobile
In the new layout, the font size on mobile (ios running safari) is significantly larger than it was before, and it would be nice to have an option to reduce the font size back to what it was before.
workingLive post preview with a rich text editor
We've got a preview post button, so maybe a live preview? With rich text editor. And bouncing on from that, live pages. Either a notification while composing a post (eg TWO new posts) or live previews of the new posts.
closed Mobile site scrolling header
Hi, could you put in a way to turn off the scrolling header in mobile, I'm visually impared, so I tend to zoom in on my phone a lot, and the scrolling header makes it kinda annoying.
closed Lots of little forum fixes.
The sidebar attached to each forum post that contains the avatar, user title, and badges appears to be sized to fit the 100px avatars, which is okay on desktop, but is way too wide when reading the forum on a phone screen in portrait orientation, and is super-annoying if you're looking at a longer post◊ (which Writer's Block, where I mostly keep to, consists primarily of). If avatars on mobile could be reduced to display at 50x50 like how they are on this wishlist and the bug reporter, and then moved up above the forum post in the post header, alongside the username, location, timestamp, and post actions, that would make for much easier reading.
closed Sub-Pages are lacking colors
I really miss the old layout for the sub-pages such as the Tear Jerker subpages being completely light and dark blue, Nightmare Fuel being black and grey, and Heartwarming along with the Sugar Wiki subpages being pink. I hope the site will bring back that option? I understand why the pages are white, but I would love to see those layouts return in a future Tv Tropes update.
closed Get rid of the scrollbar when viewing a PM.
This is a years-old thing. (It's also a PM I wrote, before any of you jump on me for publicly displaying the contents of a PM.)◊ But if you're reading a really long PM, it would be nice to not have to read it in a tiny little scrollbox, if it was just displayed in full like how ATT queries and forum posts are displayed.
closed Monospace editor font
The switch to using a sans-serif font in the editor, identical to the one used for viewable pages, makes it look like everything will appear exactly as you typed it. Without a distinct "code font" it's not clear that what you're typing is code.
And, well, there's a reason code is always written in monospace. It makes the important elements like square brackets stand out, thereby making the code easier to read; by contrast a variable-width font downplays them.
closed PMs difficult to read due to bad background colour
As reported to me over PM, they have white text on light gray background in night mode.
closed Tone down the brightness in Night Vision?
I like the new layout, except for the indexes at the bottom of the screen. In Night Vision it's like blindingly bright, I can't read the name of the index or the two tropes it suggests without zooming in and squinting. Is there a way to tone it down? Or at least make the color of the texts darker and more readable?
closed Pagination unclear on ATT, BUGS and WISHLIST
It's not clear on which page you are on or whether there are more pages of reports if you scroll down to the page bottom.
closed Old Random Buttons
The new Random buttons look both childish and three decades old; they don't go with the new look, in regular or Night Vision. I miss the dice.
As requested here, for navigability reasons.
