So over 10 years ago or so, we used to have a newsletter called Trope Report, which covers all of the changes that happened on the wiki weekly. I have been nostalgic for it recently so I thought of it and it seemed to be a fun way to inform tropers about the changes going on around the wiki.
The sandbox for the project can be found at Sandbox.Trope Report Dummy Edition and the sandbox for ideas/plans can be found on Sandbox.Trope Report Ideas. After a new issue is published, revert the Dummy Edition back to a template using the text on Sandbox.Trope Report Template.

*Think*Think*Think* Work Spotlight
If we highlight a work page for every medium, then that's going to be a very long section. We have over fifty different medium namespaces. What if it was the work counterpart to "new trope"? Work pages added in the past year? New Work Spotlight.
Pages Needing Help doesn't need a name change to accommodate the splitting, but I will try to focus on older work articles for each month.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.My outbox also shows that I pinged crazy and ironist successfully. It appears pinging an all-lowercase non-wikiwordable handle without the {{ }} markup just doesn't turn the handle into a link.
The multiple-media suggestion was my idea on how to make this section representative — with hundreds of thousands of work pages, it seemed a little sad that we'd only be doing, say, one video game a month and then one film the next month. I wasn't thinking in namespaces so much as broad categories (like the folders you'd see on an average trope page: (anime/comics/fanworks/film animated/film live action/literature/live-action tv/music/video games/webcomics/western animation). But I understand this is a lot of work and new works are definitely also worth plugging.

I've been summoned. Let me look things over and I'll sign up soon.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessSo, I haven't been too active here, but I'm still supportive of this project (I know I said I'm not a tropes guy, but I do have probably a bit of time and other interests).
I'd also like to know, is the design finalised? If not, I've just came up with an idea for a section for potential search engine improvement ideas, which I'd be the writer of. I'd probably study the recent trends, nostalgia, or lack of coverage which could impact our search engine ranks and what to work on/improve. I think such a section would be important since we have fallen 2500 places over 3 months and there was this ATT yesterday.
I know this is a little sudden and I haven't been too active at my Wiki Improvement for Search Engine Popularity and Traffic thread (partly due to severe lack of feedback and help), but I'd probably work a little better since I'd know I actually have a deadline and it probably wouldn't be too hard. Please tell me your thoughts. If this is not a good idea, I guess I'll stick to that thread if I manage to.

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)Maybe a good thing would be to highlight a work that Surprisingly Has a Page, or to highlight an obscure work that one of us finds interesting.
Rock'n'roll never dies!Signed up.
Agreed we still need to find more topics, and I'm wondering if it's one-troper-per-category or if categories can have multiple tropers working on them.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessDefinitely think having more than one person per category would be good, in case someone cant make a deadline and so it’s less up to one person’s bias (we all have them )
Fair enough. Maybe 2-3 works per entry would be another thing to consider. Could apply to the other categories.
Once we finalize everything we should definitely let other non-editors pitch potential entrants somehow.

Well, if we'd want more than one troper per one section, it'd be difficult for me to find a partner as very few people seem to have the ability to look at the wiki from a SEO/popularity standpoint (the person who brought up the issue about our standings to me seems gone now). Still, at least I know that more categories could be welcome, even if I don't think I have received any concrete feedback (have I done something wrong?).

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)I got more than one ping from this thread.
I signed up for a thing. Is this recurring or one-time, and what’s the deadline?
"It's just a show; I should really just relax"It's recurring. All we need to do is try and discuss how this is formatted and figure out how to broadcast this.
Rock'n'roll never dies!Personally, something about "how to boost our popularity" sounds too nebulous to be a recurring part of it. What types of entries did you have in mind?
Lu has already answered how to broadcast it: it'll be announced via bulletin for some time.
Other things to discuss:
- How often? Monthly seems fine to start.
- When do y'all want to start? Is December too soon? We could also do January for like a "new year, new newsletter" type of first issue

I don't mind your idea Piter, I'm just not 100% sure how it'd work. But it'd be your role, not mine, so I don't really have to have a great understanding of your idea.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI thought about doing it bi-weekly but monthly will probably be better.
I think starting in January sounds good.
Macron's notesYeah, I was thinking we could start with monthly while we find our groove. If it turns out that there's a surplus of ideas, then we can up it to biweekly.
Also again so it doesn't get buried: sign up at Sandbox.Trope Report.
Should we do another ATT announcement now that there's a signup sheet?

I think the idea of what'd boost our popularity would be:
- What's popular, even for certain more niche groups, like Sword Fight which is one game many people who are left on Kongregate are still playing.
- What's nostalgic, like Your Favorite Martian which I've been expanding lately and have received YouTube comments from people who are nostalgic about songs, or the Henry Stickmin Series which saw a resurgence of players with the Steam collection (also what's popular).
- What's related to current topical issues, like games related to the COVID-19 pandemic like Covid99io, or media related to abortion (obviously not actual squick material, just related to them as that was a big thing in Poland for some time).
- What could be improved because we lack coverage of them, like Polish comic books, Java mobile phone games, or Japanese adventure games.
- What could be useful for people who go to school or potential work related purposes, like a page on The Wedding by Stanisław Wyspiański, I had it in Polish class as reading material but it doesn't have a page.
As for the rest, I agree with starting in January and posting monthly for now.

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)I get it, but it still seems a little nebulous to me. Why not integrate it into Work Spotlight? crazy has suggested making it "obscure works", and I suggested plugging multiple works at a time.
Cross-posting from the search traffic thread:
I'm thinking of making Film. The Problem With Apu (or at least advertising the opportunity on List of Shows That Need Summary, as I already did). It had quite a bit of buzz when it first aired nearly 3 years ago, and actually grabbed the attention of the writers and voice actors of The Simpsons. I'm surprised nobody made a page for it already (maybe because nobody feels like they can write about the subject matter very well, but I understand).
Maybe for the work page spotlight, we could do some Meaningful Release Dates. For example, we could spotlight this page on November 19th (the day it first aired on truTV) or sometime in May (Asian-American Heritage Month).
Definitely. This doc comes up every time we explain Apu's Base-Breaking Character status among the South Asian community, and it would help if the page were to be made.

Rock'n'roll never dies!Maybe something from List of Shows That Need Summary could be a good column? Like "here's a frequent Red Link'd page, anyone want to make it?"

If we could integrate into Work Spotlight somehow, I'd be fine with that. Still, Work Spotlight saying "What it says on the tin." on the sandbox seems even more nebulous as there may be many different works that deserve spotlight and I've at least tried to narrow it down, but yeah, it's an idea. Also agreed that a segment trying to give attention to works from List of Shows That Need Summary that'd really need it would be brilliant (Raid: Shadow Legends is one, 3 redlinks outside of that page is still a noticeable amount).

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)I'm going to need a refresher on this, please? I've been so busy the last few months that I kinda forgot what this is about.
This is a project to revive the old Trope Report newsletter we had 10 years ago and so that we can have an efficient way to inform of what is going on wiki/forum and to bring spotlight to certain pages and projects.
Macron's notesFrankly, the world is our oyster when it comes to what we choose to spotlight. That’s the whole point and I have no issue with featuring multiple works or tropes at a time. But “this work deserves a push for reasons XYZ” is to me a lot more concrete than “a page for this will make us popular”. That’s why I’d rather lump.
“Upcoming Work Spotlight” might be another category to consider. I also thought of “Creator Spotlight” for actors, artists, writers, V As etc.
Edited by Synchronicity on Nov 14th 2020 at 7:58:46 PM
But I did give concrete reasons for why a work may make us popular, so "this work will make us popular for reasons XYZ and should be featured" (switch places of the words 7-9 and 10-13 if needed). Of course, if they are acceptable reasons for regular work spotlight, that's fine, they'd probably be the ones I'd be guided by when I add stuff (because yeah, I could be a partner there).
As for "Upcoming Work Spotlight", definitely not. I myself would be fine with it, but people who do all the upcoming work cleanups would probably get furious that we're basically trying to undermine their thing with trying to keep those work pages clean and under their rules (after all, I remember when Sandbox.Future Works was created, people originally didn't want it to index works to not bring more attention to them, but it was eventually fixed). I just don't think it's worth the risk to encourage people to make pages that they'll want to cut if they're subpar anyway. "Creator Spotlight" sounds interesting, especially for rising stars or recently dead people.

Now, this is odd... I actually did get the automatic PM from Synch.
Monthly newsletter to highlight different parts of the wiki and encourage more community participation. Editors requested for each column. The mods have agreed that when an "issue" is delivered, it will be a bulletin for one week. Link to TRS threads in project mode here.
