A musical loosely based on the classic novel. Victor Frankenstein has always had a close bond with his friend Henri, but when Henri sacrifices himself to save Victor, Victor decides that this is the moment to bring his long-held dream of creating life to fruition, and attempts to bring him back. It doesn't work out, and the monster, rejected by his creator, wanders off into the world and finds many familiar faces in the underbelly of the city.The musical premiered in 2014 in South Korea, and has had several runs and productions in other countries.
This show provides examples of:
- And You Were There: The act 2 characters are all played by the same actors as the act 1 characters, and are intentionally in contrast with them.
- Came Back Wrong: The monster has Henri's body, but he is not Henri.
- Deathly Dies Irae: "The Grand Beginning of the History of the Creation of Life" features some.
- Death Song: "In Your Dreams", when Henri goes to the guillotine.
- Long-Haired Pretty Boy:
- Henri, both as himself (with a ponytail), and as the monster (with his hair out)
- Jacques has long, purple hair in the Korean production.
- Off with His Head!: Henri goes to the guillotine in Victor's place, singing proudly about their friendship.
- Sanity Slippage Song: The Grand Beginning of the History of the Creation of Life, in which Victor puts his plans into motion to resurrect Henri.
- Spiky Hair: In the Toho production, Jacques has one massive spike, usually covered by his hat.
