• Angst? What Angst?: Grant, Barbra, and Steve all tend to have limited reactions to the events. Especially Grant and Barbra- after being buzzed by UFOs, they flee for the house, then decide that they really aren't going to worry about it and go to bed.
• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: An odd case where it's anyone's guess which bits are these versus actually being important, with the likes of a glowing and shrinking pyramid, a tiny humanoid alien, much larger monstrous aliens, and lights shooting across the sky never quite connecting with each other. Lampshaded and parodied in the MST3K episode via the song "Concepts".
• Padding: Where to begin... long scene of driving to the airport, long scene watching a car back in a half circle, long scene looking at the bathroom door while a character is in there peeing, long scene of a car just driving away and over the horizon... and that's not the half of it. The movie could cut twenty minutes without affecting the plot (such as it is).
