• Fanon Discontinuity: The reveal that Starfleet has a regulation prohibiting its personnel from Boldly Coming without permission from the captain and the CMO has not gone over well with plenty of fans.
• Narm: Many viewers have trouble taking Harry's situation seriously, partly due to his established Butt-Monkey status, and partly due to the Boldly Coming trope established by certain other Starfleet officers.
• Visual Effects of Awesome: The episode's opening shot was the most complex effects job the franchise had done to that point. Especially impressive is how hard it is to tell when it switches from a CGI image to the real set.
