I understand that it's hard to get into these because they very rarely have subtitles, and many don't even have recordings at all. But is anyone else a fan of musicals besides Broadway and the West End?

(Actually London has been getting into global things recently, with productions of Marie Curie, Death Note: The Musical, and Your Lie In April. The 2023 Japan production of the French musical of Le Rouge et Le Noir had a British director and choreographer, and had some workshops in London, which makes me wonder if it will be headed there soon.)

Elisabeth and Mozart! are probably the most famous, but there's much more beyond those.

Some that have pages here:

Of course, Takarazuka Revue has been doing original musicals throughout their 100+ year history. I've omitted a lot of items from the "Theatre of the ——'s" lists where the link just goes to the manga, with a note that says Takarazuka did a musical of it, with no information. If you're interested, googling "Takarazuka wiki" will give you a few English resources that I don't know enough about to say which is the best.

And of course, there's 2.5D series like Musical Touken Ranbu, The Prince of Tennis, etc., where a lot of great actors have gotten started.

Some noteworthy European composers have been working in Korea and Japan recently, too. Beethoven Secret by the composers of Elisabeth and Mozart!, premiered in 2023, in Korea in January and then in Japan in the fall. The JoJo musical is by the composer of 1789 and Legende du Roi Arthur who also premiered a musical of Arsene Lupin in Japan.

A lot of great things don't have TV Tropes pages, but hopefully some of those red links will turn blue at some point.

I live in Japan and speak Japanese, but I don't speak Korean, and there are so many Korean musicals that I want to see but I just have to wait and hope they come here. There's a musical about Agatha Christie, a musical of Ben-Hur, and so many others! So if anyone knows a good English resource for Korean musicals, please share! Hopefully more of them will get international productions.

Please recommend more, ask questions, link videos, create pages, and all that! I'll add to the list in this post with your recommendations and support any pages you want to create for works that don't have them.
