Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.
It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine
They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.
I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

Explanation of what triggers the too-long page warning
Edited by kory on Dec 18th 2023 at 2:36:21 AM
QuoteSource.Video Games is giving the warning.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadSplit off the two franchises that were taking up more than a screen on mobile even in View Source mode, but downloading the page still produces a file nearly 750 KB in size. That doesn't mean we need to cut down the page by 250 KB since that includes stuff that doesn't count towards the limit, but it's still going to require cutting it down by a lot.
Edit: The largest remaining sections are, in alphabetical order, Dragon Age, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Fire Emblem, The Legend of Zelda, Metal Gear, Pokémon, Splatoon, and Team Fortress 2. If any of those would be too small for their own page, split the whole thing alphabetically, otherwise split all of those.

JustForFun.Grand Unified Timeline The Near Past And Future was added to the list. Since the “near future” part is growing closer and closer to being outdated, maybe it can be split into the 2010s and 2020s?

QuoteSource.Live Action TV is giving the warning. I split off QuoteSource.A Song Of Ice And Fire, but the warning's still there.
I split off Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and Pokemon but QuoteSource.Video Games is still giving the warning. Do we want to split it alphabetically?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread- Fire Emblem?
Grand Theft Auto?
Both are about a page long for me?
The Legend of Zelda seems longer?
- Babylon 5?
The Big Bang Theory?
How I Met Your Mother?
Remove the OnceDoneNeverForgotten.Live Action TV redlink?
Mystery Science Theater 3000?
- Travel safe~!

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576I will make a page for those when I get home.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadYou might want to see my post above, I concluded that all the franchises/works I mentioned would need to be split off to get rid of the suggestion notice (though I think Metal Gear, Pokémon, and I want to say the third was Fire Emblem actually had the same number of bullet points so you might not need to get rid of all of them).
For Live-Action TV, only MST3K, Burn Notice, and Friends need to be split.

"Groundhog Day" Loop now has the banner.
"Anemone dear, I know you want to be more independent from me, but... please take care, okay?"split Live-Action TV and Video Games? They seem to be the longest.
Live-Action TV and Video Games appear to be the culprits. Would it help to give them subpages?
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Just a doubt, is immediately splitting the pages really necessary? The warning is just a suggestion for now.
- Do you think it can shrink? Unlike other tropes, "Groundhog Day" Loop doesn't seem to have any subtropes that it could be cleaned into?
But since the servers aren't going to crash because of page length, do we know anything about the users with the lowest internet speeds and how these long pages affect them?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576Okay took care of the warnings on both the Quote Source Video Game and Live Action TV pages.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadThat One Sidequest is giving the too long warning. Role-Playing Games and Platform Games seem to be the longest folders, so I'd split those off.
That's also a good idea!

"Anemone dear, I know you want to be more independent from me, but... please take care, okay?"Maybe do like video games and split them alphabetically
Whether by genre or title idk
If Time Loop Fatigue is, as it says, a "Groundhog Day" Loop subtrope, then cleaning "Groundhog Day" Loop of the overlap might make it short enough to allow reversing the split?
But is it a subtrope?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576"Groundhog Day" Loop isn't the only form of time loop, Stable Time Loop is also mentioned. Not that I see how it's going to help with example cleaning, and also may not be for this place to decide trope relations.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupOctopath Traveler II is showing the warning. What should we do?
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/ASplit by Route, because that's the split which makes it easiest for readers to find their targets?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576@3368-9: My inclination is to continue to split by genre as there are already three genre split pages, but something like half the page is the Unsorted section so I don't know how much that helps. (Also, the biggest genre folder might actually be for Giallo, one of two folders that seem to be for foreign-language/country-specific genres populated by a single troper.)
I say it depends on which seems like it would be easier and cleaner
Genre or title
Or maybe we decide to split off those within a genre folder from the unsorted ones
Characters.Dragonlance and Characters.Fate Grand Order Avengers is showing a warning that its becoming too long.
