Krab Borg:
- Franchise Original Sin: This was an early example of SpongeBob causing a huge mess and Squidward taking the blame. While it was acceptable this time (partially because Squidward was at fault too and that Mr. Krabs would probably go after SpongeBob once he finds him), later episodes would reuse it in sadistic ways that weren't funny.
- Fridge Brilliance:
- Why does Mr. Krabs not laugh at Squidward's pirate movie joke? Because he already talks like a pirate.
- Why does Spongebob call the navy instead of the army? Because the navy protects the sea!
- Genius Bonus: While it sounds like a nonsensical bit of Toilet Humor at first, the sense that SpongeBob uses "poop", as in "information", is historically accurate.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: In 2023, Sally Dark Rides announced a SpongeBob ride notably featuring an animatronic Mr. Krabs. This time, Mr. Krabs really is a robot!
- Memetic Mutation: The scene of Mr. Krabs talking to the disc jockey about how "Electric Zoo" goes ("The one that goes 'beep boo-boo-bop boo-boo-beep!'" "No, man, you're thinking of 'beep boo-boo-bop boo-boo-bop'.") has become a popular source for edits, usually making the two of them sing different songs like "Africa" or the Wii Shop Channel theme.
- So Bad, It's Good: Admit it, Squidward's pirate movie joke probably got at least a snicker from you.
- Strawman Has a Point: Given that Mr. Krabs had actually been replaced by a robot double at one point, SpongeBob might be more Properly Paranoid than the episode would have the viewer believe. Granted, SpongeBob didn't bring up that event and only believed Mr. Krabs was a robot because he was scared from a movie.
- The Woobie: Mr. Krabs. All because he felt like listening to techno music and SpongeBob watched a scary movie, his loyal employees scare away his customers, restrain and physically abuse him, and destroy, at minimum, $120.12 worth of his appliances, one of them actually being a gift. Who knows what would've happened had they destroyed his cash register?
- Woolseyism: Squidward's pirate movie joke was changed in the German dub to make fun of Chinese pronunciation.
Rock-A-Bye Bivalve:
- Alternative Character Interpretation: While Junior needed to be changed, what probably made him upset the most was realizing he was fed an entirely innocent worm and was grieving for what he did. This explains why he cried immediately after ingesting him. Which makes this scene more depressing than comedic. It could also have been because two strangers were holding him, so he might have been scared.
- Aluminum Christmas Trees: Yes, scallops really can pull off free-swimming.
- Crosses the Line Twice:
- Patrick's first response to finding out that the chirping is coming from a baby scallop? Step on it. Would be rather tasteless if SpongeBob didn't immediately snap him back to his senses.
- Junior's diapers clogging up the trash and having to be stored in the fridge? Pretty nauseating. The diapers being stored in the couch, the pineapple walls, and even on top of Squidward's house? Hilarious!
- Fan Nickname: Fans usually dub this episode as "The Gay Couple Episode" because it involved SpongeBob and Patrick roleplaying as a couple (granted, SpongeBob pretended to be a woman, but the episode still involved two male characters doing couple-y things).
- Fridge Brilliance: Besides the Bait-and-Switch joke, why did Patrick and SpongeBob have their sleeping situation be SpongeBob sleeping on one set of mattresses, and Patrick sleeping on another set that was under the top one, so that them going to bed meant Patrick was squashed underneath SpongeBob's part of the bed? Because Patrick is used to sleeping underneath his rock every night, so it's likely they did that arrangement to make Patrick feel more at home while he lived in SpongeBob's pineapple.
- Memetic Mutation: Possibly the most amount of memes to be born from a single SpongeBob episode.
- If a pun is featured in a video that uses a lot of post-edits, expect to see Gary on drums.
- "I bring you greetings from Apple World," and by extension, "We will bury you!"Explanation
- "Look at the funny face!"Explanation
- "Just call me daddy!"Explanation
- "That guy got hit in the head with a coconut!"Explanation
- "Uhh?!" "...Uh." "Uhhh..."Explanation
- The sequence of SpongeBob showing Patrick just how many diapers the scallop goes through is frequently used as a stand-in for when a strawman is Instantly Proven Wrong.
- "6 o'clock!" "6 o'clock!" "12 o'clock, midnight."Explanation
- "OVERTIME!?!?!?"Explanation
- Nightmare Fuel: The scene with the talking worm is meant to be Played for Laughs but the way it struggles and especially how panicked the poor thing sounds as it's fed to the scallop makes it rather disturbing. Especially because of how friendly it seemed when it introduced itself.Worm: Hello, sea creatures! I bring you greetings from Apple World! […] WAIT! WE WILL BURY YOU!
- Realism-Induced Horror: Junior about to fall from SpongeBob's window is enough to frighten any parent.
- Squick: Anything involving the scallop's diapers. In fact, one may find themselves slightly sickened by a literal mountain of them piling up outside SpongeBob's house. And if you wanna turn the grossout factor even higher, that pile is where Squidward's house normally is!
- Tear Dryer: Junior flying after SpongeBob and Patrick worry that he fell to his death.
