• Ass Pull: The Governor letting the rebels live even after they tried to drag him out of town and feed him to the zombies. He does punish them... by making them cut up corpses to feed his zombies. This goes almost completely against his characterization in the rest of the book as well as the comic and later allows Lilly to kill him later on.
• Broken Base: Early on, many fans were upset over this book retconning away the backstory of Lilly from the Telltale Game. Some people already proclaimed it non-canon, even though it has been explained that Lilly Caul and Lilly from Telltale Games are completely different characters. This became even more divisive with the Word of God itself having confirmed the novels non-canon.
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Lilly berates herself for her 'cowardice' but doesn't seem aware she's judgmental, haughty, and just plain mean to everyone around her.
