  • Fanon Discontinuity: Gennaro being Killed Offscreen just for continuity with the film version can inspire this.
  • Funny Moments:
    • Kelly and Arby watching the Rexes leave the trailer... only to put the baby in a tree, make sure it knows to stay put, THEN going back to destroy the trailers. The visual of a huge Rex putting its baby high in a tree and then almost scolding it to stay put because mommy and daddy need to take care of some business gets a quick laugh. The humor quickly ends when the rexes turn around and charge the trailer to begin their literal Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
    • A bit of Black Comedy happens during the gruesome moment of Howard King being torn apart by the Raptors, with one of them casually eating King's candybar and looking as if it's enjoying it.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Dodgson crossed it before the book even started by testing a highly experimental vaccine on South American farmers without their permission or even knowledge as detailed in the first novel. This is even lampshaded In-Universe — the vaccine screw-up is mentioned as one of the greatest screw-ups Dodgson has ever done for Biosyn (because they didn't approve him testing the vaccine the way he did and had to waste a whole lot of cash and political power to keep the whole mess under wraps because he went behind their back) and the expedition to Sorna is his last chance to fend off a pink slip.
  • Paranoia Fuel: The carnotaurs. Dinosaurs with nearly perfect camouflage who live in the area of the gas station waiting to ambush prey. The human characters pass by their territory several times without realizing the predators are there, and it takes a lucky switching on of the lights for Thorne to realize that they are right in front of him. Even Velociraptors and Tyrannosaurs won't go into carnotaur territory at night.
  • The Woobie: Howard King. A rather non-malicious man who got roped into many of Lewis Dodgson's less than moral ventures, suffered a downward career spiral through the failure of a project that was implied to not be his fault, gained new success with Biosyn thanks to Dodgson at the expense of his family life, and is openly horrified when Dodgson pushes Sarah overboard. He is brought to fearful sobbing when their jeep gets chased by a T. rex, and his death by raptor is the most gruesome and heartrending in the whole book.
