YMMV / The Simpsons S 11 E 19 Kill The Alligator And Run

Go To

  • Alternative Joke Interpretation:
    • Homer telling Marge that he saw fifteen boobs. Did he see fifteen pairs of boobs? Did seven girls show both their boobs with an eighth showing only one? Was Homer drunk and not to be taken seriously?
    • Homer's reason for his reluctance to travel to Florida is because he sees it as "America's wang". Does he think the state looks phallic, or is it a reference to how a lot of bizarre news comes from Florida?
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Even detractors will admit to liking Velma aka the "I like that" Lady.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: A good group of fans consider this episode (or at the very least the part after Spring Break) non-canon.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: When Homer is questioning Lenny and Carl over who their favorite Backstreet Boy is, the latter mentions Nick citing how good he is to his mother. Years later, Nick and his mother Jane are very much estranged due to her controlling Stage Mom tendencies.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Marge says "This family has hit a new low. We're on the run from the law, totally lost, no car, no money, no clean clothes... and it's all your fault.", which also sums up their predicament in The Simpsons Movie.
  • Memetic Mutation: For whatever reason, the scene of Homer with the ruthless warden (in particular the shot of Homer being reflected in the warden's mirrored glasses) became a meme template in Latin America, usually accompained with one of the phrases the warden says in the dub, Usted no aprende, verdad? ("You don't learn, do you?")
  • Unintentional Period Piece:
    • This episode aired in April of 2000; the Montana Militia largely disbanded around this time, after reaching its peak membership during the previous year.
    • The episode also features the party-hard youth culture of the 90s and 2000s at its peak, with Kid Rock appearing at an MTV show broadcast from the beach (featuring a joke about the age of the channel's presenters). Kid Rock's hype man Joe C. also appears alongside him in this episode, seven months before he died from complications related to dwarfism.
    • Film and theater critic Vincent Canby also mentioned, he would die only six months after the episode aired.
  • Writer Cop Out: Captain Jack being alive all along makes many viewers feel that this is in play. According to Word of God, there was originally a scene where the unconscious Captain Jack had a wake at the capitol building, which would have at least explained how he got to the party at the end.
