YMMV / The Simpsons S12 E5 "Homer vs. Dignity"

Go To

  • Designated Hero: Homer is presented heroically for not taking Mr. Burns' money to throw fish guts on orphan children. The problem with this is that he still willingly allowed Burns to take over the float anyway which isn’t much better.
  • Esoteric Happy Ending: Homer quits being Mr. Burns' prank monkey and bails out of the old man's latest scheme, proving his dignity is not for sale. Except the entire reason he went about degrading himself so much in the first place was because of the family's dire financial situation, and there's no sign that things will be getting better for them now that he won't be getting the extra income. And it sure won't stop Burns from continuing to pull pranks on the rest of Springfield that only he (ever the horribly evil old man) finds funny.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: The episode is hated by many for sinking to levels of Vulgar Humor the show has never sunk to before. The panda rape scene crosses the line with sickening abandon; rarely does a two-minute scene turn an otherwise unremarkable episode into one of the most hated in the show's history and a regular on many online "Worst Simpsons Episode" lists.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Malibu Stacy: the Musical is funnier now that there's a hit movie based on Barbie. There have even been whispers of a musical adaptation.
  • Signature Scene: Homer being raped by a panda quickly became the episode's most infamous scene. Several reviewers at the time highlighted it as a prime example of the show's Seasonal Rot.
